09:33 am - Driving
My car is finally back, after many 'trials'! I don't have any place I NEED to go, but Hubby wants me to use it more, so I will probably try taking it to my favorite store (after morning traffic has calmed down!) We shopped on the weekend, so I don't truly NEED anything, but I can always use more fruit and I'll check the shelves for anything running low. I also like my faviorite store because they have machines that take empty cans and bottles. and give you a small amount of $ for the 'deposits'. Some stores will TAKE the cans and bottles but with no deposit back, or a long wait at the 'help desk' to give you the $$. In other "Happy news", we have a BEAUTIFUL day, with blue sky and a few fast moving clouds

04:46 pm - CRAZY!!
Forget about "Dreaming of a white Christmas!!' We are going to have a White Halloween!!!We have at least 5 inches and the snow is STILL falling!! It's NUTS!! So much for "Global Warming!!! I went out in snowpants, boots ,scarf, and a heavy jacket with hood, and walked my usual 3 block walk. Nobody was out except a few trucks, the postman and the Brinks trucks which stock $$ for stores and banks!! CRAZY!!

11:56 am - RAIN
It rained all night and is STILL coming down! I am doing a few "halloween" things while Hubby and son are both at work. I put 'clings' on the front door with pumpkins, bats, and all kinds of 'monsters'. With the Covid situation, I really don't expect anyone (we didn't get anyone LAST year) . the town sponsors a "Halloween" flavored celebration at the Endicott estate (it once was the home of the wealthy Endicotts, but when the last two of the clan died, they willed it to the town, which rents it out for Girl Scout meetings, indoor (and supervised) get-togethers, like Halloween parties, weddings,etc.). The small 'horse barn' in one corner off the estate has been converted to a library and the 'basement' area, which was once sleeping quarters for the men who groomed the horses, now is a seperate 'story time' area for little kids!!

09:30 am - wet weather
We had almost 24 hours of rain! Glad I have an excellent raincoat, with hood, and warm boots! I got out for several brief walks around the block. Hubby and I had doctor appts. yesterday (we have the same doctor) and everything was fine.YAY! All kinds of 'new' protocol because of the virus, but we cleared the testing and had our exam, mostly the usual weight, height, any current problems? Any contact you know of with covid victems? It was truly weird, not knowing who worked there and who was a patient because of EVERYONE with masks!! (Nobody allowed in without one!). I 'm glad that they always ask if there is any abuse from my husband or other family members and I can tell them I live with my wonderful Hubby and son and they take GOOD care of me!! In other 'news', I am getting a lot of pleasure from the beautiful colors of turning leaves; red, yellow, even orange, plus many that are still green! We have a lot of trees and beautiful gardens in the neighborhood and part of my usual 'walk around the block' is seeing and enjoying all the beautiful colors! Well, time for another walk outside! Hope all my friends have a safe and happy day!!

09:36 am
I just finished a post about Houghton's Pond and it brought to mind my Dad's story of he and his friends taking the 'trolley' from Boston to the end of the line, then walking the last mile to the pond for swimming! Unfortunately, part of his story was about one friend drowning there. That's apparently why they mark off the 'restricted' area beyond the beach with buoys strung together and warning signs. My guess is that there is a significant 'drop off' beyond that point and they do not want people to go too far! They do have lifeguards and emergency eguipment, and rowboats on hand, and a room or two in the 'bathhouse' for emergency treatment.

Hubby nd son are both gone off to work, so I will do some 'housekeeping' chores, then get a walk around the block in. Hubby and I are trying to 'pare down' all the 'stuff' we have accumulated, so I have been working my way through piles of old (paid) bills, circulars, small books, etc. As I've mentioned before, it is hard! I have connected with a new neighbor who works at a local nursery school run by her church, so lots of stuff that belonged to our kid's are going to find a 'new home'! Have I told you about my ceramic 'graduate'?? At one time, Hubby worked on saturdays at a ceramic store, taking molded figurines and painting them. When he paid for me to go back to college and finish my degree (along with my daughter), he made a 'graduate' figurine, white gown with mortarboard and blue tassel and only about a handspan tall, with and my name in the TINIEST possible letters on the rolled up diploma in her hands!! I still remember being congradulated, along with a long line of much younger grads, by Cardinal Cushing!!

11:02 am - Part of my plan to get more exercise,
As part of my plan to get more exercise, I try to do more walking, but walking cement sidewalks as trucks and cars drive by is NOT enjoyable!! So in good weather Hubby helps by taking me to a place I LOVE to walk, around a nearby small 'recreation' area, called Houghton's Pond. In hot weather I like to swim at the sandy beach there, but it is too chilly for me now (although we do see lots of little kids running in and out of the water!!). Instead, Hubby and I walk a dirt path which runs through lots of woods which circle the pond.I love viewing the water below and occasional small sandy areas favored by fishermen or dog walkers. I love this, as it is a pretty view of the water and trees and sometimes wild flowers. At this time of the year, with trees turning color, I end up picking up all kinds of red, yellow and green leaves, bringing them home to put in a plastic cup for some 'color'. I also pick any dandelions I find as we cross the large field which leads back to the parking lot. We have a funny 'tradition'. After parking the car in the large parking lot, and crossing the large grassy field which seperates the path from the parking lot, we touch one of the wooden benches that edge that side of the pond. When we complete the walk around the pond, we touch the bench again! In good weather, we sometimes bring sandwiches and cold drinks in a thermos and sit at a bench to eat them.

11:35 am - Hair!
My hair has changed to mostly grey and some white. It was making me a little 'crazy', as it was long and straight and I didn't like putting it in a ponytail every day,as that seemed to be making it fall out faster!! I called the girl who usually does my perms in her basement set-up', however, she said that because she has grandchildren living with her, she wasn't taking anyone due to Covid worries! Hubby then mentioned that the place where he gets his haircuts also has a girl who does perms! So, I made an appt., Hubby took me there, and I 've got curly hair again! It's MUCH fluffier than I usually have it, but it looks good and I feel more like 'myself' when I look in the mirror. No more ponytails, at least for the foreseable future.
11:10 am - Anniversary
With writing about our meeting and courtship, I thought a post about the 'proposal'! was in order! It was Xmas Eve and he suggested we go to the Cathedral for Midnight Mass, which we did, along with his sister and brother. It was a lovely ceremony with lots of beautiful music and flowers, etc. When we came out of church,it was lightly snowing and each flake seemed to gleam with the light and color from the Cathedral doors and windows. Very romantic! When we reached the sidewalk, He said "I have a present for you!". He Knelt down on one knee, reached in his pocket and brought out a tiny box which he handed to me. I opened it and saw a BEAUTIFUL ring, and he asked "Will you marry me? Before I could ask, he assured me he had already gotten an 'okay' from my Dad!!! I happily said YES, and put the ring on my finger!! Later, he said my Dad had set the 'condition' that he finish college before we married. So we had a LONG engagement, until at last he graduated, got a good job (electrical engineer) and saved every dime until we finally married the folowing September!!
