[New Magic Item] Gong of Hope and Sorrow

Gong of Hope and Sorrow

Wrilk and Skorbi were both severely wounded, things looked grim as Bakra-do finished off the last troglodyte and then rummaged through his backpack, praying for time. He produced a small gong and struck it. Moments later dwarf and wizard both moaned and groaned back to the land of the living, stabilized and back from the brink of death.
‘Rest up, I’ll take first watch,’ the mercenary said.
‘If I remember correctly, we shouldn’t waste too much time here, this land is now bearing a curse,’ cautioned Skorbi.
‘We really need a cleric,’ lamented Wrilk as he tried pulling himself together.

This small gong can be held in one hand and struck by the accompanying stick with the other. A boon for now, possibly a bane later.

Benefit: This enchanted gong can be sounded once a day to stabilize all within 30′ that are dying and give them 1 hit point. However, the next 1d4 intelligent creatures that die in this area rise at the next sunset as hostile and ravenous undead.

[New Spell] Vigil of Angels

Vigil of Angels

Nuli finished her prayer and a barrier of shimmering light appeared all around them, just as the tall, spiky infernal creature appeared snarling from the shadows.
‘Just in time,’ said Thoz as the barbed devil lunged at them and howled in pain as it struck the barrier.
‘What is it even doing here?’ asked Krogi as they watched it prowling around them, looking for a way to get at the adventurers.
‘Probably escaped after being summoned and now it lurks down here, waiting to be slain or banished, it is not important enough to get a foothold in our world,’ replied Arakam.
The barbed devil hissed and started to lunge forward then caught itself.
‘If you only knew my power,’ it snarled.
‘Well, I do and it isn’t that significant,’ Arakam stated as their celestial guardian cast Light onto the spiky infernal’s eyes.

Vigil of Angels (Cleric)

[New Monster] Shadow Stalker

Shadow Stalker

‘We showed that wizard!’ exclaimed Grovum the fighter.
Sadly, that was the last word from his adventuring group as the others just nodded in agreement as a shadowy figure lashed out at them from the Ethereal Plane.

Shadow Stalker: AC 3 [+16], HD 6 (27 hp), Att claws (1d4x2), THAC0 12 [+7], MV 120′ (20′) SV D 8 W9 P10 B10 S12 (9), ML 10, AL Neutral, XP 650 NA 1-2, TT B ▶ Shadow Leap/Touch the Ether: Can travel from shadow to shadow in line of sight and can enter the Ethereal Plane. ▶ Polymorph Self: into any humanoid form from 2′-10′ tall. ▶ Mundane Weapon Immunity: Can only be harmed by magical attacks, takes 2d4 damage from Light based spells while Darkness spells heal 2d4.

These eerie creatures are an offshoot/relative of the Phantom Stalker, yet instead of fire, these creatures are aligned with the Plane of Shadow. Summoned in the same way they are excellent guards, messengers and spies and if their summoner is killed they will hunt the killer through the Ethereal Plane to try to slay them at an opportune time. They may appear in most any humanoid form from 2′ tall to 10′ tall and in their natural form they resemble 7′ tall cloaked wraiths with glowing yellow eyes and a seemingly always sad expression.

[New Magic Item] Scarf of Noble Glamour

Scarf of Noble Glamour

‘Whatever happened to that twonk of an illusionist we encountered back in Yillga?’ Bakra-do asked as he and his companions stared into the campfire.
‘I believe that after you heckled him the locals shook off his tricks and brought him down a few notches to where he belonged,’ replied Skorbi.
‘Too much reliance on magic, that is the downfall of spellcasters,’ Wrilk commented as he patted his axe.
‘You never complain when I cast a spell to light a campfire or light up the darkness or electrify a foe,’ Skorbi snapped at the dwarf.
‘Well, that’s different, you cast for all of us, not just yourself,’ Wrilk answered, trying to recover the damage his tongue had caused.

A scarf that appears to be made of the finest material. Just make sure the hecklers are quieted down.

Benefit: When worn, this illusory finery causes all below 2+4 HD to treat the wearer as nobility. Peasants and yokels may bow and scrape and offer gifts to the scarf-wearer, yet if anyone not affected by this enchanted scarf heckles or insults the wearer the magic begins to fade and the crowd may (50% chance), get ugly.

[New Spell] Burden of Allies

Burden of Allies

The dwarf priest sighed as another poison victim was brought in. Potions and prayers were expended for the day, the other clerics were still miles away.
‘I have a solution,’ the priest said. The others knew that the dwarf had used what he had to save the others.
As the human and elf exchanged glances the dwarf lunged forward, invoking a prayer in the dwarvish tongue. He then winced as the poison began to course through him.
‘You fool! You are too valuable to us!’ the human fighter shouted.
‘He’s no fool, he can take the poison,’ said the elf.
The dwarf doubled over for a moment then pulled himself together and stood upright.
‘Let’s just hope that the poison has run its course, so to speak,’ the priest said.

Burden of Allies (Cleric)

Level 4

Range: Touch.

Duration: Instantaneous.

