My opinion on Arizona SB1070 [Jul. 30th, 2010|08:08 am]
Bob Allen
Well, since people, (Hello to my friends from ASP and You Served!) have asked me what my opinion is on SB1070, I thought I'd post it.

The law is wrong, and should be struck down. But not for the reasons you may think. Let me explain.

Immigration is solely the purview of the Federal Government, not the State Government. The bill is unlawful on its face. It has the right reasoning behind it, but is unlawful. I expect it will eventually be struck down by the Supreme Court.

Immigration is a major problem. One that the Federal Government has botched. But that doesn't give State Governments the right to take it over. The Federal Government must step up and do what it is supposed to be doing. But them, Immigration Law in this country has been a world wide joke for the last 60 years.

And excellent overview was done by the Cornell University Law School at: http://topics.law.cornell.edu/wex/immigration

I believe it was written before SB1070, as it does not mention this law at all. But it still is an excellent article.

Another guild posting [Jul. 29th, 2010|07:29 pm]
Bob Allen
Well, two months has come and gone since I was given the guild. And there have been some up and downs.

First, I want to thank everyone who has helped me get through some personal issues. To those people, I am grateful.

Now, as to the 600 pound gorilla in the room. Raiding.

In the beginning, I said one thing. I am not the raid leader. Moseisley is. That is because I suck at it. I recognize my weakness there, so I let someone who is good at it do the job. For me to be the raid leader would send the guild's raiding spiraling down a hole from which it would never return.

When this all started, I told Mose he had a free hand. To run the raids as he saw fit. To even replace me, if he felt it needed to be done.

None of this has changed.

So, here we are, two months later, no Kingslayer titles yet, and people bitching and moaning to me.

Stop it. Now.

Everybody was told what the deal was when we started. And everybody accepted it. So now you have to deal with it. So shut up and deal, or don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. If you were removed from Group 1 or group 2, there was a reason. Ask the reason, and fix it. You'd be surprised how fast you'd be back in if you did.

As far as raid schedule goes, they center on 2 things: The raid leader's schedule and the MAJORITY of the raid. Not ALL of the raid, the MAJORITY of it. So if you can't be there for the raid, join another raid group. For God's sake, we have over 60 level 80's in this guild, with more coming every day you should be able to raid with someone.

Cataclysm is coming soon. Start getting ready. Stock up on gold. You're going to need it, big time. And be thankful we don't have to pay for Old World Flying.

For Victory or Valhalla [Jun. 8th, 2010|04:43 am]

This post is only directed at my VoV people.

As you all may or may not know, the guild has gone through some massive changes in the last 2 weeks. Some people have gone on breaks. Some have left the guild. A huge amount have joined the guild. This post is to explain it all.

I was given the guild two weeks ago. For the first two days, I was in shock. The next two, I dropped into despair. Because I took a good long look at the guild. And I saw the problem.

The guild was dying. And I would be either selling off the guild name or just using it as a personal bank within 2 months. And I couldn't see any way of stopping it.

Then, the Gift from the Game Gods dropped into my lap.

Moseisley came to me, and presented an idea. He had a HUGE list of raiders, ready to go. He knew what he was doing, and he had a plan. He was actually thinking of making his own guild and doing a little recruiting from us, but that wasn't fair. He knew I was a little frazzled, and he saw we had potential if we could get out of our funk. After several very long conversations, I made my decision. I made Mose Raid Leader, and promoted several other members. I also changed a rank. I got rid of the Officer Alt rank, making all Alt belonging to Officer actually Officer rank (I never liked Officer Alt anyways. The person is the officer, not the character) and I created the High Council rank. This rank is for people who have been with the guild for a long time, and were already officers. People like Funeral, Rytes, Am, Kara.

There are a few new policies as well. Like the inactive demotion. If you're inactive for 7 days without saying anything to us, you lose a rank. And so on, until its finally a gkick. Now, ALL of those can be restored after a return and an explanation. Alts are NOT subject to this, unless its a gkick. If you're going to be away for any length of time, just tell us. We'll put a no gkick note on your officer notes, and you'll be good.

With all of these changes, some good has already spawned. We now have 3, and maybe even 4, 10 man teams. And a 25 man team. We expect Kingslayer titles on 10 and 25 man by the end of June. And we're getting ready for Cataclysm. We have some really good guild synergy, with everyone excited for the future.

So, there you have it. Hate it or Love it. But that's the way it is now.

(Comments are off, or should be.)

My plan for ending illegal immigration [May. 21st, 2010|08:36 pm]
Bob Allen
Yes, I do have a plan. But I doubt many people are going to like it.

1. Lock down the borders. Finish the fence and build another one on the Northern border as well.

2. Any illegal aliens left have 1 year to report to special immigration centers.

3. They will be assessed a large fine, say 10k. This fine can be paid off in cash or community service. With community service being the prefered payment.

4. They are put on the road towards citizenship, with limited right. They can not apply for any government programs, such as unemployment, welfare, food stamps, etc. Eventually, they will become citizens.

5. Any further illegal alients are put in special detention areas for 5 years, on work gangs doing community service projects as needed, then deported. With no parole or time off possible.

Now, legal immigrants should be rewarded. And here's how you do them.

