This was a tough year for me personally as well as for the world but I come out of it even more grateful for all my friends and for fandom so thank you to everyone who was there for me in any small way and I wish everyone a happy new year and the best possible 2017!
( End of the Year Meme 2016Collapse )
I'm not going to do the End of the Year Fandom meme right now as I'm out of time and it's kind of complicated at the moment. I miss having a fandom OTP right now and am hoping I will find something in 2017.

| End of Year Vidding Meme 2016 |
[Dec. 30th, 2016|09:26 pm]

I'm lazy so here: My Vids.
January Alive (Pitch Perfect) Headphones (Pitch Perfect) Shine (Years & Years) Blow (Gone Girl) Ready or Not (Hamilton)
February Sparks (Blue Neighbourhood) ILYSB (Hamilton RPF)
August Goin' Down For Real (Multi) Suffer (Person of Interest) Delilah (Person of Interest)
Total Vids: 10
My favorite video this year (of my own) Goin' Down For Real because while it took a lot of time, it made me really happy to see so many canon femslash pairings in a year that was terrible for us femslashers. I love watching it and it's just really sexy and gay which are two of my favorite things. I was really happy with how it turned out which is always important to me and I had a great time dancing to it at Club Vivid.
My least favourite video this year I truly like all of my vids this year. If forced maybe Ready or Not just because I had limited time to make it and I wish I had more time to make a real Hamilton vid. BUT I REALLY LOVE HAMILTON and I enjoyed making the vid a lot so I truly love that vid too.
Most successful video Most of my vids were successful as far as I am concerned but in terms of comments, Alive and Goin' Down For Real (the latter esp for online viewership).
Video most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion I was happy with the reception for all of them but I think Suffer deserves a little more love because daaamn they are too hot together and it's one of my favorite of my own vids to rewatch it all together in that vid.
Most fun video This is hard because the process of making Headphones, Ready or Not, ILYSB, Goin' Down For Real and Suffer were all fun to make in many ways. But I guess in terms of fun overall...ILYSB. I had deadline stress but I was so in love with these two boyfriends that it didn't even matter and it's just a cute, shippy little vid.
Video with single sexiest moment HOW TO CHOOSE???? Like almost all of Goin' Down For Real (esp the last third) and most of Suffer too. But the one moment I think of is the last clip in Suffer where Root runs her hand down Shaw's back cause DAMN that just gets to me. So I'm going to go with that.
Biggest vid fail As usual, rushing to make vids to deadlines is a problem as it's hard to make the vids live up to my own standards but nothing major in terms of vids this year. I suppose I had an audio issue with Suffer at Vividcon but I fixed it for the online version so *shrugs*.
Hardest video to make Goin' Down For Real because it was my first multi vid and it took FOREVER to find all the sources and get source for them and find femslash scenes from YT videos in the actual source. Plus I struggled trying to make it sexy and look good and all fit together. But it was worth the effort in the end and it came together like I hoped.
Most unintentionally telling video Hahaha. This question is a little #tooreal for me this year for reasons I'm not getting into here but I'd say the trio of VVC vids were more personal than I thought and I saw a different layer to Delilah once I made it so let's go with that one.
Things I've learned Some of it is hard to put into words but the things that stick out is how to make multi vids, getting better at making sexy vids, doing more with motion, dealing with different source sizes, a little progress on cutting fast and less applied but I've learned more about color this year.
Things to work on I'm always trying to improve my cutting and expressing ideas in vidding the best possible way. I would like to improve my technical skills across the board from learning Premiere/AE better, learning more color with Davinci Resolve (it's FREE and professional color grading software) as well as learning more about compositing and visual design in general. I would like to learn how to clip and edit faster as I have too many ideas and it takes too long to vid and I think I've let inertia carry me along too long in my current process.
Vid projects I definitely want to get finished this upcoming year My festivids assignment OF COURSE although I'm struggling with motivation with it right now. I'm worried it'll be a one vid (or two with a quick treat) Festivids year because I'm a bit overwhelmed with other non-vidding things right now. I am DETERMINED to finish a multi vid for VVC Premieres this year that's very important and meaningful to me but I am worried about time with it. I hope to have a TGIF/F vid but worry about time as I have another multi vid I want to make for VVC plus at least one CVV vid which I already started.
Resolutions for 2017 As always, try to start vid projects and make more consistent process so I'm not rushed at the end and can get more beta feedback. Habitica (habit app that a bunch of vidders use, lmk if you want a guild invite) has helped a lot with consistency but I need to improve with doing more each day versus all at once. I'm constantly struggling with when to say no to vid ideas in order to focus on the vid ideas I most want to make so I would like to keep trying to focus on my most important vids especially in the first half of this year. As mentioned above, get better technically as well as learn more about film and visual images to work more on how to create the most meaning and beauty from the imagery I work with. I'm trying to learn more about fan studies as I would like to make more vids about fandom in the future and it helps me get a better perspective on vids and fandom as a whole. Also try to be the change I want to see in the world and talk more about vidding as well as encourage others to talk about it. I miss when the vidding community used to post more about vids back in the golden age of LJ (siiigh end of an era now).

Dear Festividder,
Thank you so much for making me a vid! I am so excited to see what you come up with and I'm sure it'll be amazing. I love all kinds of music so follow your heart and what suits the vid for you. If you're looking for any guidelines, I tend to prefer indie pop, indie rock, hip hop, mashups, top 40, instrumentals, any kind of music that's emotional or that includes dynamic instrumentation. I love all kinds of vids, character studies, feels vids, shipper, meta, experimental, effects-y vids, dance-y vids, fast or slow, dark, angsty or happy. I am less into vids with dialogue within the vid but if you have a great idea for it, go for it (Uprooted is one where adding words from the book could be interesting)! Any rating or content is fine with me. If you need to use limited (not including Uprooted obviously) external source for your vid idea, I'm totally cool with that. I love Festivids so please enjoy yourself, I'm sure I'll love whatever you make!
( Requests for Billy & Billie, Ghostbusters, Halt and Catch Fire, Hamilton, Just Jillian, UnREAL, Uprooted, The WireCollapse )
Thank you so much Festividder!
P.S. If all else fails, as is true in many things in life, go for the gay ;)

( Vividcon Con Report 2016 (Part 2)Collapse )
Thank you again to all the amazing people that made my Vividcon so wonderful and amazing and for all the people who helped put the con together, worked on programming and submitted vids. It was funny that there was a panel at the con about letting go because it felt like a lot of the con was an exercise in letting go for me: letting go of my expectations, my nerves, FOMO, my hopes that everything would go perfectly and instead just savoring all the good moments, allowing myself to be vulnerable and making deeper connections from it, doing the best I could even when things were hard, loving the vids and community all around me. In the end, life is too fucking short to focus on the bad stuff so I tried my best to be happy at all the good things this con gave me this year and all the ways it has enhanced my life. I love Vividcon so much and I'm so glad I've gotten to enjoy it with so many different beautiful, amazing people and that is so incredibly meaningful.

