It's Nessy, alive and well! Just dropping a note to anybody that happens to see this- I'm still alive, doing quite well for myself, and am basically just going to be chilling (and working) until the end of July. I got my tax returns, which means that I am SERIOUSLY living in luxury, COUNTING paying rent and food. That's even more so considering that I'm STILL working, uhuhuhuhu! Basically, I am sitting pretty on my pile of money.

Today I went and got a haircut, and now I look like this:
lj-cut for a hair-cut!Collapse )

And, in more exciting news, I am going to be in Brattleboro for the last week of July with my job! We're all headed down to canvass everybody FOR THE GOOD OF THE EARTH 8D so uh yeah. I'm looking forward to seeing people<3

SO REMEMBER HOW I WAS CONVINCING MYSELF THAT MY SUMMER WOULDN'T SUCK

hahahahhahahahaha but no really it will be okay.

But basically, in the past month, I have discovered that I am homeless (as in, I got in the car and my mother said, "oh by the way we're couchsurfing with a friend of mine in Hanover now) and been wandering around up in Burlington with my mother. She's been in this program for uh, you know, homeless people, except the thing is she doesn't have enough money to rent an apartment or a room even. That's. Kind of why we're homeless in the first place. I lost my job at the gas station because- well, Hanover. Not so much "lost" as "surrendered it", but you know.

Soooo... yeah. I just got a job (somehow!!!) at VPIRG for the summer, and I'm looking at a shared apartment (with two guys) tomorrow, probably going to take it. HOW DO I PULL THESE CRAZY-ASS MIRACULOUS THINGS OUT OF MY ASS I DON'T EVEN KNOW

so hey guys, how is your summer.

C:) I'll be back in town by the 20th! SO SOME OF US SHOULD TOTALLY CHILLAX. TOGETHER. YES.

SO GUYS GUESS WHERE I AM

yes that's right college.

If I can remember to, I'll make a teal deer post later, but this is my ULTRA-BRIEF posting concerning UVM:

  • The food is quite good. I'm the sort that dislikes major changes in what I eat, special occasions aside, so even the fact that the menu is mostly the same works for me.

  • The classes are distressingly easy. We have spent the past two bio and chem lectures going over what: molecules are, what the phases of matter are, types of bonds, and what matter is. This would all be very exciting and cool, but for the fact that none of it is new information. I can't wait until I have to actually study.

  • Campus is not big enough to bitch about but not small enough to ignore. That is: geez, walking sure is a pain, and riding your bike during certain hours just isn't practical due to all the PEOPLE.

  • Almost everybody in this school is like. Drunk. Constantly. I look on it as an easy way to gain a scholastic advantage, but inside am extremely displeased with this. Nobody's drunkenness has bothered us yet, but if it does, I will bitch.

    DONE<3

I'm just making a quick and ridiculously breathless post to point out that- RIGHT NOW- NPR is playing like, folk-music renditions of all sorts of classic rock (I think that's what they're called) songs. We're talking "Stairway to Heaven" on a piccolo, "Bohemian Rhapsody" on like, an accordion? SOMETHING AMAZING CLEARLY WE MUST GIVE THESE PEOPLE MORE MONEY.

    Jul. 26th, 2008 @ 03:19 pm OH JAPAN
So, since I know (minimal) Chinese, this enables me to navigate Youtube in Japanese (also minimally).

This is great! I've found a lot of really cute, interesting, and amusing things.
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
...I have also found three of the most bizarre videos ever to be made. This isn't a language gap thing (or at least, I hope not, because if so holy shit cultural exchange is doomed); these videos are just hilariously bizarre in any language. The upside of them being Japanese is that they're fairly well-animated and drawn.