Current legal immigrants are credited with 2 years for every year they have been in the United States. This credit is cumulative from this day forward as well as any back time.

Any immigrant with more than 6 years or more in the United States, who has met all of the other requirements, may immediately take their citizenship test.

The law is changed to allow current immigrants to become citizens in 7 years instead of 13. This law goes into effect 7 years after the plan begins.

Now, there is one sore spot. children. And I have a plan for them as well.

Children are not responsible for their parent's actions. Therefore they will be either placed with a relative and granted legal immigration status, or placed in foster care with legal immigration status. The parents lose ALL legal rights to the children, and can NEVER regain them.

Memories... [May. 8th, 2010|03:04 pm]
Bob Allen
Tomorrow is Mothers day. I want to tell you about someone. Someone who was.... remarkable.

She was born during the War on September 4, 1942. Her Father, Howard, would be sent over to fight in Europe before her 2nd birthday, while her Mother, Louise, stayed home.

About 5 years later, a sister, Pat, came along.

They were not rich. But neither were they poor. They were working middle class. Her father worked in a small factory for many years.

When she was 16, she was involved in an accident which left her bedridden and nearly paralyzed for an entire year. Eventually, she went on to graduate High School, and she married her childhood sweetheart.

(This is where I come into the picture.)

After her injury, she was told never to have any children by her doctors. She ignored their advice, and had two very healthy boys. One in 1965, the other 2 years later in 1967. She and her husband were quite liberal with their boys. Yes, they were stern when needed, and when really needed, not afraid to give them a good spanking. But unlike so many of their generation, they never beat their kids.

I forget exactly what year it was, but when her oldest was around 12 or so, she suffered another injury. Originally diagnosed as some strained ligament, she had actually broken her knee. This injury would plague her for the rest of her life. For years she walked with a cane, and later in life, she had to use a wheelchair.

Something she was well known for was being everybody's mother. Every wayward kid their sons brought home, they called her Mom. And she treated them just as equally as her own sons. Over the years, the kids came and went, but a select few stayed around. They had really become her sons in all but the legal sense.

Years later, she was confined to a wheelchair, but this never phased her. She looked at it as a way to get around better. And she got around fine. She even helped raise her two grandchildren. Including one that was quite autistic. There was always room in the house for any of the kids who needed to move in for a while to get back on their feet.

She went out to take one of the grandkids home after visiting for the summer, and when she came home, she discovered she had a bladder infection. Then she fell, severely spraining her hip. These two things put her in the hospital and a rehab center from the end of August until almost Thanksgiving. But she was home. In pain, but home. Then, the first week of December, she developed a blood clot. One that caused her to lose most of her right leg. The bad one. But, she still had a great outlook. They were even discussing hip replacement surgery (for arthritis) and a prosthesis. She went into a different rehab center afterwards.

Christmas came. And Christmas night, the infection came back with a vengence. Still, she had a great outlook. She wanted to be home before the end of January. But the infection wouldn't go down. It ripped through her body. The end of January, the decision was made for Hospice care, and she passed away very early on February 3rd.

Her name was Mary Louise Allen. And she was my Mom.

Call your Mom on Mother's Day. Estranged or not, call her. Let her know how much you love her. Before the only thing you can do is buy flowers and remember.

Ok, a few more details.

The doctors could not stop the infections. They even shotgun'd her, and it did nothing. They were going to give her a transfusion today, but when they got the test results back, they canceled it.

The infections have spread throughout her body. And they can't do anything about it. She's semi-conscious now. All she does is toss and turn. She's on oxygen, but not a full respirator. I suspect that was my dad's doing. He probably did a DNR/NHM order for her. (Do Not Resuscitate / No Heroic Measures)

It will be sometime today. For a long time my Dad and I didn't talk much. We weren't estranged or anything. We just didn't talk. But I was always very close with my Mom. I can't describe the pain I'm in. I knew this would eventually happen. I knew that. But not like this. They just retired 6 months ago.

All because of a dirty motel bathroom.

Never ever stay at Knight's Inn. Ever.

More bad Kharma [Sep. 23rd, 2009|04:41 am]
Bob Allen
[mood |worriedworried]

My car was stolen early Monday morning. I didn't find out until Monday afternoon. When I called in, it had already been recovered.

The damage isn't that bad. There's a dent and white scrape on the passenger side, which I could care about.

The door handle on the driver's side is popped. I can't open the door from the outside. I think Dad and I will take the inside of the door out tomorrow, and see what it needs. It may just need reseating, or it may need replacing. We'll know tomorrow.

Who did I screw over so badly to get this kind of bad Kharma? Did I kill someone's dog or something?

To sleep, perchance to dream... [Sep. 19th, 2009|08:17 am]
Bob Allen
I know, suckass quote, but it conveys how I feel right now. Sleepy.

Mary is fine. The tumor is benign. Its about the size of a small pickle chip, and not in a dangerous spot. The brain area around it is pretty quiet. So sometime after the holidays, they're gonna go in and take it right out. No fuss, no muss, 3-4 days in the hospital and home again.

And I finally slept more than an hour at a time. Think I'll be going back to sleep a little later. Missed alot of it this week. I can stop worrying now.