Priest/Priestess or Cleric initiating this prayer takes on the curse, poison or disease affect suffered by another living being. The caster takes on the full effect, which may be negated by item or spell. Any damage already suffered does not start over again, it finishes in its new vessel unless cured, reversed, etcetera. A Save, without bonus modifiers, is allowed to shake the effects.

[New Spell] Psalm of Stone

Psalm of Stone

Nuli stood up, raised a finger to her lips with one hand and pointed to a strangely stained section of wall in the dungeon. Thoz nodded and checked the spot then turned and gave the others a thumbs up. Arakam began a spell as Krogi readied his weapons then both nodded back to the thief who sprung a latch and the section of wall that didn’t match swung inwards.
Lantern light revealed a quartet of ghouls.
‘We enjoy the element of surprise, you foiled us,’ one of them snarled as Arakam’s spell raced into the ancient burial chamber and the restless undead began screaming and flailing.

Psalm of Stone (Cleric)

Level 3

Range: Touch.

Duration: Instantaneous.

The cleric chants while touching stone (floor, wall, ceiling, altar, statue, etc) and this reveals any hidden chambers, burial vaults or desecrated ground within 45′. Only the areas are known to the caster, not the contents or possible inhabitants.

[New Magic Item] Midnight Bell

Midnight Bell

The flesh golem sneered as it carried the huge bell forward, ever forward.
‘What have you done to cause this?’ Jaundo asked as he and the wizard hurried along, trying to outrun the bell bearer and the trailing mob of ghouls and skeletons.
‘I am not sure, yet it must have been bad for a necromancer to sic that crowd on us,’ Uzeb the Wise replied.
Jaundo paused for a moment. Uzeb urged him on.
‘Oh, maybe that was me that offended the necromancer, back in Bottle,’ the fighter said. ‘No matter, that bell tolls for both of us as we are the ones drawing breath.’
‘Yes. No matter,’ Uzeb mumbled to himself.

This large, dark bell is covered in arcane writing. Somehow, necromancers always seem to know when it is around and seek it out, even fighting for it.

Benefit: When rung, this bell grants ALL undead creatures withing 60′ 1 extra HD while making all living creatures -1 to Hit and Damage for one turn (ten minutes). After this time everyone reverts to normal and any extra HD are lost. Can be used once every other hour and contrary to its name, it can be used day and night.

[New Spell] Courtesy of Thorns

Courtesy of Thorns

‘I will hunt you down, and it will be ugly,’ growled Bakra-do who then winced in pain.
Slokoff the illusionist grinned as the mercenary grimaced.
‘Your spell can only last so long.’
The spellcaster looked a little green and turned to retreat hastily.
‘Please. Come, have a drink of wine!’ Bakra-do said sardonically.

Courtesy of Thorns (Illusionist)

Level 3

Range: Self or Touch.

Duration: One turn.

For one turn, all creatures must act with exaggerated politeness toward the caster (Save vs Spells negates hostile action). Rudeness, mockery, threats or attempts of physical harm causes minor sharp pain, as if pricked by a few thorns (1d4 hp) damage for each incidence, the acute pain breaks concentration.

[New Magic Item] Postponing Hourglass

Postponing Hourglass

‘Nuli, do you have time to stabilize Krogi and stop the poison from that snake?’ Arakam asked.
The priestess looked concerned for a moment.
Thoz set a small hourglass on the table nearby.
‘She does now,’ the thief said.
Nuli nodded to Thoz and got to work as Thoz and Arakam kept an eye out for any more trouble.

A small hourglass of sliver and clear crystal with ‘sand’ from the Astral Plane. Looks common until looked at more closely and the magical engraving is revealed.

Benefit: Once per week this enchanted hourglass can be used to delay a single effect (poison, trap, collapse, spell, etcetera) for exactly three rounds. This does not stop the process, only delays it for the effects until the sand runs out and does not stop further events, only the one decided by the wielder of the enchanted item.

[New Magic Item] Everburning Scroll

Everburning Scroll

‘What’s that glow ahead?’ Wrilk asked.
As the trio drew closer their fascination grew, and then they saw it, sitting on a slab of rock, a strange page or leaf of paper, burning yet not being consumed by the flame.
‘What does it do?’ asked Bakra-do.
‘If I recall correctly, we could use that so that I can cast an extra spell, yet we need to let it keep burning,’ replied Skorbi.
‘Is it worth it?’ Wrilk asked.
‘That’s a good question,’ replied Skorbi as he contemplated the scroll.

This magic item looks like an ordinary parchment scroll, frayed on the edges and weathered, and on fire, yet never being consumed. It can be held safely despite appearances.

Benefit: This enchanted scroll allows its owner to cast a 4d6 fireball once per day, keep themselves and allies within 30′ warm and comfortable in the cold, offers heat resistance and grants a +1 to Charisma when dealing with creatures of fire such as elementals, efreeti, azer, yet not infernal creatures (although the latter appreciate the chaotic aspects of an item that can catch things on fire as the scroll will also catch flammable items on fire. Countering this, water based creatures will tend to attack the bearer of this scroll first and if it is denied air or submerged in water or buried in the earth it will be destroyed and lose its magic; it must be kept in the open air and burning all the time.

Usable by: Anyone who can use scrolls.
