    I read As We Are in one sitting during my cruise. It's a quick, fast paced novel that is all about being an outsider and finding where you fit in during high school. While the story is relatively predictable, I was able to relate to Lacey on multiple levels. I struggled to find my own place to fit in during high school, and Lacey's story was relatable on multiple levels.

    While the message about popularity and true friendship is clear, the story wasn't all that revolutionary. But Martinez still painted a compassionate, honest story of a young woman struggling to find her place, and that alone is impressive.

    In the paperback, there are some formatting errors that would benefit from being corrected. I'm not sure if it translates the same way to eBook or not. If the formatting were improved, it definitely would have been an easier read...but ultimately didn't take away from my full enjoyment.

    Overall this story is a great book for all ages, with a very clear message: popularity isn't everything.

    Also, [spoiler warning] I am so happy that Lacey and Grayson got together in the end because they were adorable!!