So I'm back from Vividcon 2016 and as always, I had an amazing time. It was probably the weirdest Vividcon I've ever been to (personally) and an emotional roller coaster throughout but I had a lot of fun and it was wonderful to see so many friends again (even though I missed others who weren't there). There were so many incredible vids this year and I am constantly amazed by the creativity, brilliance and talent of the vidding community and so happy to be a part of it.

| New vid: ILYSB (Hamilton RPF) |

Title: ILYSB Music: "ILYSB" by LANY Fandom: Hamilton RPF Focus: Lin-Manuel Miranda/Jonathan Groff Summary: I love you, babe — so bad, so bad. Content Notes: None. Notes: Made for Escapade 2016. There are a few minor changes from the version that showed at the con. Download Link: ILYSB (49MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
I've fallen head over heels with Lin Manuel Miranda/Jonathan Groff since they love each other SO MUCH and are so cute on Twitter and in videos about it and basically ship themselves. So I knew for Escapade I wanted to make a RPS vid about their love for each other and since there's limited footage, I figured I'd have time to vid them in 3-7 days after Festivids. I already had the song since I loved this song for months and "hella obsessed with your face" always reminded me of how LMM looks at Groffsauce and I just had to audio edit a bit to get the right lyrics and length. It was a little complicated techically to make since I had to gather all the footage which was in all different sizes and qualities and then get it scaled down but I managed to figure that all out and also edit the song I had found that gave me happy LMM/Groffsauce feels. I was unsure of how to handle the smaller footage but then figured out to put the Hamilton background there which I liked how it connected their relationship to the larger musical. The structure was pretty simple with vidding to the lyrics although it was a little tricky trying to get some visual contrast as well as figuring out how to use the tweets and still images. Mostly I had a LOT of feels making this and even though it was a bit of a rush at the end, I'm still really glad I was able to make a little vid to condense all their cuteness together and give me a shipper high whenever I watch it.

Title: Sparks Music: "Sparks" by Fleurie Fandom: Blue Neighbourhood (3 part music video series) Focus: Troye/Matthew Summary: Sparks for the first time. Content Notes: Physical triggers (e.g., epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills) Notes: Made for Escapade 2016. Download Link: Sparks (46MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
So I wasn't planning to make this vid but then winterevanesce made me this AMAZING vid for Blue Neighbourhood that gave me all the feels and reignited my desire to vid these precious boys. Since she had vidded both the angst and cuteness so well, I figured I could still make a happy, romantic vid for them so I looked at the end of my new songs I like playlist on Spotify and almost immediately found the song I used for the vid. So it was basically fate ;) I initially was going to cut the song more but I really wanted that crescendo instrumental build so I figured I'd make it work with the clips I had. I knew I wanted to start the beginning with the young kids realizing they had feelings to make it clear it was a romance at each age and I figured out I wanted to build to the kiss in the first chorus and then the sex in the last section. One of the other reasons I wanted to make the vid is to give my proof and interpretation of why I think the music videos ended in a happy ending (it's ambiguous) or why it SHOULD so hopefully that comes through on some level. It was fun to vid Troye and Matthew who are just so freaking attractive as well as the cuteness of the boys and besides an audio issue at the very end, I had a fun and pain-free vidding process as it mostly all came together. And I am definitely in agreement with the people at Escapade who wanted the movie not a music video series because I really, really wish the source was longer and had the story (hint hint write fic!).

|
Title: Ready or Not Music: Bridgit Mendler Fandom: Hamilton Summary: No one is ready for Hamilton. Content Notes: Physical triggers (e.g., epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills) Notes: Made for sdwolfpup in Festivids 2015. Download Link: Ready or Not (68MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr Alternative streaming option on Vimeo here (PW: hamilton)
So I really wanted to make a Hamilton vid for Festivids but most of my vid ideas for the show required too much footage I didn't have as well as a lot of time that I didn't really have with all the other Festivids I wanted to make. So I thought it wouldn't happen this year until I found this song and I must have been in a Hamilton mood because only half the lyrics make sense for him and the other half are COMPLETELY wrong. But I kept getting attached to the idea and I figured if I had time, I could make a vid in the last couple days before the deadline by cutting the song down. I didn't really have time but I made enough to cut out all the lyrics that didn't fit Hamilton and just kept the last chrous and figured I'd just make a happy, Hamilton focused ensemble vid for the show. At one point, I thought about making the vid more meta about the show phenomen itself but when I tried to do that, I realized I didn't have enough time to tell both stories adequely so I just went with Hamilton the show.
It was a LOT of fun to vid this because I'm so obsessed with the musical and vidding allowed me to really see each little face movement and all the little details I miss on regular viewings. The lyric matchings were really fun although it became a bit tricky to have some more structure for when it was less obvious but I enjoyed comparing Jefferson & co to redcoats at the end fighting section as well as figuring out ways to introduce all the major players in Hamilton's life. One of my favorite clips is Hamilton's smile to Angelica because SO CUTE and I also loved putting in my little "follow" Hamilton/Washington moment. Ultimately I wanted to make it for sdwolfpup since she has been so awesome on Twitter with quoting Hamilton and being fun to talk to about Hamilton and Leslie. I wanted to make her a Burr vid actually but could never find a song that would work for such limited footage and I also figured someone else would do it. Anyways, the beginning turned out to be one of the trickiest parts but I was happy with the way the whole vid turned out in the end even if I'm not sure if it's a bit too fast. In any case, do not worry, this is DEFINITELY not the last Hamilton vid you'll see from you and I'm so excited to vid it when we have HQ footage of the whole musical to vid the longer vids in my head.

Title: Alive Music: "Alive" by Krewella Fandom: Pitch Perfect movies Focus: Beca/Chloe Summary: Come on, make me feel alive. Content Notes: Physical triggers (e.g., epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills) Notes: Made for metatxt in Festivids 2015. Thanks to jarrow for the beta. Download Link: Alive (94MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr Alternative streaming option on Vimeo here (PW: festivids2015)
So I was planning to make metatxt a Bechloe vid since I knew she LOVED them and so when I got assigned to her, I was super excited to get a chance to actually make it especially when I read her Dear Festividdder letter which was hilarious and inspiring. I also loved that I was making it for Festivids since I had used the Pitch Perfect finale song a few years ago to make my Parks vid and it felt very full circle to vid the actual movies. My first problem though was finding the right song and that turned out to be a little harder than I thought as it took me about two weeks. While I looked around for songs, I clipped the movie and once I finished, I already had the song for Headphones so I vidded that as I was waiting but I started to get nervous because I wanted to finish the vid by the end of the November (ha!). I was complaining about it to elipie and then I started just searching for titles that reminded me of the vibe I was looking for and "Alive" was one of them, I found this song and the rest was history. Except that I actually planned to cut the song after the second chorus because I didn't think I had enough Bechloe footage but later on when I tried it, it felt cut off and like the ending wasn't strong or conclusive enough and that it needed more.
Yeah, so that's when I decided I needed to add the rest of the song and make it more of an ensemble dance chorus so that was more clipping I had to do which made the vid take longer than I expected. I struggled a little bit with making the choruses be fun and dance-y in an interesting way as well as dealing with the heavy face shots of the Bechloe scenes but was able to find a way to make it work for me and I had a lot of fun vidding the quick editing sections before the choruses. Even though it was harder than I expected and took longer, it was really fun to rekindle my Bechloe love and gave me a lot of feels and I was glad it made metatxt happy in the end.

