This journal contains posts about books, plays, movies, board games, travel, and occasionally less exciting aspects of my life. I post almost all material under lock, but I give out access freely. Comment (or private message, if you prefer) if you'd like to be added.
Dear Yuletide author,
Thanks for writing for me! I am excited to see what you come up with for our mutual fandom.
What I like: I like stories where women and relationships between women are a significant focus. I like seeing characters dumped into uncomfortable/unfamiliar situations and struggling to cope (and at least partially succeeding). Culture shock and cultural misunderstandings are particularly interesting. I like seeing non-obvious sources of power and strength explored. I like stories with ambiguity and shades of grey, particularly around motivations and feelings towards others. I like watching characters work through their own expectations to form unconventional relationships that may not be what they thought they wanted. I like stories with a strong sense of setting (both place and time). I like watching consequences unfold and seeing how characters handle aftermaths. I like bittersweet endings that pay attention to the cost of victory (or the silver lining of defeat). I generally enjoy "what if canon went differently" AUs, including "what if [mundane canon] but with [magical/science fictional element]," but I'm not interested in "what if [magical/science fictional canon] but [mundane setting]" AUs (e.g. coffeeshop AU, high school AU, etc.). I love crossovers and fusions.
If you are writing a pairing story, I will be happy with whatever level of sexual or kink content you feel comfortable including (or not including), except for explicitly noted exceptions below. I am fine with break-up fic or fic in which relationships generally do not go smoothly, including stories about non-monogamy and infidelity. But I also love gen.
My general DNWs are rape or rape recovery, alcoholism or alcoholism recovery (people drinking alcohol is fine, I just don't want a fic focused on alcoholism as a medical/psychological condition), organ transplants, setting-change AUs, sex involving characters under 14, and student/teacher pairings
I opt-in for character death, violence and gore, and unhappy endings. This doesn't mean I'm specifically requesting only dark stories, just encouraging you to write whatever content suits the story you want to tell; if it's not in my DNW list, it's fine, you don't need to be concerned it will upset me.
My account accepts treats. If you're looking for a fandom to pick up quickly, Straume | Flow is a single movie less than an hour and a half long; Clouds End is a stand-alone novel; and while Servants of the Empire is four novels they are short middle-grade novels and combined probably contain fewer words than Clouds End. (Servants of the Empire is also all available on Kindle Unlimited.)
( Clouds End - Sean Stewart (Jo, Brook) )
( Prisoners of Peace - Erin Bow (Li Da-Xia) )
( Straume | Flow (Movie 2024) (Worldbuilding) )
( Star Wars Rebels: Servants of the Empire - Jason Fry (Zare Leonis, Merei Spanjaf, Dhara Leonis) )

Due to various concerns with abandoned DW accounts being hacked (plus a general impulse to tidiness), I've just gone through and unfriended pretty much everyone who had neither posted nor commented in the previous year. If you were in fact lurking along and would like to be reinstated (or if I made an error), let me know.

Today's fortune cookie: "Pick another fortune cookie."
The replacement cookie, provided after I plead my case with the waitress at some length: "The squeaky wheel gets the grease."
Aren't these things supposed to tell me about the future, not the past?
