The thriving games ecosystem in northern Sweden

From 30 January to 1 February, the Arctic Game Global Game Jam 2026 brought together around 50 game developers, designers, artists, and storytellers in Skellefteå for an intensive weekend of creativity and collaboration. Organised by Arctic Game for the third year in a row, the event challenged participants to create playable game prototypes in just 48 hours.

The Arctic Game Incubator has officially kicked off in Skellefteå – an important initiative aimed at strengthening the region’s growing game industry. Over the coming months, participating teams will receive support from industry experts, mentors, and the regional ecosystem, all working together to provide the best possible conditions for development and growth.

Skellefteå Science City has taken an important step in strengthening international cooperation in the European games sector by helping create The League – a new collaboration network for game hubs and support organisations across Europe.