It's the last day of the year so you know what means: meme time.
What fandoms did you acquire in 2015?
HAMILTON (so obsessed), The Good Wife (Kalicia mostly), Person of Interest (Root/Shaw/Machine mostly), UnREAL, The Fall, Billy & Billie, Halt and Catch Fire, Review, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Carmilla, Difficult People, The 100, Casual, The Leftovers, The X-Files (on S2), Galavant, Better Call Saul, Master of None, Fresh Off the Boat, Sense8, Grace and Frankie, Frasier (still working on this), Another Period, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Empire, Supergirl (maybe, I can barely watch this as a clipping show but I love Kara/Cat), Jessica Jones (kind of-may only watch Jeri scenes next season), Star Wars (a little).
Started but not sure yet: Ballers, Bloodline, Cucumber, Banana, Fear the Walking Dead, Girl Meets World, Mr. Robot, The Man in the High Castle, Outlander, Rectify, Survivor's Remorse
What fandoms did you let go of in 2015?
Hockey RPF (for the quickest/worst fandom loss ever), The Mindy Project (I can't do bad baby plots even when I LOVE Mindy), Jane the Virgin (I also can't do good baby plots), maybe Fargo not sure yet.
What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2015? Why?
Deadwood (I got through mid-S1 and now forget most of it so haven't gone back), Penny Dreadful (not really my thing although I may try again another time), Manhattan (slow so far but I may try again).
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2016?
Deadwood, Show Me a Hero, Hannibal (catch up), Louie (catchup), Black-ish, Playing House, Banana, Cucumber, The Returned, Lovely Little Losers, The Man in the High Castle, Mr. Robot.
What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2016 unless things significantly improve?
Right now I'm iffy on some shows that are kind of boring me: Nashville, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Empire, maybe Supergirl.
What show impressed you most in 2015?
Not TV but Hamilton was the best thing I listened to and watched all year and in the top 3 in my entire life. SO BRILLIANT, amazing use of words, narrative, incredible characters to identify with, revolutionary idea, music that I listen to nonstop. UnREAL was incredible with its interesting critique of reality shows and the beautiful, complicated, interesting relationship (and character development) of the two female leads. In general I found some unique, intriguing, feelsy femslash in The Good Wife with Alicia/Kalinda and in Person of Interest with Root/Shaw that was amazing to experience. I loved the Parks and Mad Men series finales which went out on top and moved me to tears. Movie-wise, Inside Out blew me away and Carol was so beautiful and amazing it took my breath away.
What show impressed you least in 2015?
Really bummed The Mindy Project not only did an accidental pregnancy plot that made no sense (THEY'RE OBGYNS!!!) but then badly handled the baby plot, made me dislike Danny with SAHM bullshit and then added a sexist doctor and that finally forced me to abandon the show despite my hero worship for Mindy Kaling for almost 10 years. I may go back someday but I had to quit it for now. The Kevin episodes/half-episodes on The Leftovers were THE WORST and bring the show way down for me (why are you wasting Regina King and Carrie Coon???). Jessica Jones had potential but I'm still bitter what they did to Jeri and how they sacrificed character development for plot which was drawn out way too long.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
I'm curious about Westworld, American Gods, Emerald City, Billions, Angie Tribeca (written by Steve Carell and his wife starring Rashida Jones), The Catch (Shondaland), The Magicians. I will not catch up in time but I'm looking forward to later watching The X-Files revival once I do. Moviewise, looking forward to The Girl with All the Gifts, Ghostbusters, Moana (LMM) and Finding Dory.
I've been reading some of my favorite TV critics about TV shows and criticism and #PeakTV and all that but lately I've been pretty disappointed with TV. There's nothing that's really grabbing me and that's not just good (sometimes great) but truly Great like a Breaking Bad or similar. I miss great shows that have characters that I really connect with and I'm always frustrated with all the white guy centered shows out there. It's frustrating that there's so many TV shows and yet I have such a hard time finding ones I truly love. Imma keep trying though as a helpless TV fan but I hope next year will be better for TV. In any case, I've been trying to read more books to help fulfill the character connections I'm not getting as much on TV although I miss the visuals with books and fandoms are harder to come by.

My least favourite video this year: I liked all my vids this year but probably Us Against the World because I still need to fix the choruses and am struggling with getting the source again to do it and it makes me sad it didn't come out like I wanted it to in my head.
Most successful video Through the Deep, Dark Woods got the most love during Festivids and Dark Doo Wop did best at VVC. It also seemed that Afire Love was very successful at making people cry so I was proud of that :)
Video most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Happy with all my feedback but probably Don't Wanna Dance which I expected.
Most fun video: Sugar was a lot of fun to make in terms of happy shippy feels and I think that comes through.
Video with single sexiest moment: Dark Doo Wop with OT3 kissing and HTGAWM Annalise/Wes sexy moments.
Biggest vid fail: Festivids deadline fail in terms of really struggling with them last minute so a few vids didn't come out like I hoped.
Hardest video to make: Don't Wanna Dance in terms of clipping 10 seasons and Afire Love in terms of crying.
Most unintentionally telling video: I don't know if this applies this year but a lot of the vids I made I cried making/watching this year, in part reminding me of my mom so that probably came through (All I Want, Grow Old With Me, Afire Love in particular).
For 2015: I'm working on finishing some festivids including some tough ones as well as a few fun treats. I have one vid I've been dying to make for VVC for years and I'm determined to do it this year. I have a fun CVV vid in mind and a couple large projects I want to start working on. I want to continue working on cutting, visual techniques and learn more After Effects.

Dear Festividder,
Thank you so much for making me a vid! I am so excited to see what you come up with and I'm sure it'll be amazing. I love all kinds of music so follow your heart and what suits the vid for you. If you're looking for any guidelines, I tend to prefer indie pop, indie rock, hip hop, top 40, any kind of music that's emotional or that includes dynamic instrumentation. I love all kinds of vids, character studies, feels vids, shipper, meta, effects-y vids, fast or slow, dark, angsty or happy. I am less into vids with dialogue within the vid but if you have a great idea for it, go for it! Any rating or content is fine with me. I love Festivids so please enjoy yourself, I'm sure I'll love whatever you make!

Title: Dark Doo Wop Music: "Dark Doo Wop" by MS MR Fandom: House of Cards (US) S1-2 Focus: Edward Meechum/Claire Underwood/Francis Underwood Summary: If we're going down, baby you should stick around. Content Notes: Physical triggers (e.g. epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills), brief graphic violence Notes: Made for Vividcon Premiere 2015. Thanks to isagel for the quick beta! Download Link: Dark Doo Wop (62 MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
So I originally had another vid planned for Premieres but after making my Club Vivid vid, I needed a break from vidding and after that I realized I wasn't going to have the time to actually make that more time intensive vid. In mid-May, I started catching up on House of Cards S2 and fell hard for this threesome which features one of the most beautiful, intense and nonverbal romantic scenes I've ever seen. As luck would have it, I heard this song in one of Spotify's playlists I was listening to as I fell asleep and I realized it was perfect for them while also having the lyrics to cover some of the political stuff I wanted to include. It was nice to have a less time intensive clipping process and the House of Cards pretty imagery helped make the vidding process mostly painless as I wanted to use the symbols to provide some context and meaning to their relationship together. It turned to be one of those vids that looks very similar to what I saw in my head before I made it which is always wonderful when it occurs.

