Buggy had joined the crew on The Endurance 2 three days ago, and for the most part, Lara had been fine. Distracted by his presence, busy with helping her crew with running the ship. Generally able to keep her facade of being perfectly fine in place.

But then Grim had told her they were less than a day away from Yamatai outside of the Dragons Triangle and Lara felt her carefully crafted mask of indifference slipping. She'd busied herself with reading everything she brought with herself on Yamatai. Old legends were a place to start, but she knew all of them and could easily tell someone what parts of the legends were true and which ones were not.

Was Himiko really a shamanistic Queen?

Yes, yes she was.

Was she benevolent? Abso-fucking-lutely not.

Could Himiko control the weather?

Yes, yes she damn well could.

She could also tell people that the island had been inhabited by a cult that worshipped Himiko. That Himoko was Himiko, The First and the Last because she literally poured her soul into carefully selected replacements, thereby ensuring she really was the first and the last.

What she wouldn't be telling people, not without proper motivation, was that the first trip to Yamatai had been nearly fatal. She'd lost many. She almost died several times in the span of a few days. That every attempt to escape the island had been met with furious storms, more death. It only ended when Lara burnt the desiccated body of Himiko, thus preventing from transferring her soul into the body of her friend, Sam, and lifting the curse on the island.

That being said, though, she had the feeling that Jonah and the others had filled Buggy in on Yamatai. And she felt sort of bad for not telling him about her adventure on it. But sometimes a girl just wants to forget that bad shit ever happened and it was almost entirely her fault.

She really felt no need to be back on this island.

Some time after midnight while Lara really can't sleep and the island is just a few hours away, she's sat in the galley, hair tied back as usual. She hadn't even managed to change for bed, still in the tank top and pants she'd worn earlier. She's looking over the small, locked box with strange markings and symbols all over it that she and Buggy had found weeks prior when he'd helped her explore a cave. There was a lid but no place for a lock, and Lara had finally decided to see what was in it. The markings on it had been all throughout old legends of Yamatai, that's how she knew where to go.

Sitting with a bottle of something strong she'd 'borrowed' from Grims secret stash, she turned the box over in her hand. Something about it catches her eye, a detail she hadn't seen before. She's so invested in studying this thing that she almost doesn't hear Buggy speaking to her.

Lara Croft, daughter of world-famous explorer Lord Richard Croft and artist Lady Amelia Croft, was raised on expeditions, historical knowledge, legends and parents who were very willing to let Lara explore life as she saw fit. An excellent student, she was prone to getting very distracted by imaginative play instead of doing homework she found boring.

Her father and mother argued a lot about Richards expeditions taking him away from Lara often, but they tried to keep a happy front for their daughter. When Amelia became very ill and died, Richard threw himself into his obsessions even more. Roughly around eight years old, Lara lost her father. She found out years later it was murder and has been hellbent on getting to the bottom of why ever since.

Her fathers death was connected to a pirate group called the Triadra. While other pirates wanted to find the One Piece, the Triadra wanted to find ancient and legendary artifacts that would let them reshape the world.

This adventure lead her to the cursed island of Yamatai, where she lost several of her friends to either death or a broken friendship. Soon after managing to stop one of the Triadra leaders from resurrecting an ancient and malevolent queen who would have covered the world in disease and darkness. The second leader, an old family friend named Ana and her zealot brother Konstantin, wanted to steal an artifact known as the Divine Source from the island of Kitezh and wanted to use it to grant the Triadra immortality. Knowing this would cause trouble for everyone, Lara stopped them, too.

The third leader, and the head of the Triadra, is a pirate known as Amaru Dominguez, who seeks to steal artifacts from the island of Paititi in order to reshape the world into one without weakness or sin. They sought to control everything about the world and Lara, liking the world as it is, isn't about to let them.

She also still wants revenge for the death of her father.

During all of this, she's making a name for herself as the girl taking out the Triadra. How the world around her will respond, she doesn't know. Nor does she care. She can't let the Triadra succeed. There's too much about this messy, chaotic world that she loves to see it vanish.

Along the way she's met Buggy the Clown. She knows him by reputation, and is cautious about being around him, but he'll prove to be a big help in her efforts.

