Winter Wonderland & Pre-School Program

Image
Image
The snow has finally arrived! The boys are so excited. Logan loves to help Adam shovel the walks, and Nathan would giggle every time he bent down to pick up some snow! It was so fun to watch. And me...well...I love the look and feel of the stuff, but I usually try to stay out of any and all automobiles during the winter! No...seriously....I absolutely hate driving in the stuff. Just the other day we were headed to Salt Lake to pick up some stuff for Adam and it started snowing. Yes...I made him turn the car around and takes us home! When we're driving on snowy or icy roads Adam always tells me to just lay my head back and close my eyes. But that just makes it worse...then I won't see it coming...you know...the part where we start sliding, and of course we're on an overpass so we slide and break through the guard rail, and plunge to our deaths below!! Ok..so that's a little bit overkill, but I think you get my point! I HATE DRIVING IN SNOW!

Logan had a cute pre-school program yesterday. It was perfect...on 30 minutes long! He did awesome on his part; "Be sure to stake up those building blocks!"
They sang 15+ short cute christmas songs. It was great!

Political Christmas Greeting

After my last post I thought I'd post something more "Lighthearted." My brother sent this to me and I thought it was great!

To All My Democrat Friends: ;)

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my
best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially
responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral
celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within
the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of
your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with
respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or
traditions of others, or their choice not to practice
religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a
fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically
uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally
accepted calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for
the calendars of choice of other cultures whose
contributions to society have helped make America great. Not
to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other
country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere.
Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed,
color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual
preference of the wishee.

To My Republican Friends:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Disgusted!

Adam and I were disgusted by the following Deseret News article about our home town. We have responded respectfully to the Mayor, and hope others will do the same. I am sick and tired of people not standing up for the true "Reason for the Season." CHRISTmas celebrates the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. It is not to have super sales, make chocolates, hang up lights, and have parties. If we can't display a nativity depicting the birth of the Savior, then why do we have CHRISTmas on our calendar? Why do we celebrate it as a society? Ok...so there's too much ranting going on here...I will stop now....I think you can all get my drift!

Salina, Richfield decline to display nativity

Separation of church, state among reasons

By Ethan Thomas

Deseret News
Published: Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 12:56 a.m. MST

A group of residents is upset after two central Utah cities denied their recent requests to donate and display nativity scenes on city property.

Members of the group recently attended city council meetings in Salina and Richfield to petition the cities to accept the donation and put up the nativity scenes, which would be done as part of an Eagle Scout project. But in both cases, there appears to be no room at the inn.

"We have presented this to the cities and told them not to be afraid to display them, so we are disappointed that they have not accepted," said Salina resident Elaine Bonavita, who is the chairman of the Right to Vote Committee which has been actively pushing for the nativity scenes to be displayed.

Both city councils unanimously chose not to put up the nativity scenes for various reasons, but mostly based on advice from a city attorney.

Salina allowed a small nativity scene to be displayed by residents at the city building last year, but this year they don't think it can be done.

"Our decorations are already set up at our building, and we decided this year was not the time to do it since we really have no room for it under the circumstances," Salina Mayor Jim Reynolds said. "So we went ahead and said no for that reason and for the fact that our attorney advised against putting one up, and nobody questioned that."

But members of the Right to Vote Committee say they aren't buying the small amount of space argument. To them it has more to do with the backbones of the city leaders.

"It's a lack of Christian courage," Bonavita said. "Other towns have them up in public places. Why can't Richfield and Salina? It is a lack of Christian courage."

In the petition given to the cities, the group lists Lynch v. Donnelly, a U.S. Supreme Court case, which they feel shows the constitutionality of publicly sponsored Christmas displays. They also list a national public interest firm which they claim is willing to represent any city pro bono if called upon to help.

Richfield Mayor Brad Ramsay said his city hasn't allowed nativity scenes in the past, and the city respects the legal advice of its attorney.

"We want to stay out of mixing church and state and always felt like a nativity scene is a personal expression of Christmas and not one the city wants to impose on anyone," he said.

Ramsay also said that there are several nice nativity scenes throughout the city at private residences or businesses.

Bonavita said the nativity committee plans to seek out other cities in hopes of putting the nativity scenes on display.

"Christmas has been important to me all my life," Bonavita said. "The world has commercialized it, so every year I try to do something special for Jesus Christ. This is a constitutional right we have."

One Business is Never Enough!

