Punjab is a state in the northern part of India. The word Punjab is a combination of the Persian words “panj” (five) and “āb” (waters), thus PanjĀb means five rivers and roughly means "the land of five rivers", referring to the five rivers which go through it. The five rivers are the Beas, Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jehlum (Jhelum).
