Join us for the first-ever BC Hacks 2024 at Bellevue College (BC)! The Tech Club, Computer Programming Club, Innovators Hub, & AI Ethics Club, aim to bring students with diverse skills by meeting brilliant people, learning from experience, & using your creativity to resolve real-world problems. Don't miss out on making a difference at Bellevue College's first annual hackathon!

Students will be assigned to focus their projects on the following tracks, while also tying them back to the theme of "Productivity":

FAQ

What’s a hackathon?

A hackathon is a collaborative event where individuals come together to solve real-life problems, develop innovative ideas, and build projects within a short time frame.

 

Will BC Hacks 2024 be in-person or Virtual?

This will be an in-person event, but you are not required to stay for the whole day. We will provide meals and snacks throughout the day. However, if you are presenting your project, you are required to attend during the afternoon on June 9th.

 

Do I have to be a BC student to register/join?

No, we accept all students from high schools, community colleges, and universities. You are required to fill out the waiver if you’re not a BC student. 

 

How much coding experience do I need to have?

You do not need to have any prior coding experience. We are welcoming students of all experience, skill levels, and expertise.

 

Cost to join?

There are no cost to join our Hackathon. We will provide wifi networks, meals, and space free for all Hackers.


Where the event is being held?

BC Hacks 2024 will be held at Bellevue College’s U Building room 301. There are parking lots around the building. Make sure to promo code for free parking is ABASXR.


Team size and formation?

Each team must include 3-4 members. You can form your team before the event or join the team formation session that will be held on the morning of the first day of the event.

 

What to bring?

Please bring your laptop and charger to work on the project. There will be places for you to charge.

Requirements

WHAT TO BUILD

For this hackathon, your project should center around the theme of Productivity. It's not required to include coding. You could, for example, prepare a PowerPoint presentation or a Figma UI design that clearly expresses your innovative ideas. Make sure your project aligns with one of our three tracks:

  • Business & Innovation
  • Personal Development & Wellness
  • Education & Accessibility. 

What to SUBMIt

At a minimum, you should submit a set of slides (PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Canva) to showcase your project. You may also submit a link to your project, such as a GitHub repository, website, or Figma design. You'll present your project live to the judges on Sunday, June 9th.

To compete for the Student Favorite Award, please include a video with your submission. This will allow other participants to view and vote for their favorite project on Sunday, June 9th.

Judging Criteria

  • Innovation
    This evaluates how your project introduces new or significantly improved solutions. We look at the creativity in the use of technology and problem-solving, with a focus on unique features/methods that set your project apart from standard approaches.
  • Scalability
    Judges assess your project's ability to expand in scale and reach without losing quality or efficiency. It should demonstrate potential for growth in the user base/type while enhancing or maintaining performance.
  • Accessibility
    Accessibility evaluates how well your project accommodates a diverse group of user. We assess if the design and functionality are easily usable by people with disabilities and meet a wide range of user needs.
  • Security
    Security focuses on how well your project safeguards user data and operates reliably. We examine the effectiveness of your security measures, adherence to best practices, and the project’s resilience against potential cyber threats.
  • Track Alignment
    This measures how well your project addresses the specific objectives and challenges of the chosen track. It should clearly contribute to the theme of its category while focusing on our theme productivity.
  • Design
    The overall aesthetic, interface, and/or user experience of your project are under scrutiny here. The design should not only be visually appealing but also practical, enhancing the ease of use and effectiveness of user interactions.
