Week 3 of the Stuff I Love challenge!! 💞

This week's theme is music. I did a similar top 10 music list during the last Snowflake Challenge, so I think this time I should put some sort of restriction... so here we have top 10 covers by Hololive and Holostars members.

For those unfamiliar, Hololive Production is virtual YouTuber (Vtuber) company. Vtubers are basically content creators who use a virtual avatar—typically live 2D or 3D, using face/motion tracking—to present themselves. Hololive Production members (or talents, as they're sometimes called) usually stream video games, make both original and cover music, and sometimes perform as idols, among other activities. They're separated into subgroups, but the main ones are Hololive, which is composed of female talents, and Holostars which houses the male talents.

I don't frequently watch live streams unless it's a concert or karaoke stream—most of the vtuber content I engage with are through clips, but I'm always game for cover songs. A lot of vtubers (especially Japanese ones) actually started out or have some background as an utaite (JP cover artist), which I also loved listening to many years ago. I love them for both their aesthetically pleasing music videos (even if sometimes it's just png recycling lyric videos due to budget constraints) and for whatever spin the cover artists or arrangers can put into the song to make it their own.

I just got my Candy Hearts Exchange gift fic 🥰 It is a TodoDeku fic where Todoroki takes care of his niece (Natsuo's baby) and Deku is like... hmm, he would make a great dad, actually. 

It is aptly named 'baby fever'; 944 words, rated G :)

I love it so so much, I actually forgot just how many ships I put into my MHA request and it's nice to see what the author ran with :"D Huge fan of characters seeing their significant other be good around kids and have that observation morph into the whole "I wanna start a family" kinda deal. Finally found out why my Procreate time lapse videos look terrible sometimes. They're set to 1080p "good" quality by default, but my canvases are larger than the 1920x1080, so my art gets scaled down during replay. Also, since the quality is just "good" (as opposed to the highest quality, lossless) some brushes (usually textured ones) look super rough in the video playback, and adding noise or some other texture on top of the canvas makes it look super crunchy.

Of course, I had to realize this after I've spent a total of 14 hours drawing something, when I can't retroactively fix the video quality. :( Noooo...

The lesson of the story is to fix the video quality when creating a new file/canvas preset. I honestly don't know why I spent months thinking, "Oh the time lapse feature really is just like that, it's probably an app limitation." I only bothered to check now because the way it shat all over the piece I just drew was beyond ridiculous.

Summary: Momoko is a high schooler who loves Rococo and lolita fashion. She moves to a rural town called Shimotsuma after her father gets into trouble for selling counterfeit clothes. There, she meets a female biker gang (bōsōzoku) member named Ichiko, and the two develop an unlikely friendship.

I rewatched Kamikaze Girls after many years. I remember watching it for the first time when I was around 14 and blogging about it, but that blog seems to have been wiped from the internet for some reason.

Coming-of-age stories seem to hit me a lot harder when I rewatch them as an adult. I think it's because of the nostalgia, coupled with the feeling of knowing that everything will turn out okay.

Yapping about the movie below; CWs: spoilers for the movie (of course) + some screencaps + some social commentary on the bōsōzoku sub-culture and its roots in nationalistic/right-wing ideology.

Totally fell off the Snowflake Challenge halfway through, but I'll be trying to participate in this month's 'Stuff I Love' challenge by dreamersdare :)

This week's theme/prompt is standalone media. I tried to think about it for a bit, but I realized that a lot of the things I like are inevitably sequels, or were created for the intention of turning into a sequel. Honestly, the definition of 'standalone' is a bit confusing to me. Is something that's adapted from a different medium a standalone, even if it has no sequel? Or does that not count?

Here, you'll find 8 movies, and 2 animes. In some cases, I have stretched the definition of 'standalone' to something that's more convenient for me. The challenge said this isn't meant to be a rec list, but rather for me to squee. I tried my best, but the idea of this being seen by others + the fact that I don't have the proper vocabulary to actually express what I specifically liked in something means that this will still subconsciously pan out like a rec list.

Without further ado, in no particular order:

I'm trying to extend my paid time for another month but when I try to load the shop on mobile, it just gives me a blank/white page and tries to download a .txt file called "__setdomsess.txt" (image). Cool, totally not sketchy as fuck 😭

I will try it via desktop later but I found the behavior strange & wanted to know if other people are having this issue or if it's just me @_@

Edit (15 hours after originally posting): Seems like it's fixed now! I was able to extend my paid time via desktop :)

I don't know how to use screentones LMAO this is my first time. This wasn't intended to be super serious so I also just used my sketch as the lineart orz Pompompurin's so cute, though... Sanrio needs to get on that collab, stat.

Holy fucking shit, i-dle just said "gay rights!" This is my 'never kill yourself' moment. The same way I gasped when I first saw 'Born This Way' by Lady Gaga, I was in awe when I realized this song was blatantly about self-love and inclusivity. I'm so glad I'm alive and able to witness this.

i-dle continues to push boundaries in k-pop and I'm so proud of them. People keep on saying SK is conservative and idols who show support for the LGBTQ+ community will get cancelled, but honestly, they can try with i-dle. Btw the featured artist, skaiwater, is non-binary! Them working with a BIPOC queer artist just makes this release even better :"D

Shuhua going blonde for this comeback was a surprise. Blonde looks really good on her, like when she did it first for "Nxde".

Also: I realized this super late, but when they rebranded from (g)-idle to i-dle, not only did they change their logo to contain a 5-spoked asterisk where the missing piece symbolized Soojin—their former member—they also dropped the (g) which means "girl", basically going beyond their gendered identity as a girl group. Iconic behavior. Always excited for whatever they come up with next!!
