Being Babcock is being Green...

I"m a little paranoid about the easy access the internet provides to everyone lives these days, and it had greatly deterred me from blogging, until now. :) I have a little secret, that I'm now ready to share. I started ANOTHER blog! "What?! Another blog? Why?' All valid questions. Maybe history will repeat itself, but there's only one way to find out :)

A few years ago when my aunt died of breast cancer it was of course sad and left no eye unwatered, and no heart unwrenched in all my family.  I loved my aunt and could relate to so much of her love for life, animals, farms, the environment, psychology, books, etc. I began to worry if someday I too might relate to her cancer also. Over the last few years there have been several studies published that show a link of one's diet to breast cancer. ( There have been so many more studies linking other cancer, and cancerous cells in general to cancer, but that's for another post.) ANYWAY-I spent a lot of time thinking about my quality of life, that of my children and wondered if my sweet tooth would literally be the death of me.

When a family friend and neighbor had their cancer come out of remission he began chemo in conjunction with some integrative health measures. Coffie colonics, vitamin D shots, Green Smoothies, and other things.
I have been vigilent about the use of whole wheat almost since I got married after I read this horrific study linking inertility in rats to white flour and white bread. About that same time I quit my brutal diet coke habbit in favor of clearing up my skin, clearing my skin, my mind and mood from the manic moods of the caffiene. When living over seas I was  practically forced into a mostly vegetarian diet due to the lack of quality poultry and beef. ) However, eating mostly fresh fruit, vegetables, rice and fish felt good. It tasted good and my body performed great at Scuba diving, skin diving, snorkeling, kayaking.. I noticed something change though when I moved back to the states. I didn't have that same energy and stamina I had when in Palau. My complexion wasn't clear anymore and then of course there was a little more jiggle on me than in the jello. My sister in law is natural foodie and has been as long as I've known her. Her example and knowledge have been invaluable.
I had made little changes all along the way over the years but the game changer was when I learned about green smoothies. It was all down hill from there.  I think my family was a little worried about me at first and thought I had gone nuts about nuts, and grains, and produce. That is, until they began to see me change emotionally and physically. I lost the baby weight after my second so much faster while still being able to nurse. I felt more emotionally balanced. A para ovarian cyst that had been threatening has not given me any more problems.
SO, I'm now THAT  Mom. You know, the crazy weird health food nut Mom? Yep, that's me and I LOVE it!!!

I started a second blog with the intention of just having a place to keep everything I've learned over the last who knows how many years in an easily accessible place that I could refer some family and close friends who wanted tips, techniques, recipes, etc.  The truth is it would be selfish of me to not share all the cool stuff I've learned and I'm learning. I also feel like I owe it to people I care about to know what I do and feel as good as I feel. Lastly, I want my friends and family to be healthy and happy, because I care about them and their happiness.
So, f you're curious....

The Lunch Challenge...

I don't know about everyone else, but after talking to some of my girl friends, who are also Moms it seems that too often we end up eating what are kids are eating for lunch. Unfortunately, what the kids are eating isn't any better for them than for us: chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, quesadillas, mac n'cheese, anything fast food is also usually less than ideal right? I eat all this "junk" food and then wonder why I still haven't lost the baby weight...Even worse I'm feeding it to my darling kids who I always say I'd do anything for....So YOUR lunch challengeS (there is more than one for those feeling especially competitive or eager)

1. Go an entire week with out feeding your child a lunch with cheese as the "meat" of the meal (ie: quesadillas, grilled cheese, Mac N' Cheese from a box, instant is especially a no-no.)
2. Go a whole week with out any fast food, take-out, or frozen lunches....

These challenges are not too difficult I realize, the good ones I'm saving for later. In a week I'll post one of my favorite new go to lunches that is both tasty, but something that's also good for my waist line. If you discover or invent something fun, make sure to post it! I'll share with you some lunch alternatives next time. Good luck!

Your "Cream of...." challenge:

Before I tell you about my last few months, I want you to tell me about your last week. How many meals in the last two weeks have you made dinner using Cream of Chicken, Cream of Mushroom, or cream of anything else....? If you can say zero times-you may move onto the next challenge (to follow soon). If you have said once or more-I challenge you for the next 10 meals you make (if you go out to eat one night for dinner it doesn't count) with out using ANY Cream of anything. Let me know how it goes. More to follow...including yummy yummy recipes. :)

Mommy Kisses

I wish we could all live in a world where Mommy kisses will make our worst "owies" better. I love that for now my little-tough guy does live in that world. He was playing with some neighborhood kids outside when he skinned his knee pretty good. He didn't cry. He just called out for me and said he needed me to kiss it better. He looked at his wrist that was also a bit skinned up and kissed his wrist better himself. He needed the Mommy kiss though for his knee. It made me feel good to know the Mommy kiss has power for him, and his believing it does, is powerful to me. I love living life through a child's eyes where the future is bright and untainted and tomorrow holds endless possibilities. Mommy kisses really do make owies better, which must mean that the future really is bright and tomorrow really does hold endless possibilities. Thank goodness for Mommy Kisses!

two pictures, one for each year...

ImageVivi is even more darling and sweet than she looks. This was taken on her 6 month birthday. She is one loved little lady, and boy is her big brother already protective of her.

ImageFor Rocky's birthday this year we took a tour of the local Fire Station with some of his cousins and aunts. They wished Rockwell a Happy Birthday over the live dispatch and when Rockwell heard his name called over the monitor his mouth dropped and then we watched him start smiling bigger and bigger as he realized what was happening.

These two munchkins sure keep us busy. They literally tag team each other. We are so so grateful to have them in our lives.

Changes now and near....

Hello my long lost blogging friends and family!

As anyone who has ever looked at this blog would know-I'm horrible at blogging. I make all sorts of excuses like lack of time, lack of interest, lack of consistent internet access, but the real reason is because people are reading this blog that I'm unaware of. I feel sensitive and unsure about WHO is reading what I'm revealing and so I'm going to do something even more annoying than being behind in posting-going PRIVATE!

As of December 25th, 2009 this blog will be PRIVATE! I know there can't be too many people that read or follow this blog because of the lack of postings in the past. For those who are curious or interested in the new and imroved blog that is about to be re-born feel free to leave your e-mail address or send me an e-mail with the e-mail address of your choice to be invited at. I have lots of pictures I've been wanting to post, some humorous, embarassing, and discouraging events to expose, and I want to do it knowing whose reading it.

I can't wait to start posting! ;)
