Principal’s Message

A woman with curly black hair smiles warmly at the camera.

Dear Mariner Families,

My name is Jessica Swain, and I'm honored to be your principal! My family and I have called Avalon Park home since 2003. I am not only the school's principal, I am also a proud Mariner parent! My oldest daughter attended Avalon Elementary School from grades K-5, and my youngest daughter currently attends the school. Our school is rich in tradition. We provide our Mariners a world-class education, and we value collaboration with our families. We encourage you to become involved with our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and our School Advisory Council (SAC).

Our teachers provide rigorous, differentiated instruction to ensure all our Mariners grow both socially and academically. Our Mariners have the opportunity to shine in and out of the classroom as we provide lots of enrichment opportunities through our before and after school clubs and our extended day program. In addition, we promote school-wide challenges to keep our Mariners motivated.  These include Beanstack Reading Challenges, the Accelerated Reader Program, Reflex Math Challenge, and countless other district-wide competitions.

Please take a moment to read our AES Family Handbook. This handbook was created with input from our parent organizations, the school's leadership team, teachers, and staff. The handbook outlines the policies and procedures that will help us maximize student learning and support the smooth operation of our school. By working together, we will ensure our Mariners SAIL to success each and every day.

Please visit the "School Information" section of our webpage to find our "Back to School Information".  There you will find the School Supplies Lists. We look forward to seeing you at Meet Your Teacher on Thursday, August 7 from 4 - 6 pm. As we do each year, we will host a sensory-friendly Meet the Teacher from 2:00 - 3:30 pm for our Mariners in our ASD separate classes. The first day of school is Monday, August 11.
