I Refuse to be a Year Behind...

No, you're not seeing things! The date on this post actually says 2010, not 2009. In an effort to not get behind one whole year, I'm going to update my blog. I think I'll start with the most recent and then go backwards. I'll be changing the dates on the posts so they go chronologically, basically for my own journaling purposes, so here we go!

First Swim Meet

Since swim team was so much fun last year, we decided to do it again. Bryan's first race of the year was the 100 IM. Different kids swim it each meet and they only have one heat. Bryan's name came up on the list early this year (this meet was purely alphabetical order). I don't think he swam the IM last year, but he was a trooper and gave it his all. Here he is diving off the blocks:

And swimming the breaststroke:

And here he is with his 3rd place ribbon. Before the race he told me he thought he would probably come in 8th. I told him he couldn't because there are only 6 lanes at our pool. He was pretty tired at the end, but I think he was pretty excited that he did so well. He also swam 25 Backstroke in 32:02 (3 seconds faster than last year) and 50 Free in 54:22 (11 seconds faster than last year).

Luke started off the meet swimming a freestyle relay. What form!

His team came in second. He also swam the 25 Backstroke and 25 Freestyle. He shaved 26 seconds off his freestyle time from last year. Whew!

Little League Champs!

This year Tyler played Little League on the Angels. They had four returning players from last year's team, and it looked like they had a good chance at battling it out for the title. Two out of the past three years Tyler's team has made it to the championship game and gotten 2nd place. And we all know how it feels to get 2nd place. During the regular season it was a back and forth see-saw among three different teams for first place. Tyler's team ended up getting 3rd, but they figured they still had a chance in the post season tournament.

Here is Tyler pitching:

Kindergarten Graduation

It's hard to believe this school year is over already! I mean, who gets out of school a week before Memorial Day weekend, anyway?! WE do, because we start school at the beginning of August. I swear it's ridiculous, but that's not the point of this post, now is it?

A while back, Luke came home with a flier announcing they would be doing pictures in caps and gowns. He was supposed to wear a white shirt and tie that day (yah, right-notice the gray t-shirt with chewed up collar). So they took the pictures and sent them home to entice the parents to buy them. Peter thought the picture was cute; I thought he looked, well, possessed. Of course, I scanned the picture, because I refuse to pay $12.99 a sheet, and sent it back. Lucky for me, the school decided to include a copy in each child's Kindergarten diploma. Now I don't have to feel guilty for scanning.

ImageLuke and I certainly loved working with his teacher, Miss Engram, this year. Somehow I missed getting a picture of him with her after the graduation. We will miss her next year as Luke has been put in another teacher's class who shall remain nameless, but in Luke's own words "is the meanest teacher ever and I'm going to be in trouble every day." Sad. I've tried to reassure him that he won't get in trouble, because he's a good kid and I'll be in his class volunteering to make sure everything goes OK. Hopefully everything will work out just fine.

Fathers & Sons Campout

This year Tyler's Little League team had a game the same night as the Fathers and Sons, so instead of driving late at night to get to the campout, Peter camped with the boys in the backyard.

They had foil dinners cooked on the grill before the game.

And pitched the tent in a shady corner of the yard.

Peter even made a little "fire pit" for the boys to roast marshmallows and Starbursts.

Baby Canon/Mom's 60th Birthday

My sister, Mary Anne, had her baby on April 27th. We were so excited that he came early, because we were already planning on visiting Sierra Vista for my Mom's 60th birthday party on May 1st. So we got to be there for his blessing and were glad we were able to spend a little time with them before they take off to Georgia for the next year. Here are some of the shots I got of baby Canon with his little boy cousins.

Image
As I mentioned before, we were headed to Sierra Vista for my Mom's big 60th birthday fiesta. My Mom has one of the coolest numerical birthdays possible - 5/5/50. Five years ago, on 05/05/05 she turned 55! And it's Cinco de Mayo, and she and my Dad are serving in the Spanish Branch right now, so we had a fiesta themed birthday for her this year.

Mary Anne and I came up with a Jeopardy game with categories about my Mom's life. It was a fun way for the people at the party to get to know a few more details about her than they already did. We split everyone up into three teams. One team was a little more unevenly stacked than the others, but I still think everyone had fun. And everyone is in jackets and blankets because the weather was extremely windy and cold that evening.

ImageImage
Image
Despite the windy conditions, we were determined to get 60 candles lit and kept lit through the "Happy Birthday" song. Miraculously we did it, and then she blew them out.

Image
And what fiesta is complete without a pinata?! Thanks, David and Noel, for the goods!

Growing Like a Weed

Brock is 7 months old now! I can hardly believe it. He has hit some major milestones in the last month or so. He had his 6 month check-up a few weeks ago and weighed in at 18 lbs. 10 oz. and measured 27.5 inches long. What a chunker! Here he is eating rice cereal for the first time.
Image
So far he's had rice, oatmeal, wheat, peas, carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, bananas and this week mangoes! Not surprising to us, he's not a fan of veggies, but he sure does love fruits!
Image
Lately we've been noticing Brock making this face. And last week he kept waking up at night. So we checked his mouth and noticed a tooth trying to come through!
Image
Brock has become quite the roller! He can get pretty much wherever he wants to go by rolling and spinning on his stomach to change directions. Sometimes he gets frustrated trying to get something that is just out of his reach in front of him. He'll try to reach and roll, but stops halfway because he realizes he's not quite going the right direction. In the past few days we've noticed him pushing forward a little with his feet. I'm pretty sure he'll be doing the army crawl soon!
ImageImage
Another milestone is that Brock can sit up by himself and he loves it!
Image
Brock also loves to stick his tongue out and spit. He first started doing this when he started eating solids. He didn't like much of the food and would spit it out all the time. Now he does it whenever and his brothers think it's pretty funny!