ON WITH MY FINDINGS OF THE WEEK:

  • This thing is... I'm not really into Reborn!, but since I hang out on 4chan I know enough about it (via osmosis and a little manga experimentation- bad trip, man, bad trip) to know, basically, who is who. It doesn't have any bearing other than that the guy with funny eyes and pineapple hair is Bad News, I think, and also called Mukuro which makes me think of Murkrow.
This is the kind of video that you KNOW deep down in your gut had to come out of drugs, but the animation and graphics are of such reasonable/good quality that you have to admit that it actually took time. Which means somewhere in Japan the creator of this video is living a life filled with thoughts of... whatever this is.
It's also painfully hilariously strange. Something about the moving arc of bunny-Mukuros really amuses me. I think it's the math nerd in me- I think of quadratic equations. Also the seductive-hip-swishing afro-cow-baby really tickles me. As in, I CAN'T WATCH FOR TOO LONG OR I START LAUGHING.

  • Who the hell makes these things? The video itself is fairly plain, but the fact that somebody actually made like, a song, and... and lyrics, and.... I'd almost say that somebody mistranslated it for the lulz, but you can hear that no, the lyrics correspond to the subs. Oh god. Maybe this is something about rape and childhoods, but I'm slightly terrified of this video. At the same time... it's really hypnotizing. *____* The little back-and-forth motion of Crashman is... man, I don't even know. And the silly little come-hither look he delivers to the audience at the start of the video just slays me. I also love Rockman/Megaman's terrified look partway through. It's a really simple video, but it's mostly all about the lyrics anyways. The really, really uhhhh interesting lyrics.
...I'll just eat a chicken biscuit and move on.

  • Another video with a catchy beat, this video is, as far as I can tell, based on a seriously old video game from Japan (duh). I wish I knew Japanese every time I watch this, simply because I can tell the lyrics are astonishingly silly. The song is. So. Catchy. God.
This video has everything- Spiderman, a mock commercial, BDSM, and an Ultraman reference. The art is a little looser in quality compared to the other two, but I think it really suits the tone of the uhhh whatever this is. Oh, it also references Sailor Moon, in a way that's sure to make your (and the lead of the video's) hair stand on end. I kind of want to do play a kung fu game every time I watch this, but (thankfully) the feeling passes with the music.

BONUS: I hate hate hate Haruhi Fucking Suzumiya or whatever her name is. Watched five whole episodes. Loathed every minute. However, the show has the best dance affiliated with it that I'VE seen in a while, and here's a Pokemon version of it. The art's a little wonky sometimes, but come on- Pikachu dancing. Pikachu shaking his hips. His little pikachu hips.

    BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW it's hot.

That said, I HAVE EXCITING STORIES/NEWS FROM REAL LIFE:

  • Uh, firstly, I'm not dead. I bet you're all thrilled<3 but i swear to god if my mother bitches at me for being whatever she thinks i happen to be at the time one more time i am going to... do nothing, really. less than a month and a half now, though i still have to pack and get some stuff, etc....

  • KLJFDHKJHFK I have to get my immunization record turned in by the end of July for UVM. This isn't a problem except I'm mortally terrified of phones and talking on them. When my doctor heard that I was going to be in pre-vet studies, or pre-med if I didn't make it into that, she said that it would be "great" if I interned with her over the summer. COMPLETELY UNPROMPTED. My doctor is so cool. O______O

  • While looking over the forms for immunization, etc., I noticed that those going to medical school and nursing school have to get special immunizations. I hadn't really thought about it, but it makes sense. One thing that kind of made me go 'buh?' was the fact that mental illness wasn't one of the drop-down options in the family history section. Depression, yes. Schizophrenia, bipolar, etc.? Nope. Weird. I'd definitely want to know who was mentally ill in general rather than just who happened to be suicidal-on-purpose. I'm fairly sure that's super-politically-incorrect, but I'm feeling too ratty right now to care.

