Sleeping in Seattle

Image

Image
I talked to my mom about three hours before we left for the airport and we decided to postpone the trip until I had someone to look after the boys. I was so stressed about the icy roads, 2 hour waits for taxis and subjecting to boys to insanely long waits at the airport, that I realized it was making me sick. As sad as I am about not spending Christmas with my family, I know I did the right thing. Why put the kitties through the rigours of travel if it's not necessary. I will try my best to get to Texas by New Years and hopefully can find a truly reliable person to take care of Bertie and Elvis. I can't tell you how much better I feel, and judging from the boys reaction, they do too. Jeeze, did they look dapper in their little harnesses. They look naked without them now.

Preparing for the big day!

Image Might be the last post for the week. The kits have been in their harnesses all day, plane leaves at midnight. I don't think any of us know what we're in for.

Creative Differences

Image Elvis is on strike until a certain blog writer embraces his creative input and publicly acknowledges that he is, indeed, more than just a pretty face.

What a night!

Image Worst snow storm in 30 years here in Seattle.

Image
Did I mention that I was already nervous about flying with the boys? Really didn't need the added stress of icy roads on the way to the airport. Blech.

Snow Day pt.2

Image
Albert proves that doing nothing all day really is exhausting.

Image Cute, but exhausting.

Image "No pictures please."

Snow Day!

Image Snow covered everything last night while we slept.

Image Elvis has taken up his position on the window sill. Every now and again I hear his paws tapping on the glass, snowflake catching.

Image Albert and I, the smart ones, are cuddled up in bed watching the snow fall under layers and layers of sheets and blankets. The perfect beginning to a perfectly snowy day.

Levels of Ferocity, on a scale of 1-3

ImageTotal 3. Way to work the lighting.

ImageUm.. maybe a 1.5. He is emoting well with the eyes, but I don't think that's his best angle.

ImageOk. Bathing? Really? That's not ferocious at all. -1. Come on Elvis, what would Tyra say.

Learning to be Awesome

Image Albert doesn't quite understand how to get the water into his mouth without first getting it in his eye, fur, ear, etc.

Image
Elvis, on the other hand, masters his water faucet technique early on. Quite the furry protege.

Some Hip Action

ImageAlbert falls asleep to the evening news. On me. I don't mind.
P.S. His eye is 100% better.

Christmas Carl (a.k.a. the only cat in this house who will let me dress him up)

ImageSo, anticipating future posts and Christmas cards for the family, I got this fantastic set of holiday gear for the kits to wear. I quickly realized that felt antlers and a jingle bell collar were a very bad idea for this excitable duo.

Image Elvis got the antlers and started fussing before I could even set him down. Once on the ground he tipped over and played possum, effectively ending any holiday photo ops I had in mind.

ImageAlbert was fortunate enough to get a cute little jingle bell collar. I won't fool myself into thinking he actually liked it, but he certainly didn't mind it. He wore it around the kitchen until Elvis, assuming his brother was the biggest jingling cat toy ever, attacked him from behind and had the collar off in record time.

Oh well. Here is a picture of what could have been.

Mystery Days

ImageI'm assuming when I leave for work the festive colored carpet in the living room comes to life and takes the boys on magical rides around the apartment. How else could it end up sitting in a lumpy pile next to the dishwasher when I return home?

Hunk-a Hunk-a Burning Love

Image
Elvis has officially taken over the big brown leather chair in the living room. It's interesting because he sits in the same place Belou used to sit and I think that's kind of nice. The obvious difference is that he sprawls out like a little boy and she was always curled up very lady-like.

He certainly is a flexible little guy

Kitty Basics 101

ImageAlbert somehow managed to jump onto the highest counter top in the house on Sunday and stick his face right into a candle. I was in the process of moving the candle to a higher shelf when it happened so it kind of seemed like really bad timing on both of our parts. He didn't cry out and I think was more concerned by the stink coming from the few whiskers that got singed. I wiped down his face with a wet rag and checked his eye and everything looked ok. He was back to chasing Elvis around the house as soon as I set him down. The next day the squinting started. We had another vet appointment that afternoon so I had the vet check him out. Thankfully the vet said all was well and he just had a minor boo-boo at the corner of his eye and that it would heal in no time. He then stuck two booster shots in his butt and sent us home. So, today, little Albert is squinting like a pirate and on top of that, has an upset tummy from the vaccinations. Today is not his day, poor little boy.
Lesson Learned: NO CANDLES, what was I thinking
On top of that, I feel like the kits are just a little too young to travel all the way to Texas for Christmas. They are too big to both be in the carrier and unless I want to sedate them, which I don't, they are constantly crying and trying to gnaw their way out. So, if anyone is in the Seattle area and knows of a really safe boarding place or cat sitter who could come by a couple of times a day, I'm all ears.
P.S. Both kids are healthy says the vet and Elvis officially reached the 5 lb. mark and Albert is about half a pound away. Such big little guys.

Sweet Dreams...

Image Maybe it's the angle, but Elvis reminds me of Tigger in this picture.

ImageI bet Albert is dreaming of his first Christmas and all of the toys he gets to attack unwrap.

Such happy boys.

Matchy-matchy

ImageElvis matches the bed sheets and Albert's eyes match the carpet. How lucky to get two cats who go with everything.