Title: Don't Wanna Dance Music: "Don't Wanna Dance" by MØ (Titus Jones Remix) Fandom: Grey's Anatomy S1-10 Focus: Meredith/Cristina Summary: I don't wanna dance with nobody but you. Content Notes: Physical triggers (e.g. epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills) Notes: Made for Club Vivid 2015. Download Link: Don't Wanna Dance (72 MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
I've wanted to make a Cristina/Meredith vid since 2005 when I was really into Grey's Anatomy and I've always promised myself when the show was over (or Cristina left) I would. Since the latter happened, last year at a Vividcon room party I swore that I'd make one for them for next year's Vividcon. Amazingly enough, I actually did it! The pairing is very meaningful to me because it was my first femslash OTP and helped keep me watching the show for many years. Last year I heard the original version of this song and I loved the chrous which seemed perfect for making a dancing focused Cristina/Meredith vid that I could premiere at Club Vivid. Unfortunately the lyrics section lacked a good dancing beat so I knew I'd have to find a remix to make the song danceable for CVV.
I searched the internet but I hated all the remixes I found so I realized I'd have to take matters into my own hands. I've always loved Titus Jones's mashups so I looked into whether he could make a custom remix for me and to my surprise, he could and for a reasonable low price! It was a really easy process for him to make the remix and he even added the quick beats right before the chorus without me asking which really enhanced the vid IMO. The clipping process was horrible because the show is so long but I started early and tried to maintain a quick pace to find all the Meredith/Cristina scenes and any other relevant clips. It took forever but I managed to do it and did some vidding in between to make it more fun. It was a bit overwhelming at first but I was able to just find the best clips to use between them and once I figured out what the different sections of the vid would be doing (in relation to Cristina's growth and journey), I was able to find the clips that would work best in each one. Overall I really enjoyed getting to squee over Meredith and Cristina's scenes again and create the friendship/femslash (I've always loved how easily their relationship can go either way and that the vid leaves it open to interpretation) vid I've always wanted to make for them.

Title: Honey and the Moon Music: Joseph Arthur Fandom: Soccer RPF Focus: Jürgen Klinsmann/Joachim Löw Summary: I wish I could follow you to freedom. Content Notes: None. Notes: Made for Escapade 2015. Download Link: Honey and the Moon (71 MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
So last year in June, I started watching the World Cup and got really into watching all the teams play against each other. Being American, I supported the USA (among others) but in particular I fell in love with the coach, Jürgen Klinsmann who has this enthusiasm I adore. My friend, caesaria told me she shipped Jurgen/Jogi, Jogi referring to the German coach, Joachim Löw. I started reading more about them since Jurgen's history is that he was a German player that won the World Cup with West Germany in 1990 and then became head coach of Germany to lead them in the 2006 World Cup (held in Germany) where they exceeded expectations with the help of Jurgen's assistant coach, Joachim (tactics master). Jurgen left the head coaching job and later in 2011 accepted a head coaching position for the USA since he's lived in California for a long time and feels a connection with the country but he's still friends with Jogi. Anyways, I watched the German documentary, A Summer Fairytale that followed Germany's run in the 2006 World Cup and completely fell in love with the ship so that when USA played Germany in the 2014 World Cup, I had a LOT OF FEELINGS and was happy when everything worked out well for both teams. After Germany won the World Cup, I was even more in love with the ship (Jurgen said: JOGI YOU DID IT!!! in a tweet :D) and really wanted to vid them.
This song has been a big favorite of mine since it played on The OC ages ago and it came up on my iPhone shuffle and all of a sudden, I started seeing clips in my head set to the music as it expressed a bunch of things I wanted to show about the ship. It was a major pain finding all the footage and getting it in the right format as I spent many, many hours searching Youtube for good footage but it was worth it when I would find the perfect shippy clips (sometimes quality did have to suffer a bit though). I had a lot of fun vidding it though as this was soon after the World Cup so I had a lot of squee about them. The ending was a bit tricky though as I didn't have a ton of footage and I wanted to create a kind of constructed reality or at least imply that they were together far away vacationing together while still giving it a feeling of being free symbolically speaking. There was some helpful commercial footage of Jogi that helped a lot as well as a cool promo from USA soccer of Jurgen. I finished most of it by October but there was still a few things I needed to change and then Festivids happened but I was able to make a few fixes and send it to Escapade. If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask as I really, really love them and would love to provide more info about their unique situation.
(PS Come join me! It's lonely being in love with a rare pairing)

So I knew I wanted to make a How to Get Away With Murder vid for Festivids and I was lucky enough to have two great songs fall into my hands for it. I decided to make this one because I looove Annalise/Wes and wanted to vid out my feelings for them. Plus I knew Nicole liked them too so she would enjoy it as well. I started vidding the beginning but after that I was busy working on my other Festivids and this one started to fall by the wayside. But I was determined to make it and I was able to finish clipping and get little bits of vidding done in the weeks before golive. Finally I was down to my last two days of vidding and this was one of the vids I worked on with the deadline forcing me to let go of my perfectionism issues with vidding all the fast parts. This vid almost didn't exist, I literally was up ALL night finishing it and at 4am almost gave up on it because I was so tired and didn't think I could finish it. Thankfully, a few supportive words from a friend and taking a short break got me back to finishing it and I was able to finish up all edits before golive went live. I was also very thankful for the last episode of HTGAWM that aired a couple days before the golive deadline that gave me some AMAZING footage that I put to good use.

I've wanted to make a Keith/David vid since I saw Six Feet Under for the first time and fell in love with them but my plans to actually make it kept being delayed because I kept stalling in my rewatches and putting them off til I could better take the show emotionally. But finally I found this perfect song this year and knew I just had to bump up this show in my priority rewatch list especially as I wanted to use watching it as a bit of grief therapy. The show was tough to watch at times and watching the finale was almost worst this time having a more personal experience with death but it was good to finally get to see the greatest TV show finale ending of all time again. I was able to take clip notes while watching which made clipping much easier than it could have been. The vid came together pretty easily as it was mainly finding the most significant moments for them and trying not to cry too much with the ending. This Festivids year was the year of crying for me (both happy and sad) and this vid was probably the vid I've cried the most throughout the entire process but I'm really glad I finally have a vid that sums up my feelings about them.

Title: Can't Pretend Music: "Can't Pretend" by Tom Odell Fandom: Luther S1-3 Focus: John/Alice Summary: Our souls, they blend. Content Notes: Graphic Violence Notes: Made for lunesque in Festivids 2014. Download Link: Can't Pretend (85 MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
So I finally watched Luther around October (?) of last year and fell madly in love with Luther/Alice. I didn't expect to make a vid for them for this year's Festivids but in looking for shipper songs to express my feels for them, I heard the song Can't Pretend (which was on my to-vid playlist from last Festivids) and it was SO THEM and all of a sudden I wanted to vid it for them. Problem was I was worried about time and my original plan for this vid was a lot more ambitious (turned out it wasn't right for this vid). So I decided to pick up a pinch hit for lunesque to give me the deadline motivation to clip and vid this song which felt a bit above my ability. I clipped out most of the J/A stuff and was having fun vidding the beginning and a few other of my favorite ideas for the vid when I started stalling and having trouble getting myself to vid this. Largely I had such big perfectionist ideas about the vid that my fear of failure made me avoid the vid which is how I ended up having to vid this in the last two weeks before the deadline which does get rid of fear of failure but was not fun when also trying to finish my assignment vid. Ultimately there are a few things I wanted to change and make better but I ran out of time and now don't have the motivation to fix. But I'm glad I was able to make a shipper vid for them that expressed why I love them so much and was able to let out some of my feelings.

