Christmas

This was a very different Christmas. Tim and I both got Covid. We went out to dinner at Hug Hes Cafe for his birthday and then the next evening we both started to get a sore throat. Sunday we felt fine, and then Monday started getting sick again. By Thursday we were both totally sick. I got tested and it was positive. We lost our sense of smell and taste. I got it a little worse because I had a fever for several days, and it lasted a little longer, but overall it really wasn't terrible.

I wish I hadn't been tested though, because when the school found out they made my pull the kids. So they missed to two days before winter break and they were in tears over it. We decided to make the best of the situation and took them skiing since they couldn't go to school. There was only one run open, so the lift line was long, but it was fun.

We really missed going to Grandma and Grandpa's Christmas party. That's one of our very favorite traditions. But with Grandpa's lukemia, they are being very careful. We did get to go to Pop's for Christmas Eve and do all the traditional things. Mexican food, acting out the nativity, reading the night before Christmas and opening gifts. Kelson and Lexie were here from Dallas with their little 18 month old Luke. He is so busy!

I gave the kids all some meletonin and they went right to sleep when we got home. It was the easiest Christmas set up we have had in a long time and we were in bed before 10:30. Of course the kids made up for that by getting up by 5:00 AM!

Christmas day was perfect. Everyone was happy with their gifts and the kids all played nicely together all day. It really was wonderful. We got a few visitors and had a nice ham dinner. I love Christmas.

Buster's Birthday

My sweet Eric just turned 6. To say that he is a joy feels like a huge understatement. He just came over to me and pulled a funny face and asked, "Hey Mom, does this look like the Grinch's smile?" All his nightmares are about the Grinch. He goes around singing/humming to himself and giggling all day. It is so easy to make him laugh. He is nearly always happy and in a great mood. He's easy to please. Everyone likes spending time with him.

Bus is my little cuddle monster. He loves cuddles and kisses and he's always asking for more. I want to savor every single little kiss, every hug, every giggle. He is in kindergarten this year and he's doing so well. He's smart and he's reading really well. He loves having Dad quiz him on math facts. I dread the day he goes to school all day and I don't get all this one on one time with him.

He loves board games. We play Monopoly, match, Dweebies, Go Fish, or some other game every morning. He does not like to leave the house. Not to go to a friend's house, not to get food, and especially not to a junk house and watch me work. He does love bike rides.

Tim tells me about a hundred times a day to, "Look at his...(little lips, cute face, etc...)" He's so great. Just so amazing.

For his birthday he wanted to go to the trampoline park and then out to eat. He settled with playing at a flip house most of the day with his brother and sisters and then going out to eat. He couldn't decide where to eat and just wanted to make everyone happy. Brielle had her heart set on Chuch A Rama and he was happy to make her day. Then some family came over so cousins could play and have cake and ice cream. He got legos, a remote control car, Skull King game and cash, and some dollar store toys from his siblings. He had a great day.

Halloween 2020

It has been interesting to see how things have played out since Covid hit earlier this year. It is a main topic of conversation and has affected nearly every aspect of our lives. We weren't sure what Halloween would look like this year. There were plenty of humbugs saying it was irresponsible to even have it. But more reasonable minds prevailed and even though it looked a little different (plenty of candy was sent through tubes or left on tables to social distance) we had a great time!

First Day of School

They're going back! There was a lot of concern and confusion about what this school year would look like, if it would even happen. But it's happening and they are so excited. And really the only major change is that they have to wear masks every day. That would drive me crazy but I don't think they really mind. They're just happy to see their friends again and get back to some normalcy.

Bus is starting Kindergarten this year, which means he started a week later than everyone else. I'm glad it is only half days because I'm not ready to give up my one on one time with him yet. He's ready though!

Summer 2020

I wish I had written posts after all the fun things we did this summer, because it was a great one. So much good family time. The since Covid turned everything upside down has actually been a pretty special time to spend with our kids without as many distractions. I know it has been a scary and frustrating time for a lot of people, but I think I'll look back at this time and remember a lot of happiness.
