Life's Journeys According to Mister Rogers: Things to Remember Along the Way Kindle Edition
For all the roads we choose to travel, and even those we don't, Fred Rogers has an observation, a story, some insights to share. Whether you're facing graduation, a new job, a new baby, marriage, any change in your life--expected or not--the wisdom that Mister Rogers offers can contribute mightily to the grace with which you handle the change.
With sections titled Who You Are Right Now, Loving and Being Loved, and Guided Drift, Fred addresses the scope of human transitions. It all comes down to knowing we're valuable, and that we're worthy of that value. As Fred would say, "You don't have to be anything more than who you are right now."
In her foreword, Joanne Rogers shares the Fred she knew. With stories from their life together, the joys as well as the struggles, Joanne shows how Fred looked at life as a journey--with the ups and downs and in-betweens.

About the author

Fred Rogers: March 20, 1928 - February 27, 2003
Producer, magician, writer, puppeteer, minister, husband, father, Fred Rogers started out in children's television thirty years ago. The direction he trailblazed was the "creation of television programming that spoke, with respect, to the concerns of early childhood, not as adults see it but as children feel it." He has received virtually every major award in the television industry for work in his field, and dozens of others from special-interest groups. Fred Rogers lived in Pennsylvania.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2025Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI purchased this for my grandson’s high school graduation gift. He will be getting a lot of cash and “normal “ gifts, but this will be perfect from grandma. Mr.R is full of wisdom for all of us regardless of age. It’s a great gift idea.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2024Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI have a few of the Mister Rodgers books. I find them very inspirational when you need a pick me up or just a great book to keep by your bed and read in the morning or night to start or end your day. They come with a lot of wisdom from a man who i watched and respected my whole childhood.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2023Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThe book has a slip cover paper jacket, hard bound, and has 161 pages. The pages are not filled full as expected but have anywhere from just one sentence to a full paragraph. Yet in the simplicity of the writings, there is enough to ponder and consider by this amazing man, Mr. Rogers.
His kindness and gentle nature emerges and causes the reader to slow down to the speed of life and enjoy a thought or two.
The book makes a good keepsake and daily reader. Mr. Rogers was also a pastoral minister and clearly his beliefs of living others and having compassion and kindness sprouts from every page. He brings about the quality of God and love without ever bringing up religion. Genius.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2006I vividly recall a grade-school friend ridiculing Mr. Rogers when I was a child and I have to admit, I didn't quite "get" him. Looking back, I think at the time I was too old and not old enough. His program appeals to a younger crowd than I was at the time, though his message is truly understood by an older, more wiser crowd.
Now, two children later, I really "get" him. I was intrigued by this book when I first saw it at our local yoga studio after having watched Mr. Rogers some time ago again with my daughter and really being wowed by his message. What he said in that program, I cannot remember. But it was simple and profound whatever it was and my daughter "got it", too.
And so is this book - simple and profound. He provides reflections on life such as, "There is a part of all of us that longs to know that even what's weakest about us is still redeemable and can ultimately count for something good." He also presents a stong message of being OK with how you are, right now. He urges us to accept ourselves as we are and realize that we all have a gift to give to the world.
I have given the book to some parent-friends of mine, though non-parents will find his message hopeful and accepting as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2024Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseHis books are just incredible. I love this one, love the format,it’s smaller than regular book. Easy to grab in a smaller purse. Love all the quotes in the book. I highly recommend it. I’d read it to my kids too,it’s really great advice in it.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWith brief words from Joanne Rogers, widow of Fred Rogers, she shares with much intimacy her deepest thoughts that reflect upon the wisdom that he bestowed throughout his life and in his beloved television program. Mrs. Rogers reminisces of her and Mr. Rogers's life as far back as his childhood and the vivid memories and the people that he met along the way. Fittingly, the title of the book "Life's Journeys According to Mister Rogers: Things to Remember Along the Way contains a large sample of the words that he lived by on and off the camera within its concise format.
Reading the thoughts of Mister Rogers are as relevant today as they were spoken many years ago. What resonates spans beyond philosophical and religious lines as Rogers was also a Presbyterian Minister, and with that in mind his philosophy flowed simply in human terms much like the golden rule. Be it through the written word or through song, he had a way to convey the message and meaning and within the book are three songs that are reflective, "When the Day Turns Into Night" and "Please Don't Think It's Funny" and "I'm Proud of You." For readers old enough to remember, the Mister Rogers show contained a cavalcade of creative artists and musicians to Yo-You Ma to a variety of jazz musicians such as Wynton Marsalis and many more. Mister Rogers emphasized community and what makes one live and thrive within unselfish and compassionate ways. He had a way to confront issues and make important points of being oneself. For example, among the many quotes in the book Mister Rogers had an uncanny way to express, "Let your imagination help you to know the truth about your identity" (Kindle location 212-16).
And after reading the book, one take note of the three ways to success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to to be kind. The third way is to be kind. Indeed, Mister Rogers viewed his world from all sides and in essence, one may say he saw everyone as human and lessons that may also be learned along the way.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoyed this book of sayings, short stories and poetry. It should make you feel happy. It is quite short.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2019When I first saw Mr. Roger's Neighborhood on TV I wasn't too sure about this guy. Recently my wife passed away and I found this book in her possessions. I had no idea she had it. I read it 4 times. Not sure if it was the timing with me still grieving for my wife but I now have a high respect for Mr. Fred Rogers. It is a quick read yet I now understand what he was doing with the children's show. And his songs... The Foreword, written by his wife Joanne, grabbed me with the opening lines, which were from one of his songs. Read the book and see for yourself. This world could use more folks like Fred Rogers.

AlyssaReviewed in Canada on October 2, 20195.0 out of 5 stars My favourite out of all 3
Out of all of the mini Mr Rogers books, this one which I read last, is my favourite. I bought two copies, one for myself and one for my mom which she gave away to a friend who was struggling through a hard time. We need people to remind us of the good bits, the good parts, the gentle parts of ourselves, and show us perhaps, how to love again. Even how to love our self again. I think I might order it again for a friend.

The quotes are inspiring and the way they are spaced out on every page allows time for reflection. Mr Rogers communicate in a very straightforward and effective manner.