When I first saw Life of Pi, I thought it was one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen and I wanted to vid it. Last year I heard this song while in Europe at a museum and connected it to this fandom (I was looking for a song) and it captured what I wanted to vid about Pi. I had another song for the fandom but this song seemed a better fit for what thingswithwings wanted and I was happy to be able to vid this for her. I vidded most of it in November 2014 and for the most part it wasn't too hard to vid although vidding the end made me cry a lot.

I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower a few years ago and fell in love with it and was so happy to find out the writer was making a film version of the book so I could vid it. I wanted to vid the movie last Festivids but couldn't find the right song but in the last year I heard this song and fell in love as it captured the book and movie perfectly. I made this vid in the first couple weeks after assignments went out as it was relatively easy to make as most of the structure and clips easily came to me and it was a lot of fun to vid. It's a bit different than my normal style in that I wanted to let the clips breathe more and fully show the connection between the three of them.

Here's the end of the year vidding meme for 2014:
(Links can be found here: My Vids)
January: Final Round (Pariah) Love, Save The Empty (Masters of Sex) All We Got (The Great Gatsby) Get Me Bodied (The Fifth Element)
March: Here In Your Arms (The Voice)
April: Right Now (Game of Thrones)
June: Ready or Not (Faking It) Made For This (Game of Thrones)
Total Vids: 8
My favourite video this year (of my own): Made For This because I'd been waiting to make that vid for 2 years and I was so happy to make it and let out my feelings for Cersei and Cersei/Jaime. Even though it didn't come out exactly like it did in my head, a lot of it was similar and I feel like I had to grow as a vidder to make it.
My least favourite video this year: I like all of my vids this year but if I had to pick a least favorite, it would be Love, Save the Empty as it didn't quite come out like I had hoped and honestly, I felt like the other Festivids for the fandom were better which brought me down a bit. But I did love vidding the pairing :)
Most successful video I was really happy with the responses to All We Got and Get Me Bodied in terms of number of comments and them being appreciated by some of the vidders I admire.
Video most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I'm happy with all the feedback I got on my vids but I think Made For This and Final Round were the least appreciated although I expected that because of the fandoms/subject matter.
Most fun video: Nothing super fun this year but it would be Ready or Not for the gay and Here In My Arms for the cute shippiness.
Video with single sexiest moment: Get Me Bodied is full of them tied with the kissing section in Made For This.
Biggest vid fail: Besides general laziness in getting vids done and having to race to the deadline, having a couple tech issues in All We Got really bothered me.
Hardest video to make: Made For This as not only did I have to get past my show issues, I struggled to match my vid's ambition and had limited time in getting it done by the deadline.
Most unintentionally telling video: Ready or Not.
For 2015: I'm working on about 6 different Festivids at the moment so it's high priority to get those done. I'd like to submit a vid to Vidukon or Wiscon but I'm determined to finish my Cristina/Meredith vid next year as well as one of my more ambitious vid ideas for Vividcon. I'd like to try to keep vidding an hour a day and work on improving my vidding techniques especially visual-wise.

It's the last day of the year so you know what means: meme time.
End of the Year Fandom Meme
What fandoms did you acquire in 2014?
How To Get Away With Murder, Hockey RPF (mostly Chicago Blackhawks RPF/Kane/Toews), Transparent, Luther, Soccer RPF (USA/German & Bayern Munich), Veep, Jane the Virgin, Broad City, Faking It, Maleficent, Nashville, American Ninja Warrior, Looking, The Americans, You're the Worst.
What fandoms did you let go of in 2014?
Once Upon a Time (too rage-y with stupid het ships/bad plots), The Blacklist, Modern Family (too many awards when the quality has decreased), The Big Bang Theory (not funny anymore plus too sexist), Downton Abbey and New Girl. Probably letting go of Masters of Sex as I'm bored with it now especially as my ship is gone.
What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2014? Why?
I started Deadwood and The X-Files but only made it through the beginning episodes of S1. I failed mostly on my planned fandoms because of lack of motivation and laziness mainly. That list would be Borgen, Political Animals, Boardwalk Empire, Rectify, Broadchurch and The Returned (and ohers I don't remember).
What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2015?
Keep going with Deadwood and The X-Files. Others I want to try: Penny Dreadful, The Leftovers, Rectify, Outlanders, The Good Wife (HTGAWM has inspired me to check out another lawyer show), Manhattan, possibly others but I make no promises.
What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2015 unless things significantly improve?
I've had moments where I've thought about quitting Brooklyn 99 because I don't like the het plots and I'm not finding it that funny but I like the characters enough and fandom's really into it so it's sticking around for now. Scanal might be out as well but I think it's just a show I need to binge and not watch every week.
What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
Game of Thrones (this was tested last season lol), How To Get Away With Murder, The Mindy Project, Transparent, Luther (unless Idris and Ruth leave the show), Nashville (because Connie Briton), Shameless.
What show impressed you most in 2014?
Transparent was incredible with beautiful characters who were all kinds of messed up, interesting family relationships, LGBT characters, amazing writing and acting and all around awesome show. I highly recommend it! Orange is the New Black was even better than S2 and I can't wait for S3 (Alexxxx!!!). Also The Mindy Project S2 finale was my favorite comedy episode of the year, just hilarious and romantic and perfect.
What show impressed you least in 2014?
Well shout out to Game of Thrones 403 to being the worst fucking book interpretation I've ever seen and completely ruined the show for me for a few months. Oh and HIMYM for being the WORST season finale I've ever seen and completely ruining the show forever for me. Ugh fuck that stupid show. Overall I have to go with Once Upon a Time because of the stupid het and plotting. Just give me my Swan Queen!
Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Better Call Saul for sure! Really excited about Empire too, that looks to have a lot of things I love. Also Galavant, Agent Carter (I'm done with any superhero shows/movies that don't STAR a woman/POC), Orange is the New Black S3, Mad Men&Glee&Parks series finales and iZombie because Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero (A Trip to the Dentist writer). Movie-wise: Inside Out, Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect 2, Entourage the movie, Sisters (Amy/Tina!!!), Furious 7. Sportswise excited for GERMANY VS USA: Round 2 featuring coach boyfriends Jürgen and Jogi, Gold Cup for USA, Bayern Munich in the Champions League, March Madness for SU and Stanley Cup Playoffs for Blackhawks.
It's going to be a weird year for TV and me. I'm going to be busy with college and other priorities so I don't want to watch things I don't like but I want to be better at watching quality shows and not just watching whatever I feel like. We'll see what happens.