More to come.

IC Information:

Character Name: Lara Croft
Series: Tomb Raider Reboot Games
Character History: Right here.
Character Canon Point: Just after the jaguar fight in the third game. She'll wake up in the clinic.

Personality: Lara Croft is a young woman just discovering who she is and is therefor very unsure of herself. She's still trying to find her place in this world. Her father and mother were famous explorers and archaeologists, so she has a lot to live up to and she knows it. She doubts herself and isn't sure she's going to ever be as great as her parents were before they disappeared.

As the game progresses, it's clear that Lara is not only very intelligent, able to determine when relics are from and read ancient scrolls written in Japanese, but she's resourceful, too. She's able to upgrade and improve her weapons with bits of salvage she finds on Yamatai. She shows an ability to adapt to her present situation and knows that while it's entirely fucked up, she will have to do some messed up things in order to survive.

Her first kill leaves her shaken but she doesn't let it get to her for long. In fact, she eventually expresses concern in regards to how easy it actually was. It scares her. She doesn't enjoy having to hurt others. This is evident in comments she makes to the Solarii saying it doesn't have to be this way and they should just let her and her friends go. They need to leave her alone.

She's also hellbent on surviving and knows she has to do so at any cost, even if the cost is daunting and too high at times. She insults the Solarii, taunting them before tearing through them. Calling them bastards and coming close to laughing at their panic a time or two.

This shows stubbornness, a dauntless attitude and when it's boiled down to it's main motivation, a loyalty to her friends. She wants nothing more than to save them and to get everyone home safe and sound. She loses a few people and this affects the way she behaves. It bolsters her determination and strengthens her resolve, thereby making her colder and harder than she started out.

Lara is also hungry to learn about what happened, taking time to read old journal entries and explore her surroundings for answers and maybe even a way to save her friends. This is a trait she's had for years, readily accompanying her parents on their digs and spending time with them as they learn, absorbing information readily.

When it comes to friends and family and the people she has in her life, her emotions tend to run positively. They range from a respectful business relationship, for example her relationship with renowned Dr Whitman, to familial love as is displayed in her relationship with longtime family friend Conrad Roth. To her, he's a second father. She learned a lot of her survival skills from him and a lot of her decisions boiled down to 'What would Roth do'.

She can be a very friendly and caring girl to the people she brings into her life and this makes her fiercely protective of them

Her adventures after Yamatai have strengthened her tenacity and her stubbornness. Her drive to keep going is stronger than ever, so much so that it's become a huge flaw. She gets to a point in her stubbornness where she thinks she's the only one who can save the world, the only one who should. And this stubbornness makes it hard for her to let go of ideas she was so sure of. Once she's able to step out of that stubbornness, she's more able to see the big picture of something and find different ways to solve the problems that she faces or finds a better understanding of the mystery she's working through.

Abilities: A Wikilink.

Six Items: Recurve bow, a quiver of arrows, a photograph of her friends from The Endurance, her grappling hooks (two so this is two items), a rappelling rope

Character Samples:

Sample 1: TDM Thread.

Sample 2: [ The young woman on the feed looks as though she's been through ten kinds of hell, and that wouldn't be an inaccurate assessment. She's bruised, the colors still dark with yellow edges, showing that they're healing. The tank-top she wears shows the edges of fresh bandages peeking out.

And she's seated outside the Wechester Hospital, having just been released just moments before.

And she looks sort of stressed. That same lost-and-confused look on her face that other arrivals have when they show up. When she speaks, her voice has a British accent and while it sounds a bit tired, it's still clear. She has questions.
]

I've been informed as to my current whereabouts, but when I asked the people in my hospital room how I got there, they just smiled and walked off. Is that common behavior; ask a question of the locals and get strange non-answers? They said I'd given them a fright, but were glad to see me looking so well and when I asked again, they gave me an envelope, this FluxPhone, they called it, and a key to an apartment.

Can anyone provide me with answers? The nurses didn't seem inclined to.

