Oops, so I'm late! Somehow December not only snuck up on me, it's been going merrily on it's way and I've only just realized it. So! If you would like a holiday card from me, please comment with a name and mailing address that will work to get that card to you! Also please let me know if you have any preferences with regard to the type of holiday card you get (otherwise, you'll get ...something, basically. it'll probably say 'christmas' on it).
Yay!
Also, if you are sending cards and you need my address, let me know! I want a card from you!

It's a little early, but I figure I could use the extra time to really get my act together. For instance, I still haven't sent my host mother the mother's day card I specifically bought months in advance. Uh, and mother's day was in May. Sooooo in an effort to be less of a failure to all of you, who wants a holiday card?
If you do, please put your mailing address in the (screened) comments. Also, let me know if you do or do not want any particular holiday reflected in your card (if you don't specify, you'll get something festively non-denominational)

Valentine's Day is coming up, and I've decided to dive right in to Free! fandom, so I am taking requests to write Free! valentine's drabbles. Any pairing (or more-some), any rating.
♥♥♥Valentine's Day Free! for All♥♥♥
☆assassin AU.
☆01.02: flutter. Rin+swimming? (or maybe it's really Nikki+swimming as she voyeuristically enjoys swimming through Rin)
♥02.02: cake. Makoto/Rin. 日本語で。
♥03.02: first swim. Rin/Haru.
♥04.02(a): between you and me. Mako/Haru/Rin
♥04.02(b) between you and me. definitely pairing fic, but use of 1st & 2nd person pronouns makes the pairings vague.
♥09.02: bulletproof. Mako/Rin (because fake boyfriends is my bulletproof)

Recipe serves 4
Ingredients:
2 cups shredded carrots
2 cups milk
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
6 chopped roasted cashew nuts (To garnish)
Method:
Roast the cashew nuts and set aside for the garnish.
Boil the milk on medium-high heat in a non-stick pan until it is reduced to about to 1 cup. Stir often to ensure the milk does not burn in the bottom of the pan. Set aside.
Melt the butter in a frying pan on medium heat.
Add the shredded carrots and stir-fry for about seven to eight minutes.
Carrots should be tender and slightly changed in color.
Add the milk and cook until the milk dries. This will take about eight to ten minutes.
Next add the sugar, and cardamom powder and stir-fry for another three to four minutes until the halwa starts to leave the side of frying pan.
Garnish with cashew nuts.
Tips:
Gajar Halwa can be refrigerated for up to one week and kept in the freezer for up to two months. When ready to serve just warm.
Suggestion:
Cook the halwa a little more and pour on a greased plate. Spread the halwa until it is flat and 3/4 inch thick. After the halwa cools, cut in squares. Garnish with cashew nuts or sliced almonds.

sad and lonely post that isn't being commentspammed for natsukashii riyuu at all.

saute onions in some butter and oil for about 5 minutes, then you add a little brown sugar and salt, turn down the heat and let them basically melt for about 10 minutes, then at the very end you add some balsamic vinegar and let that simmer out for just a little bit so the onion mixture thickens, then you put the onions on whatever you want! I think I might just make a batch of this to keep in the fridge so I can put it on anything I want, because it is sooo good.
It's that time of year again: the time when I start procrastinating sending holiday cards. And I can't do that unless I have people to send holiday cards out to. So, if you want a card, leave me your address in the comments below! Comments are set to be screened.
If you want a Christmas card, please tell me so, and if you want a not-Christmas holiday card, please tell me so. (If you don't care either way, lol feel free to let me know that too).

a variation of this (there is nothing else i want to add to or take away from this recipe post) was for dinner. Basically, we made the rice, sans the chicken, and instead i made a chicken (thigh) and spinach stirfry (with garlic and ginger) to go with it. Ritz made a variation of the chili sauce, and we ate until we couldn't anymore.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour, 45 minutes
Total Time: 2 hours
Ingredients:
1 cup dried chickpeas or 16 oz. can of chickpeas or garbanzo beans.
1 large onion, chopped*
2 cloves of garlic, chopped*
3 tablespoons of fresh parsley, chopped
1 teaspoon coriander*
1 teaspoon cumin*
2 tablespoons flour*
Salt
Pepper
Oil for frying
1 egg
Preparation:
Place dried chickpeas in a bowl, covering with cold water. Allow to soak overnight. Omit this step if using canned beans.
Drain chickpeas, and place in pan with fresh water, and bring to a boil. Allow to boil for 5 minutes, then let simmer on low for about an hour. Cover chickpeas with water and microwave for 5 minutes.
Drain and allow to cool for 15 minutes.
Combine chickpeas, garlic, onion, coriander, cumin, salt and pepper (to taste) in medium bowl. Add flour. *I eyeballed all of the spices (and omitted the parsley altogether) and probably put more in than the recipe strictly called for. Same for the flour, totally eyeballed that.
Mash chickpeas, ensuring to mix ingredients together. You can also combine ingredients in a food processor. You want the result to be a thick paste. Mush with egg. Add more flour or bread crumbs as necessary to make it vaguely the right texture.
Form the mixture into small balls, about the size of a ping pong ball. Slightly flatten.
Fry in 2 inches of oil at 350 degrees until golden brown (5-7 minutes).
Serve hot.

Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes
Yield Serves 4
Ingredients
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
2 shallots, minced
2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
1 1/2 tablespoons curry powder
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1-inch pieces
1 small russet potato, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
1 teaspoon coarse salt, plus more for seasoning
3 3/4 cups homemade or low-sodium canned chicken stock
1/2 cup heavy cream or milk
Freshly ground pepper
Sour cream, for garnish
Directions
Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add shallots; cook until soft and translucent, about 2 minutes. Add ginger and curry powder; cook, stirring, 1 minute. Add apples, potato, salt, and chicken stock. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, and cook until potato is tender when pierced with a paring knife, about 12 minutes. Remove from heat, and let cool slightly.
Use an immersion blender, or transfer mixture to the jar of a blender, working in batches if necessary so as not to fill more than halfway; puree just until smooth (do not overprocess). Return soup to pan; stir in cream, and season with salt and pepper. Place over medium heat until soup is just heated through; do not let it boil. Divide soup among serving bowls, and garnish with sour cream.

it uses leftover rice so it's super fast, as well as super tasty.
( directions, no list of ingredients, for i am lazy and i made this recipe upCollapse )
Serve and eat!
other things:
♥ You can also add white wine as part of your liquid if you want. You could also probably add cheese (I'd suggest something like parmesan, which is grated very finely, and easy to incorporate.
♥ If you're really lazy, you could probably cook everything in the bottom of your pot before adding more butter and the rice and liquid. I am really lazy, but I tend to mess up the timing of things when I cook them all in one pot like this, so I've always used a pot and a pan.
♥ while i've never tried it, I bet you could do this with brown rice too. Probably by adding more water.
