When practicing taking field notes it is recommended to practice recalling events you witnessed previously. Sometimes when you are in the field you do not have the time to record everything right away, so being able to recall things later is a necessary skill.
For today's practice I attempt to recall some of the details from when I was standing in line waiting to enter Zepp Diver City to see Hatsune Miku's Thunderbolt 2023 tour. I had already decided before leaving the house that day that I would try and use this as a chance to practice my field note taking skills. If it hadn't of been raining I would of taken the field notes while I waited, but it wasn't possible. Thus this has become a good chance to practice my recollection skills.

Two tall, three small. Feeling even smaller than usual, their voice changes. Squeeky and babyish like a kindergartener. Trying to be cute. Time to play Simon says, they stand up and the tall ones tower over them. They listen carefully to his instructions and try their best to win. The voice levels rise as everyone begins to enjoy themselves. They stare up at the tall ones with stars in their eyes. Obviously excited to play with someone new. They focus and listen, determined to not lose. After the tall ones, the small ones take turns giving the orders. Big smiles even behind masks. Sparkling eyes. Next they play a rhythm game. Clapping and snapping, following the tall ones. Again focused and eager to play. They can't be fooled easily. The tall ones look nervous but small smiles can be seen behind their masks, as the small ones laugh and jump around. Having fun together for the first time. Making memories of a special day that they will surely remember.
Music playing on the board. Jumping on one foot then the other. Stopping and pointing, hoping to get the Pokemon they want. Back to jumping, chatting all at the same time about their favorites. Jumping turns to arguing. What they're saying isn't clear, but Pokemon names can be heard. Back to jumping, who will win? Happy about the result of Charizard. Cheering, hands up, ready to move onto the next.
I decided to start this blog because I am beginning to practice taking field notes. I thought it would be fun and interesting to record my observations in a blog format. I wish I had thought to start a blog at the beginning of my PhD journey, then I would be able to see just how much things have changed from the first semester until graduation. However, it didn't occur to me until I began recording my practice field notes. I used to have Live Journal in college, so when searching for a place to start my blog I decided to go the nostalgic route. Something simple where I can record my journey as a researcher and academic writer. I am excited to chronicle my journey from now until the dissertation defense.