Ok..so you all know that Adam has a certain Entrepreneurial spirit about him. Alas, we have started yet another business. It is with an amazing company called Primerica. Adam is a financial needs guy now. What they do is basically sit down with families and help them get properly insured, reduce debt, invest, etc. Adam LOVES it! He is really good at it too! You can check out their website at www.Primerica.com. If anyone is in need of life insurance, mutual funds, etc....let us know!
Adam is still doing Home Inspections also!

Now That's What I Call Bed Head!

Image
Nathan's hair seems to have a mind of it's own...he gets it from his mom!
When he woke up from his nap the other day...this was the result! I am terrible and laughed about it for nearly 20 minutes! He was not happy to get his picture taken!

Image
On a happier note...he usually loves getting his picture taken. I had to take this one to show his "boo boo" on his head. He loved the Diego bandaid. He fell on the sidewalk while Adam and I were stringing Christmas lights. Then yesterday before church I took the bandaid off. Well...walking into church he fell and carpet burned the scab. Ya..started bleeding right before sacrament meeting. Got blood on Logan's brand new white shirt!

Image
Saturday we decided last minute to take the boys up to see Temple Square. We rode Trax part way, and they liked seeing all the lights. We parked at a scary place to board the train. If you take away the scary drunk guy, Logan going potty in the parking lot, and the begillions of people, it was quite a fun evening. Needless to say this was the best picture I got of the night. There were so many people it was hard to stop to take a picture. Trax was so crowded we couldn't even move. And then there's the story of the stroller getting stuck while trying to get it out the door. How come they make you think you're either going to get smashed in the door, or the train is going to start moving before you are all the way out!:

We ended the evening with dinner....and this....ahhhh....blisssss!

A Thankful Thanksgiving!

We had a great thanksgiving this year at Great-Grandma Parkers! It was nice to have my family up here and I got to hang out lots with my sisters and mom. We went shopping, and even caught the Twilight movie. We also had a great FHE with the boys using some of Logan's props he made at school!

I Love Love Love this time of year!! Especially since I have all of my shopping done already!

Leafy Frolic!

Today was a beautiful day, so we just had to go outside to play. We spent some time at the park, and finished off with some leaf play in our own front yard. We have one small tree in our yard that produces quite a few leaves!

This is how Nathan finished off the day! This NEVER happens. He is resisting naps, but I guess he just couldn't make it today....this was at 4:30 p.m.!!!

No Meningitis!

Just a little health update. Adam does not have meningitis...just a bad virus. He is feeling much better but is now battling a cold. Hopefully another week and he'll be back in tip top shape.

Halloween & Hospital Horrors!

Image

Our fun-filled halloween week started off with our Primary Party on Monday night. There were lots of fun games and sheer pandemonium for the kids! It was great! This is Logan and Nathan with their friends Jace & Gracie!

Image
Image

We finished off the evening with pizza & Pumpkin carving. Actually..the boys got bored after about 2 minutes and mom finished the pumpkin!

Monday night Adam woke up with an excruciating headache. Long story short...he threw up for a couple days...passed out on Thursday...I called 911....paramedics took him to the hospital...he had a CT and Spinal Tap....no Spinal Meningitis....has a small cycst on his brain....not a big concern for now....got fluids in him....got pain killers....sent back home. He has been in bed for over a week now. As long as he keeps pain killers his head is ok. He has not thrown up since Saturday. We have self-diagnosed him with Viral Meningitis, but we are heading to the Dr. this afternoon to have him checked out. Oh ya...and there's the small little matter about the Cyst on his brain...NOT A BIG DEAL? Are you kidding me Dr.? Oh ya...and I forgot the Dr. who saw him on Wednesday in the InstaCare and said.."sounds like a migraine." A Migraine that lasts 8 days...seriously?!

Adam missed all the Halloween fun. I thought about taking his picture, but decided against it. I actually didn't take any pictures of the kids trick-or-treating, but luckily got some on Monday before the Primary party. They had a blast going door to door and asking for candy. I think Nathan would do that every day if he could!

Handy Manny & "Red Dragon"

We also had fun going to grandma & grandpa's Condo for some pizza!

Image
Mommy dressed up as a black kitty! I know...I make the best costumes! Logan was the spanish carpenter "Handy Manny" from the Disney Chanel!

The cutest little dragon I've ever seen!

We love Halloween!

Image
This is how we ended the evening! Logan was a trooper and fell asleep watching cartoons. This never happens!