[ She's already not goddamn fond, okay. With a small frown and a look on her face that hints she's hellbent already on figuring out what is going on, she shakes her head and stands. Picking up a backpack nearby, she offers a small 'thank you' to whoever's listening before turning her video off. ]

Roughly four years after I left New Dodge and Eli's approached me. He wants me to come back, to run C&P as apparently they're having some issues. And while my initial reaction was to say 'no', I didn't. I couldn't. I realized I missed New Dodge.

Not to mention, once I ran it past Jonah, he insisted I go. He said it sounds like the perfect opportunity for a vacation and if I'm going to be honest with myself, the wilder moments of New Dodge don't quite compare to the last few weeks I've had already.

I told Eli I'd go, but upon my return home, I'd like to get back to Paititi to visit my friends and see how they're doing.

If I return home at all.

Who knows? I might decide to stay.

It wasn't at all Lara's idea to leave Regina home with her Great Grandmother and her father, but Reggie just didn't fly well at all. She got sick. She screamed because of the pressure in her ears. And Betty was far too enamored with the dark haired baby to let Lara take her, anyway, so Lara left her at home in Seattle with her father and a grandmother hellbent to spoil her rotten while Lara went to talk at a university about one of her recent expeditions.

She gave them the PG version and told no one about the Solari or the people who tried to murder her, or that perfect thermal valley with those amazing people and what they protected. No one needed to know that.

Not that they wanted to even pay attention. The whole world was caught up in news of Pro Conduit Cults rising around the world, people who screamed that Conduits were the future and Normals were on the way out. That Conduits were the next stage in evolution and everyone else was doomed to die.

Lara wasn't a fan. These people sounded dangerous, a worse threat than Augustine, and they put people like Delsin and Eugene and Fetch in bad a bad light.

When she arrives home, stepping off the plane at 7:23 PM at the Seattle-Tacoma airport, she doesn't expect things to go as planned. Meet Delsin at the airport at 7:45, go home to Betty and Reggie.

At 7:28 she receives a text from Delsin, saying he's at baggage. At 7:29, she sees him from a short distance and heads over, a grin on her face. at 7:30 PM precisely, she's taken four steps towards him when a shout gets her attention. All she catches are the words "Conduits" and "Evolution" before a man with a glowing blue bomb strapped to his chest rushes her.

She hasn't the chance to get away before it goes off, the force of the blast sending her through a window and into a fountain, knocking her out before she hits the water.

Water that, unbeknownst to her, has soaked into her skin and healed her injuries.

For all intents and purposes, she should be dead. She was closest to the explosion and hit the hardest. But she's fine. Gasping for air and covered in dirt and pain, clothes torn as she stands, she hardly notices the water swirling around her hands. What she notices is the destruction and the crazed man in the middle of it.

And, of course, one pissed off Delsin going after said man. For once in her life, she's too distracted by the waters behavior to really notice what Delsin's doing for a moment, another shout from another extremist getting Lara's attention.

She runs towards him, anger fueling each step, not aware that she's shifted forms, now a mass of water chasing down the second attacker. What she is aware of is she's significantly faster than before, and she's aware that she has this man by the throat with ease, lifted off the ground and slammed against a wall. It knocks him out and this is when it really sinks in, causing her to half step, half stumble backwards as she watches water start swirling around her hands again.

Is she scared? About to reject what she is?

For fucks sake, no. She's just surprised and unsure of how to proceed.

Reggie Crowe hasn't set foot inside the high school in over a year. Today, however, she's striding through the halls as if she owns the place, one foot confidently placed in front of the other as she moves towards her intended target.

Until she has to dodge a teacher or the principal, and then it's a quick Vine Crawl into the nearest closet to wait until the danger passes. Sometimes being a Conduit was the best thing. Oh, who is she kidding? It's the greatest thing All The Time, especially when it came to things like sneaking.

See, Reggie was very much so her fathers daughter in that boredom lead to really bad life-choices and today's life choice was breaking her best friend Paris out of school. This wasn't her school anymore. She graduated early. At age sixteen, in fact, and has spent the better part of this school year taking college classes online. The better to blow through them and be done for the day before one. But sitting around and waiting for her friend to be done with his day at school was in fact a Nightmare.