Dear Festividder,
Thank you so much for making me a vid!!! I am sure I will love whatever you make so don't stress about it. I love all kinds of music so don't be afraid to choose any genre of music that fits the source for you. I also enjoy all kinds of vid genres from the shippy to character studies to meta to feels and everything in between. I'm fine with any rating and any content so have no fear about that.
Here are the fandoms I'm requesting with some details (and pictures/gifs) of what I love about them. Most of all, have fun and make a vid that you really love!

| Eurotrip 2013 Report |

I'm sorry I'm so late on finally reporting about my Europe trip last November as I started the first half of the report while in Europe but then procrastinated on writing it later until now when I couldn't put it off any longer. It's coming up on almost a year since my trip to Europe last November when I visited London, Ireland, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Brussels, Munich and other places in Europe. I wanted to write down as much as I can so in the future when I start forgetting more details, I could look back and remember from this report. I took a lot of pictures but am putting most of those on Facebook and it'll take too much time to upload them but if anyone who doesn't have me on there wants to see them, just ask. I don't expect most people to read all of this but feel free if you'd like :)
( Eurotrip 2013 ReportCollapse )
Overall I had an amazing trip and I'm so happy I had the oppurtunity to go to Europe and experience it for myself. I've wanted to see Europe and experience another part of the world for a long time and the trip was super helpful in helping me stop feel the intense wanderlust I had been feeling for 7 years or so even as it made me want to explore other countries as well as go back to Europe in the future. It was a learning experience for me to deal with being in unfamiliar countries with languages I didn't know and to have to get from one place to another by myself for a month. There was definitely some lonely moments and it helped make me realize I like traveling with other people for trips longer than a week but it also gave me a chance to reconnect with friends who live in other countries. It was super great to finally see so many big landmarks that I had seen in the media for years and get a chance to see them in person as well as falling in love with the city of Rome. Being away from everything and having so much alone time also helped me question what I want to do with my life and who I am and helped make me even more purposeful in wanting to leave a big career impact in the world. It gave me a stronger love of Europe that made it even easier for me to get into the World Cup this summer while at the same time giving me an appreciation for things I love about living in America. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience that changed my life and I'm glad I was finally able to travel the world and have an ultimately satisfying trip. If anyone else is thinking about traveling, I highly recommend it!

So I'm going to be attempting to post more in the next month and here's a vidding meme to help me with that...
Give me a number -- or a few! -- and I'll answer in a separate post.
1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-vid. 2. Is there a genre or style you've yet to try your hand at, but really want to? 3. Is there a genre or style you wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole? 4. How many vid ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them? 5. Share one of your strengths. 6. Share one of your weaknesses. 7. Point to a section from one of your favorite vids you've made and explain why you're proud of it. 8. Which vid was the hardest to make? 9. Which vid was the easiest to make? 10. Is vidding your passion or just a fun hobby? 11. Is there a section of canon above all others that inspires you just a little bit more? 12. What's the best vidding advice you've ever come across? 13. What's the worst vidding advice you've ever come across? 14. If you only could vid one show/movie for the rest of your life, which show/movie would it be? 15. Do you work mostly from start to finish, or do you vid sections out of order? 16. Do you use any tools, like clip notes or storyboards? 17. Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse? 18. Describe your perfect vidding conditions. 19. How many times do you usually revise your vid before posting? 20. Choose a section from one of your earlier vids and talk about whether and how you'd do it differently now. (Person sending the ask is free to make suggestions). 21. If you were to revise one of your older vids from start to finish, which would it be and why? 22. Have you ever deleted one of your published vids? 23. What do you look for in a beta? 24. Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you? 25. How do you feel about collaborations? 26. Share three of your favorite vidders and why you like them so much. 27. Do you accept prompts? 28. Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your vids being canon compliant? 29. How do you feel about smut? 30. How do you feel about crack? 31. Which is your favorite site for posting vids? 32. Talk about your current vids in progress. 33. Talk about a comment or review that made your day. 34. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?
Yay vidding!

At long last, here is my Vividcon 2014 Con Report :)
( Con Report under the cutCollapse )
Overall it was an absolutely amazing Vividcon and I had a wonderful time getting to see so many friends again as well as meet new ones. There's never enough time to get to talk to everyone for as long as I'd like but I like to think of all my Vividcon's put together as a way to get a chance to do that and I definitely was able to have some great conversation with various people. I was really inspired by some of the vids and the panels were full of interesting discussion that has made me even more determined to keep learning and growing to become a better vidder. When I got home, I started clipping for my Club Vivid vid next year and I'm already looking forward to making Escapade vids and festivids. The con is always super well run which as we've seen this year, is not a given and I love the balance between trying new things and sticking with so many great traditions that I deeply love. I missed a lot of people this year who couldn't make it but I'm so thankful for all the people who could come and made it such an amazing experience for me. I'm so happy to be a part of such an amazing vidding community and can't wait for next Vividcon!