It has been a stressful and strenuous week for us all. Nathan loved seeing the fire truck and ambulance that visited the house...Logan didn't like seeing dad being carried out on a gurney...and mom has played nurse all week. We are looking forward to daddy feeling better and things getting back to normal. The ward has taken good care of us and has brought us dinner. We are so thankful for everyone's love and support!

Puzzle Perfection!!

Image
Image

Picture #1: Logan asks every day if we can build a snowman. So...whats the next best thing besides real snow?....cotton balls of course! What a masterpiece!

Picture #2 Ok...so I have not put together a "real" puzzle in quite some time. But, when Logan drug this one out of the closet I didn't have the heart to tell him "no." (he is a puzzle fanatic!!!) I think Adam and I got this from my parents for Christmas several years ago, and it had never been opened. So...what did we do for the next 2 days? Yep...worked on this puzzle. We finished it Sunday morning before church, and I just had to take a picture of it!!

Slides & Fruit Loops!

We had our first snow storm last week! I can't believe summer is officially over. We have enjoyed playing outside so much in the nice fall weather, but I'm afraid it won't last very much longer. I had to take some pictures of the boys playing outside with one of Logan's cute friends Jace. They have a ball playing together, and Nathan loves tagging right along with them. We also had fun making fruit loop necklaces. I'm afraid I will have to come up with a lot more entertaining winter activities to do in-doors.

I actually love this time of year. We run the heater in the morning, and the ac in the late afternoon...it's perfect. I love the thought of snuggling up in blankets while it's snowing outside. However...I go nuts when I have to drive in the snow or on icy roads....hate it! I have also made several last runs to the produce stand for tomatoes and peaches...I have loved having fresh produce!

Logan came home the other day from Pre-School and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to me! I was pleasantly surprised that they taught that to him....I guess since it's a private school! I'll stay off my soap box of what I think of the Public Education System....for now.

Just another day at the park!

We have been spending a lot of time at the park lately...the boys enjoy it more now that it's not so hot. Nathan has even learned how to climb up and down the slides "all by myself." He is quite proud! We enjoy having the park right across the street! We are all enjoying the cooler weather. Soon we will be shopping for snow pants and winter boots!

Garbledeegoop!

Not sure why, but when I uploaded my photos they showed up as a bunch of weird text...so I couldn't put captions under them. Anyway...this past weekend we had two family reunions. One at Cherry Hill, and the other in Richfield. Thank goodness they were on different days! It was a long 6 1/2 hours spent driving in one weekend, but we had so much fun. The boys loved the water slides at Cherry Hill...and of course all the cookies! We had a dutch-oven cook-off in Richfield for the Hendrickson reunion. They boys loved the blow up slide and bounce house! Thanks family for helping us make some great memories with our kids!

First Day of School

Image
Logan's first day of Pre-School was today! We went to a open-house on Monday to meet his teacher. He was nervous at first but then warmed right up. He is in room #2 with Mrs. Flack as his teacher. She seems great. He has his own cubbie hole and his very own book back. He had a great day! (I couldn't get him to tell me anything about it though!)
Image
This is Logan in front of his school. It is called Learning Dynamics.
It has several classrooms inside. He goes MWF for 2 hr 15 min. I am so excited for him! He really enjoyed pre-school last year at the neighbors house, and I think he will really have fun this year too!

Of course Nathan wanted to stay with him, and just kind of moped around the house while he was gone. I'm not sure how to entertain just one child...I can't remember. Last year Nathan always napped while Logan was at school. Now I'm lucky if I can get him to take a nap at all!

Speed Grocer in the Making!

Ok...so I don't normally post video...frankly because I think it's just annoying. But I could not resist this one. Logan saw an episode of Curious George where Curious George is in some kind of "grocery bagging" competition. He has to figure out how to stack all the groceries in a bag and make all the different shapes and sizes fit together. So....naturally....this has been our life for the past few weeks. Logan continues to bag his play food several times each day. He even makes me say "on your mark...get set....go." And while he's bagging he says to himself, "you can do it Logan...you can do it!" He also has Adam and I try it to see how fast we can do it too. And lately...we have gotten a grocery cart and a cash register for him to mimic with.

Dancin' in the Rain

My most favorite part of summer is the rainstorms. I like them because they are warm, and you can play in the water with bare feet and not freeze to death. The boys also like it too. We have an amazing "river" that flows through our gutter every time it rains. They love it! We had a good rain strom earlier this week and we had to take advantage of it!

Nathan's favorite part of being outside is of course all the amazing rocks! He treats each one as a prized posession!
