Gerado's Birthday!

Image
It's Friday the 13th... 39 years ago... on a Friday and a Full Moon (!)... Gerardo was born.
Image
Gerardo insists Friday the 13th is a good-luck day for him. Let's see how it went: 1) The food and the company at Goose's Acre were great. 2) He came out of there with a present from Justin and Kelly. 3) We then went to watch 2012, but we all gave this movie a solid F.
Image
4) Live Rock music at Baker's St. Irish Pub was so good we came back home at 2:15 AM. 5) We fell asleep around 3:30 AM...
Image
That's four out of five... good enough to get you into the Hall of Fame, if you were a baseball player!! We continued celebrating his birthday on Saturday - eating out and then playing games at a nearby park. Love you, Babe!!

Ingrid's Birthday With a Taste of Fiambre!!

Image
How many years I've been around is not the question...
Image
...but rather what kind of live I've been allowed to live...
Image
Always blessed with good friends...
Image
...often surrounded by great people...
Image
...never alone when I have something to share...
Image
...whether it is the joy of a birthday celebration...
Image
...or a traditional and exotic dish from Guatemala (Fiambre)...

To all of you, who stopped by to share this special day with me, who called me on this day, or who thought about me on my birthday: Thank you for your friendship and love. You are a blessing in my life!

Halloween 2009

Image
A night, in which Lady Vampires...
Image
...characters with magical powers... and disco stars come to live...
Image
when "Avada Kadavra" is heard too many times...

Image
...and fairies from another sphere make an appearance...
Image
Never short of creativity... never short of style... always ready to make a statement...
Image
Never afraid to look death in the eye...
...or so they say... :-)

Halloween Party!

Image
Fun Halloween party again this year courtesy of Justin and Kelly Vowles. This year the theme was "Mascarade," which worked well for us as we had bought two masks as souvenirs in 2008.
Image
Sofia took a picture of us before we left home.
Image
As usual, the party was a lot of fun. This year, we got to enjoy the fine cousine from all the guests. Everybody brought appetizers and desserts.
Image
I brought "Lady Fingers," "Bread Bones with Dip," and a "Cerebrum." Creepy looking food, but gorgeous to the taste. :-)

Image
My "Lady Fingers" won an award for the most original dessert!
Image
Thank you Kelly and Justin for another memorable evening - you guys are awesome!!

Pumpkin Carving 2009

Image
Pumpkin carving is a tradition we adopted from Kelly Vowles on the year we moved to The Woodlands. We have followed this tradition every year since then.
Image
The girls are becoming very proficient in this art. Their designs this year were more fancy than a year ago. I wonder what next year's will look like.

Well done!

U2 Live in Houston

Image
Image
Image
Uno... dos... tres... catorce!!! Bono and his friends came to our hometown and showed us and 75,000 others a great time. The concert took place on October 19 at Reliant Stadium. Muse opened the show, and U2 followed with more than two hours of great music.

Image
Our friends Miguel Angel Avendano (Lagar) and his wife Veronica Rossiter (Vero) came from Guatemala and stayed with us for a week. We enjoyed their company every day of their stay, and we even got to catch up with other friends from Guatemala City.
Image
On the day of the show, we went to pick up Gerardo from work in Downtown Houston. We visited the underground side of the city, and had lunch there. Later on we moved to the Galleria for some shopping, and we had dessert at the Luxor.
Image
In what can be described only as Guatemala-style driving, Gerardo managed to get us to Reliant Stadium on time and in one piece. We found out Wendy was going to the concert too, and we met for a few minutes outside of the stadium. .
Image
None of us had heard about Muse before, but we surely enjoyed their performance. U2 started their show at around 9:00 P.M. They began by playing a few songs from their latest album "No Line on the Horizon."
Image
Then, they moved back to the 90's Achtung Baby... "it's alright... it's alright, alright... she moves in mysterious ways!" ... "One Love, one live... [te traigo pasta] into the night..." :-)
Image
We then heard some of "All That You Can't Leave Behind..." Elevation, Stuck in a Moment, Beautiful Day...
Image
...moving on to The Unforgettable Fire... With or Wihout You... Sunday Bloody Sunday... but... I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For...
Image
Changing the tempo, they proceeded to Vertigo and City of Blinding Lights... We must have driven the people behind us absolutely nuts with our dancing and jumping...
Image
... more of "No Line in the Horizon"... "you know I'm going crazy if I don't go crazy tonight"... in techno version... sounded great...
Image
They left the stage and performed two or three encores... it was crazy. One of the last songs played was "Where the Streets Have No Name"... we didn't know how they could come back on stage after that...
Image
...but they kept coming back... it seemed like nobody wanted to go back home that night... until they played "Moment of Surrender" ... I think... because either the band or the fans would give up at some point... but U2 had the last word...
Image
They finally came off the stage once and for all. Bono tripped as he was going down the stairs... fortunately for him, his skills to keep his balance are much greater than his dancing skills... he managed to stay up, 'Alive and Kicking.' An unforgettable night, a show to remember. Lagar and Vero: We loved going to the concert with you. Kelly - we wish you had been there too.