  • AT WORK THERE IS THIS FUGLY OLD DRUNK GUY THAT'S ONE OF THE CARETAKERS OF THE GRAVEYARD I GO THROUGH TO GET TO LIKE BASICALLY HALF MY TOWN. I FRATERNIZE WITH HIM BECAUSE IF I DON'T HE SPENDS HALF AN HOUR OR MORE IN THE STORE. OH YEAH I MEAN HE'S A CUSTOMER AT MY GAS STATION. THE POINT AND WHY I'M SCREAMING IS THAT I MADE THE MISTAKE OF TALKING WITH HIM NEXT TO THE LITTLE DEBBIE SHELF INSTEAD OF OVER THE NORMAL COUNTER (my coworker was running register and I was chilling) AND HE PUT HIS HAND OUT LIKE HE WAS GOING TO SHAKE SO I PUT MINE OUT TOO AND THEN

    THEN

    he kissed my hand

    i am still faintly scarred

i washed my hand so fast

  • In my second job, which is basically summer camp with lots of painful farming thrown in (though I like hand-weeding and harvesting for Farmer's Market and the service sites, which is where we drag loads of veggies or just ourselves somewhere and DO SUM SHIT), I have gotten so tan. So tan. Seriously. You think farmer's tan is funny? I WILL MAKE YOU LOL.

  • It's oh god hot.

  • I get ridiculous amounts of free vegetables, though. Seriously. I took home three zucchini yesterday and would probably have had more but I'm home sick with the sniffles. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DRIBBLE ON PRODUCE.

  • ....I was sad, though, because Wednesday is my favorite day- to market, to market, and also lots of left-over veggies<3. Tomorrow is mentoring with the kids again, which is kind of a weird experience because even though I don't like kids that much, they really seem to like me. And cling to me. And listen to meeeee. Whatever. It works, and it means my workgroup gets to run around teaching kids stuff about plants instead of doing a work block. Yeah, Thursdays are my work group's slacker day, what can I say.

  • I don't get paid for my second job until about the end of this month (which really pisses me off but whatever... something about putting some of us into a backlogged database, boo) BUT I get my 4th of July paycheck tomorrow~<3 WHICH MEANS I WILL BE SUPER-RICH. *3* I'm planning to make a cool kind of quilt, but it needs stuffing, so I'm going to go down to Wally World (if it's not too hot) tomorrow WITH MAH MAD MUNNIEZ and buy a bag of stuffing.

  • Last bullet, I swear: When I do get my first paycheck for the farm job, I'm planning on getting a PSP with part of the money. I did the math and, with the extra time I always seem to pull for my slacker coworkers at my gas station, I'm working full-time. I kind of feel like it's a waste of money, but given how much love and use my DS has seen, I know it won't be. I feel guilty for spending so much money, but at the same time (er, once I pay my mother August's rent) I'm kind of going to HAVE a lot of money. Don't get me wrong- almost all of it's going into savings. But the portion I reserve for snacks, buying supplies for lunch, and ~fun money~ (about 1/4 of a check) can certainly go to something like a PSP.

  • sdkjfhksadjfdsfg I LIED THIS IS THE LAST BULLET okay so I got EXTRA~~~ scholarship money for school. Which means that I might be able to get a laptop with that ~~~extra~~~ money. *______* I feel kind of happy, and smart because all of my scholarships are merit-based, though many have need thrown in too. THE BIGGEST ONES ARE ALL MERIT-BASED THOUGH HOMG.

May. 22nd, 2008 @ 08:00 pm Camwho- well, no, not quite....
I got my digital camera today<3
If I could take a picture of it, I would, but, eh, that's kind of impossible. So instead I went around taking pics of everything around me. I need to get a SD card so that I can hold more than seven pictures, but that will come next week, next payday. Yaaay.

    So, the pictures....?Collapse )

So, anyways.... Uh, Shannie! I'm getting out of school soon, and I'm getting good at biking again, too, so if you can manage to get to your general store I can manage to get to you.
    My own work schedule right now is completely opposite yours, eheheheh.... =__=;;
Once school ends, I'm sure we'll be able to see each other a little more, though I'm taking up a second job and possibly, if I can manage it and find one, a third. EVEN SO we'll totally hang out. ::promises::