Even though I'm not in school right now, the beginning of September always feels like a new beginning to me. It seems like a good time to share my plans for the rest of the year and the time to come as I finally have some ideas of what I want to do.
First a catchup of the last three months. In May, I went to a fun Ingrid Michaelson concert with beerbad and had a great time listening to some of my favorite songs. Mother's Day was pretty sad and I tried to avoid the media but eventually gave in and just scrolled through and watched some sad TV shows and cried some. One of the most fun things I did was go to Malibu State Park and go to this little pond (not sure what the right word is here) where they had cliff jumping rocks and I went to the highest one (about 30 feet) and jumped off of it. It was SO fun and I had been feeling kind of meh about the world and it gave me an adrenaline rush that made me feel happy and full of hope again. I just love feeling like I'm flying and being that high in the air, I really felt like I was in the air on the way down and it felt amazing. I also went to a fun Harry Potter roller skating event where there was a ton of people dressed up and they played Harry Potter songs and it was just really fun even though at the end the music was meh so I put on my headphones and listened to shippy songs for my favorite couples (mostly Kane/Toews). I went to a Memorial Day BBQ with other geeky/fannish type people and had fun playing Cards Against Humanity and talking various TV shows with people. I had a lot of fun going to see the Chicago Blackhawks play the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center in my first live hockey game and I was lucky enough to see it with celli and get to see Toews score a goal right in front of me. celli and I had a lot of fun talking hockey and various real life stuff after the game and it was fun getting a chance to get to know her better. I also went to see a screening of the Mindy Project season finale and got to see a cast Q&A and later got to meet Mindy Kaling for the fourth time - and she remembered who I was for the third time ever. It was pretty cool and she even took a selfie of her and me. I also went to my second cousin's bridal shower and got to catch up with that side of my family and got to see my grandma's sister as well which was nice and I'm looking forward to going to his wedding in November.
In June, I spent a lot of time finishing my Femslash Premiere and my Premieres vid for Vividcon which was a bit stressful but I was ultimately able to finish by the deadline. I was also following the NBA draft and super happy when my favorite player, Tyler Ennis was selected 18th in the draft and another Syracuse player, Jerami Grant went to the Philadelphia 76ers which has a Syracuse player, Michael Carter-Williams who just won Rookie of the Year and who I slash with his friend on the team, Nerlens Noel so I'm looking forward to OT3ing them together. I also started watching the World Cup, following it seriously for the first time ever and fell in love with the USA team, most of all the coach, Jurgen Klinsmann. Jurgen who was a big star in Europe who won the World Cup with Germany in 1990, coached the German team to a 3rd place finish in 2006 (in Germany) but who loves the USA and lives there with his family so he decided to coach the USA team in 2011 and is attempting to turn the team around so it can eventually win the World Cup with the men's team. I really love what he's trying to do and his personality and I have a lot of hope that he can help us win it all so I began to follow the US team and was in ecstasy after we beat Ghana and went to a USA bar for the Portugal game with cenedrawood and was SO HAPPY when USA came back from a 0-1 deficit to be winning 2-1...only to lose in the last thirty seconds in one of the most heartbreaking sports moments ever for me. Thankfully we still had another game against Germany where Jurgen was coaching against his friend, Joachim Löm (who was his assistant coach when he coached Germany) and since I ship them together (thanks to caesaria), it was an entertaining game for me if terrifying. We lost by one but were still able to make it out of the group stages where we played Belgium which I don't even want to talk about because I'm still super bitter and prefer to think about how Tim Howard made 15 saves and Julian Green scored a goal on his first touch even though he's only 19 years old and was another young player that people complained about being on the roster and yet was one of the many players to prove that Jurgen knew what he was doing cause he's an amazing coach <3 Anyways, I started out rooting for Brazil (because they were at home, it meant a lot to them and they spent so much money at least they could get SOMETHING out of it), Germany, England, Italy and I also added the Netherlands after I saw their first game against Spain and enjoyed watching Robben and van Persie play. Eventually Germany and Netherlands were my favorite teams as after watching a documentary about the 2006 German team and falling in love with Robben as a player I wish I could be like, I emotionally connected with them, plus it helped that both teams did super well.
In July, I was really into basketball as the NBA summer league started and all the new rookies, 2nd year players and undrafted players trying to get a spot on rosters were playing and I watched the 76ers team do well in Orlando with my guy, Jerami Grant. The major summer league was in Las Vegas though and I decided to go to Vegas, buy tickets for the games (they're cheap) and let out my basketball feelings while trying to meet some of my favorite Syracuse players since many of them were going to be there. I had an amazing time, getting autographs and talking to Tyler Ennis, Rakeem Christmas (current SU player), Jerami Grant, Michael Carter-Williams, Baye Moussa Keita and Brandon Triche (former SU players) as well as watching a ton of players play for their teams. Unfortunately my car had some issues so I stayed longer than I wanted to but I also had fun hanging out with n0apologies (twitter) who I had met at Wincon and we had a great time talking about our lives, Adam Lambert, Queer as Folk and other fannish topics. I was also there duing the World Cup final and went to a bar to watch Germany play Argentina where thankfully Germany won and I was SO HAPPY as Jogi Low and the team had come soooo close to winning in the last 8 years and always came up a little short so I was super happy for the team to finally win it all and I just had such a fun time celebrating, happy crying and joining in the celebrations at the German bar.
Finally I got back to LA and had fun going to elipie's karaoke birthday party and then going to a Lady GaGa concert with her where we won free seat upgrades and got to hang in the VIP lounge with free drinks and hang out with hot half-naked boys while we could easily see Lady GaGa especially when she came over to the platform right above us. It was super fun getting to hear her sing some of her classic songs and she's an amazing performer so we had a fun time singing her songs and enjoying the performance. At the end of July, I went back home to Syracuse where I spent some time with my dad, caught up with my best friend and hung out with my cats at home. I also drove down to Pennsylvania to visit my cousin's family and spend some time with my aunt. My cousin is starting her own business so I spent a little bit of time at her shop and we also went with her family and my aunt to one of my favorite amusement parks where we used to go almost every year as a kid so it was very nostalgic to be back there again. Speaking of nostalgia, I also went to visit my childhood elementary school and was bummed to see they tore down the playground I had loved although they are building a new one, it's not the same. After that, I went to Vividcon which I'll talk about in a different post but the Wednesday after that, I had an amazing time going to Six Flags Magic Mountain with elipie getting a chance to talk about Vividcon, new vidding ideas and other fannish stuff.
This summer I had planned on taking some courses related to college admission counseling but after a couple of days trying to take them, I realized my heart wasn't in them as I wasn't sure yet whether that's what I wanted to do as it might not be big enough for me career-wise. Thankfully I was able to get a full refund and another thing that affected my decision was a revelation I had thought of while reading books about colleges. I kept having regrets while reading on how I wish I had gotten a true college experience and had gone to a more intellectual school when I realized - I could still do that. There was a college I had first heard about in high school called St. John's College that covered in four years, many of the so called Great Books but without lectures, it's all discussion based or laboratory based as they cover science using classic experiments and original texts for everything. Two of the most interesting aspects is learning Ancient Greek and learning math from classic books like Euclid's Elements which I've always wanted to do to understand more of where the English language comes from and understand the basis of math which I've always though could be interesting in the right context. The college is pretty intense but that's exactly what I want, a place where people want to read and think about some of life's biggest questions by reading some of the most enduring books many of which I've always wanted to read and just needed some more structure and people to discuss them with. I feel like my intellectual development has been pretty stunted the last seven years and I know I need to take a big leap to become the person I've always wanted to be and this college is the perfect way to take my communication skills both written and oral to the next level. I am an ambitious person and I have big dreams of doing things to change the world but I need to build a strong foundation so that I can accomplish that so I think I need to take a risk to go to this college and become the person I want to be.
During the summer I started working on my application which consists of three essays talking about why I want to go to the college, a book that has influenced me and a significant experience that has left an impact on me and I'm working on finishing that up by the end of this month. The college has a January program that I'm looking to get accepted at where by going to school over the summer, I'll be all caught up with the freshman year program and will be a regular sophomore by the time next September comes around (but thankfully I will get a summer vacation right before the first potential Vividcon weekend). The college gives good financial aid so I'm not too worried about the money aspect, the bigger opportunity cost for me is the time but I think the education I'm getting will be worth it and I'll be doing part time jobs, volunteer work and internships during the school years and summer to help me figure out the best work for me to do after college and I always have a backup job as a programmer as well. One of the biggest negatives is the college is in Santa Fe and although the weather is not too much colder than LA (averaging 45-85 plus like 6 snow days blech), it'll still be a big adjustment leaving the city (and friends!) I love to be in a much smaller city with less things to do (although Albuquerque is only 45 minutes away and Denver/Phoenix are semi-close too). But I think it's worth it for this oppurtunity that I can't get anywhere else and I feel like I'll always regret it and wonder what if, if I decided not to do go. Plus I'll definitely be visiting LA during breaks, Escapade and during my free summers so I think I'll be able to survive. Another concern is the book list is not that diverse but I know there are book groups there that cover more classic books written by women, minorities and Eastern writers so I'll be sure to be reading them. Something I'm excited about is they have a lot of sports intramurals so I'll still be able to play soccer, tennis and there's lots of nature for hiking and even rock climbing. Most importantly, I'll finally get to have a true college experience and make lots of new friends as even though the college is small, people are very self-selected towards the kind of people I tend to get along with (minus your obligatory pretentious arrogant idiots) so I'm looking forward to that. It'll be a big life change for me but I think this is the best step I can make in working on becoming who I want to be and for my development to being able to help the world solve the major problems we're facing.
I originally was applying for this fall semester but I was having a hard time being ready for that so I decided to wait til January although I have a plan for what I will be doing in LA until then. A friend recommended to me a friend of hers who has a philosophy PHD and is willing to meet with me to go over classic texts that I want to start reading this fall so I can have some accountability and someone to discuss things with to prepare me for St. John's College. I'm planning on working on doing more reading (besides fanfic of course) this fall as I sample many books from nonfiction to fiction in many genres. I'm going to be focusing especially about reading books about California and LA as I want to work on solving problems in the state and want to become more knowledgeable about the issues surrounding the state. I also am going to be doing some volunteering with various organizations to learn more about LA and start figuring out what exactly I would enjoy doing for jobs. I also have a part time job I'll be working on to earn some extra money. Another big goal of mine for this fall is to start seriously trying to date while I still have time in LA which should hopefully give me more motivation to do it. I'm also continuing to work on improving my Spanish through Duolingo and translating Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone from Spanish to English using my Kindle App Spanish to English dictionary. And I definitely want to spend more time with my friends in Los Angeles while I'm still here.
Another big focus for me this fall is heath and fitness as I'd like to lose about 15-20 pounds before the end of this year. I signed up for an accountability type service which has been good with keeping me on track with my eating and exercise goals. Something inspiring for me was watching Kacey Cantanzaro complete the city finals course for American Ninja Warrior, an obstacle course competition where participants can win 500k for winning the finals course in Las Vegas. That inspired me to look into parkour and rock climbing which are two training aspects that some of the best competitors do. I figured that even if I don't make it, it'd be a fun goal to try to train for the course as it looks really fun and it's something that anyone can accomplish even if they don't have a lot of training when they were younger (unlike most sports). Thankfully there is a parkour (more accurately, freerunning) gym in the LA area and I've already taken two beginner lessons there and had fun practicing in the opening gym sessions. So far it's pretty basic, working on vaulting over objects and precision jumping, jumping from one ledge to another but it's been really fun and a great workout and I look forward to being able to do the crazy workouts I see in the gym. I was super scared about doing a flip from the high ledge into the pit (filled with soft foam stuff) but finally managed to gather my courage and did as well as do some flips on the trampoline. I also attempted to run up the warped wall they have in the gym and tried to jump from one bar to another (not there yet). I've also been into soccer as I really enjoy team sports so I signed up for a three days a week soccer class at my local community college and although it's a bit intimidating as it's all guys except one other girl and many of them want to compete on the soccer team at the college, so far I've been having fun playing (minus getting blisters on my feet from my new cleats). I even scored a goal during a game! We've been mostly just playing games which was a bit disappointing as I hoped to practice some skills work as well but it's been fun and I've been learning a lot even if it's been pretty hot playing during the summer. I've also been keeping up with my strength training workouts since March and been continually adding more weight to my lifts. Food is always tough for me as I hate cooking and love delicious food but I've been making a lot of progress and have lost three pounds so far.
I can't wait for the new TV season! I've been watching some of the trailers for the new shows and have added a few shows that I'm going to check out this fall. While A to Z has a couple of annoying things about it, it also features the Mother from HIMYM and as soul destroying it is seeing her, the show looks really cute and right up my romantic loving alley with the whole matchmaking element. I'm also excited for How to Get Away With Murder as Viola Davis looks amazing in it, the premise sounds fun and deliciously messed up and I will always trust Shonda Rhimes to do crazy things. I'm also going to check out Utopia which fascinates me as I've always loved thinking about how to create the perfect society although the reality show format makes me keep my expectations down. I am also looking forward to checking out Survivor's Remorse which is about a BASKETBALL PLAYER (!!!) who becomes successful and must deal with everything that comes with it which sounds super fun for me to vicariously see that side of things and is produced by Lebron James (who I've come to not hate since he went back to Cleveland) so I'm very curious to check it out. I kind of wish I could watch The Flash because the lead actor is a guy I found SUPER hot on Glee (Sebastian!) but I've sworn off all superhero shows unless it features a female/PoC lead so I'll just be checking out Agent Carter. Mostly I'm going to be listening to friends and critics to see if there are any high quality shows I should check out. I'm really looking forward to The Mindy Project, Faking It and Scandal coming back especially the first two as they feature two of my favorite ships. I'm mostly planning on using the fall to continue to catch up with some well written shows I haven't watched yet including Deadwood which I MUST finish by the end of the year. On the movie side of things, this summer I LOVED Maleficent (Maleficent/Aurora all the way!), enjoyed X-Men: Days of Future Past and am looking forward to seeing The Hunger Games 3, The Hobbit 3 and Annie (love the trailer!). On the sports side of things, my new soccer team is Bayern Munich since they have my favorite player, Arjen Robben, lots of German players from the national team like Müller, Neuer and Götze and my fave USA guy, Julian Green (although he's on loan to Hamburg this year) so I already have an emotional investment in them and will be watching all their games. I'm casually following the English Premier League (mostly for my USA/Germany people) and some college football as well and will be checking out my usual NFL teams this fall (although I'm still super bitter there's no LA team) such as the Bills, 49ers, Giants, Chargers and Jets. We'll see timewise what happens as once NBA seasons starts in late October and Syracuse basketball in November, most of my attention will go to that because YAY BASKETBALL. Hockey will be back in October as well and I will check out some Chicago games sometimes.
Super excited for Festivids! I have about 6 possible nominations at the moment although I worry about qualification for a couple of them but I'm excited about them and the vid ideas I want to make already. Before I get my assignment though, I need to start working on my Escapade vid as that's going to require a time committment and I have another vid idea I want to make for next year that I need to get started on clipping right now to get it done in time for VVC. I have another vid that's almost done that I should hopefully post in the next week as well. I have a couple ideas that require me to stretch my skills that I'm really excited about even if it'll be a challenge, it should be fun to do. Other fun fandom-y things coming up is a bunch of NorCal (and elsewhere) fangirls are planning a Fandom Beach Vacation where we rent a beach house and just hang out all day and I'm so excited to hang out with my fandom friends in November :) I also need to plan out what to do for my birthday in October this year, I have an idea and need to check if it's realistic. I still can't believe I'm going to be 27...is that officially late 20s? Eek. But hopefully with all the plans I have in place, I'll be ready to enjoy this time in my life shortly!