Seattle had street festivals today. All day. To celebrate Delsin chasing the DUP out of town and Reggie really wanted to go, but she couldn't just up and leave without her reluctant partner in crime.

Hence the breaking into High School. It doesn't take long to find Paris, either. He has study hall and is spending it in the computer lab, which doesn't surprise Reggie in the slightest.

To get his attention, Reggie sends a vine into the room to tug at his pant leg, trying to get him to look up. When he does, Reggie's grin is huge and she motions to him to come with her.

He says nothing, just glances around and shakes his head at her, motioning for Reggie to go away.

Reggie tries again, making the vine tug just a bit harder.

And again, Paris is shaking his head, this time mouthing for her to 'Knock it off, Reggie!

Reggie pouts at him for a moment before ducking down and pulling out her cellphone, humming to herself as she hastily bangs out a text.

Dude r u kidding do u no what today is?

The vibration in Paris' pocket startles him some and he shoots a quick look at the teacher. Teacher isn't paying attention so Paris texts back.

Yes, I know what today is. A school day.

That doesn't count, Pez.

It's the anniversary of the day our parents chased the DUP out of Seattle. I know. You can't wait for two hours?

Paris Eugene Sims what a question do u even no who ur talkin 2

Give me two hours.

You have 2 min

And then what.

Standn by the fire alarm Pez better hurry.

What? Reggie! REGGIE, NO!

one minute pez

Reggie Rowe was in fact not by the fire alarm. She was standing right outside the study hall, humming to herself and waiting impatiently for the mad dash she knows is coming. The second she sends her last text to Paris, he's barreling out the classroom doors, backpack in one hand and bathroom pass in the other.

He almost goes to tell Reggie off for her stupid prank but is quieted by the hand in his and the playful grin on her face.

"Good to see you, Pez! Now'd be a good time to run. Your principal saw me. I don't think he likes me all that much."

With that, the pair take off and despite Paris' reservations and protests, they actually have a great time at the festival. Until, of course, they get home to two sets of pissed off parents.

From When? Shortly after her father-figure Conrad Roth died to keep her safe. This is also shortly after the second attempt at getting off the island wherein Lara came quite close to dying.

History: Right here.

She can be a very friendly and caring girl to the people she brings into her life and this makes her fiercely protective of them.

Why do you think your character would work in this setting? Lara won't be happy about fluxing in at all. She'll think it's a trick by the Solarii (a cult of madmen who worship the Sun Queen, Himiko) but considering the highly injured state she'll be arriving in, she won't have the energy to protest and will need to spend a day or so in the clinic to be tended to.

Once she realizes this isn't Solarii bullshit and she's stuck, she'll use her time wisely to train and strengthen herself so that when she does return home, it'll be easier to rescue her friends and get off of Yamatai

She's a recently graduated archaeologist who will want to explore the mines and outside the dome so I'm hoping something that needs those skills will come up soon. She'll want to help people understand where they are, along with learning more about it herself. She'll find New Dodge fascinating once she settles into the idea that she is stuck.

What will your character do for work? She'll be working for Sirius Black in his cafe

Inventory: Her recurve bow, a handful of arrows, an ammunition-less pistol, Sam's camcorder and charger, the really nasty clothes on her back.

Samples: And now for the hard part! If you need a prompt for your samples, refer back to the Applications Page.

Third-Person Sample: Right here. It's still in progress, I think.

First-Person Sample:

New Dodge: Day 7

I've found myself stuck in another unknown place only this time, no one's ever heard of it outside of here. It's on it's own planet, not anywhere near Earth. I didn't think this was quite possible, but here I am. In an old west colony in space.

It's equal parts fascinating and frightening. On the one hand, it's a new civilization with it's own stories and history and I want to learn as much as I can. On the other, I can't go home for the next six months. I'm told it takes time to find my specific universe and timeline, but no time will pass back home.

I'm disinclined to believe this, but then I was also disinclined to believe that ancient queens can have shamanistic powers and control the weather. I'm not sure I believe that just yet, either.

I'll use my time wisely here. They have a gym and a range. I'll train so that when I do go home, provided time really hasn't passed, I'll be able to stop the Solarii and rescue my friends.

It's what Roth would want me to do.
