Software

There’s some great free and cheap software available today, so here’s my list of software I recommend

OpenOffice.org

A free office suite that is Microsoft Office compatible and offers everything the average user could want.

Virtualbox

Free virtualisation software that lets you run another operating system on top of Windows, Mac or Linux.

Yep

like iTunes for PDF documents. Sounds pretty uninspiring until you add in the ability to scan documents straight into the interface, tag and save in two simple steps.

Transmission

Bittorrent client for Mac, Unix and Linux

Firefox

free high quality web browser available on a wide range of platforms. Extendable through plugins. I use Foxmarks to synchronise my bookmarks across computers and operating systems.

Quicksilver

A fast application launcher for Mac that does a lot more than just launch apps.

Frostwire

a free file sharing replacement available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