Here are my vid review and challenge review notes from Vividcon 2014, apologies for the lateness. I was one of the mods for In Depth Vid Review so I wasn't able to take notes but you can find some notes here and here. I did my best at hearing and typing as accurately as I could but sometimes people had quiet voices or I couldn't type fast enough so these are not perfect transcriptions especially as they are not completely proofread. If you see something and want it corrected (or credit), feel free to let me know as I'd love for it to be more accurate.

| New vid: Right Now (Game of Thrones) |

Title: Right Now Music: "Right Now" by Rihanna (ft. David Guetta) Fandom: Game of Thrones S1-4 Focus: Arya Stark & Brienne of Tarth Summary: All we got is right now. Content Notes: Fast cuts, brief shots of gore. Notes: Premiered at Club Vivid. Download Link: Right Now (74 MB MP4) AO3 | Tumblr
I originally had two Club Vivid ideas I was going to do but unfortunately ran out of time to make either but still wanted to make a Game of Thrones vid for Premieres. I heard this song and really wanted to vid the EDM sections to Arya and Brienne sword fighting so I decided to make this vid featuring them. They are two of my favorite characters on the show (Arya is my faaaave) and I knew it would be a lot of fun to vid them. I had to edit the song to get only my favorite parts of the source and song in it and it was super fun to find the parallels between Arya and Brienne when they were fighting so I could vid them together. Plus it allowed me to have a great reason to cosplay as Arya at Club Vivid :)
