Here are some pictures from our day yesterday.  I am in a hurry and will write more later.

Today we were able to have free time and tour around Berlin.  Our first stop was the Berlin Wall - Image

Germany Trip - Post 5 Day 3

This morning we left the Hotel and when to Potsdam.  In Potsdam we took a tour of the Sanssouci Castle and learned about Fredrick the great.  Here is a little overview of the Castle (I stole this off the web) -

Sanssouci Palace and Park

Frederick the Great wanted to cultivate plums, figs and wine on Potsdam’s doorstep. In 1744, he had a terraced garden designed in Sanssouci Park for this reason. But, due to the exceptionally beautiful view,  the idea crossed the king’s mind of a large summer residence above the terraces just a year later. In addition, the New Palace and the picture gallery were constructed in subsequent years, while the slopes of the castle were used as flower and vegetable gardens. Today, you will also find Frederick II’s tomb on the castle hill. On the pile of ruins to the north of the castle, artificial sections of ruins were grouped into a staffage of the art of the ancient world, which concealed a water basin at the same time. Fountains in the park were to be supplied with water from this. The king was attached above all to the lavish waterworks, which he could only enjoy once in the end, as the system only worked properly after the construction of the steam engine building in the 19th century. The baroque garden, which had gone out of fashion in the meantime, was redesigned in the style of a landscape park under Frederick the Great’s successors and was expanded by Frederick William IV by structures such as Charlottenhof Castle, the orangery and the Roman Baths. They were to bring part of Italy to his native country for him. It is a matter of fact that the castles in Sanssouci Park are a breathtaking backdrop for events such as the Potsdam court concerts or the musical festivals.

These are pictures of the outside.  The detail was amazing!!  In the bottom left picture is a picture of his grave.  This is the 3rd location of his gave.  They thought that he was too important to be buried here back when he died in the 1700's.  They moved his body here in the 1900's.

This was the first room in the castle.  Every inch had so much detail and it was amazing how it was decorated.  The pink bench was just for decoration.  You can see how narrow it is.  No one ever sat on it.
Image
More rooms.  The detail is AMAZING!  Most of this house has all the original decor.   The picture on the top right corner is of him and his parents.

Here are just a few pictures of the outside.  This windmill was really cool.  You could go up to the top.  I love the cobblestone ground.  Everyone you go the ground is a amazing.  The bottom right picture is where we ate.  They had the best potato soup.  The best food I have had here yet.  The guy in the middle bottom was playing the flute for money.

Driving to the castle all the houses were amazing.  I wish that I had pictures of them.  I love the style here.  I wish it was like this back in CA.

After the castle we left for Berlin.  We got to the hotel and then went on a bus tour of Berlin.  I tired to take pictures but they did not turn out since we were in a bus and it was dark.  The tour was awesome. We went around to see the Berlin wall, churches, hotels, museums and so on. The buildings here are amazing.  The detail is amazing!   We split away from our group and went out to a nice dinner with our friends that we came here with.  The food was really good.  We had pork ribs that were slow cooked for 12 hours.  After we ate dinner we met back up with about 12 people from our group and rode the subway and got lost.  We finally got home at 1:30 am.  I know it's not that late but it is late for me.  LOL.  It was a really fun night!  We are going to be exploring Berlin in the morning.  Look forward to a ton of pictures in the next post:).

Germany Trip - Post 4 Day 2

This morning we woke up at 5:30 to get ready to go to the HUGE Ad Expo.  We had to drive about 1 1/2 hours to get there.  The time change has finally caught up to me and I am exhausted!  Luckily I was able to sleep on the way to the Ag Expo.  This place was amazing!!  There were about 34 different (HUGE) building all filled with every kind of farm equipment possible.  They had huge tractors to the GPS systems.   It was packed wall to wall with people in every building.  We got there at 9:30 and we left at 5:30.  It was a very long day.  Looking at farm equipment for that long takes a lot out of you.

This is where we ate lunch.  It was a really fun atmosphere.  There was a live band going and everyone was loud!!  The food was pretty good.  I ordered the beef stroganoff.  It is not like american stroganoff.  Steve ordered pork that looked like a big chicken nugget.  LOL  I am still trying to get used to it.

More farm equipment!!  In the top middle picture the New Holland tractor was lined with jean material.  It was cute.

After we left we came to the hotel (2 hour drive and the bus driver got lost).  I was able to sleep about an hour on the bus.  Once we got here they were missing about 15 couples names on the check in list.  It took us about an hour to check in and finally get a room.  The room is nice.  It looks like the other room we had.  Luckily we don't have to be to the bus until 8 am tomorrow.  We are going to a castle then onto Berlin!  Tomorrow will be a really fun day and I will have more pictures to post.

We are having the experience of a lifetime.  It is so crazy to be in a different country.  There are only 2 things I don't like here.  1. Everyone SMOKES!! It is so gross.  2. There is so much tagging everywhere.  This country is beautiful but every where you look there is graffiti.

Germany trip- Post 3 Day 1

What a fun day we had today!!  Today we spent the day in Hamburg.  Germany is awesome. The buildings are amazing, the streets are pretty clean and everyone dresses nice!

We arrived at our hotel at 8:30. The hotel was very nice. The beds were a little different but comfy. The shower was also different and the bath was deep and narrow. It was very nice to take a bath in a deep tub.

We had free time until 2:30. Most everyone in our group went and took a nap but I thought to myself, why would I want to take a nap when I could go walk around. We got cleaned up, went to the front desk and asked where to go.

We walked to a shopping area about 20 minutes away. There was so much shopping. We didn't buy anything. Everything was expensive they had a lot of the same brands that we have in the US.  We ate lunch at a pizza and pasta place. The restaurant was good. It is weird that they serve all drinks in glass bottles. There are no free refills:).  The food was good.

We came back to the hotel around 2:00 to get ready to go on a boat tour. We had to walk for about 30 minutes to the boat tour. The boat tour was fun but got a little boring.  We went all all around the harbor, they showed us the ports and also showed us how they get the big crates off the boat. We went down the little canal and we went through a gate that marks off from where the ocean ends and the river begins. They were also building new walls to keep the water out. There is so much construction going on. Everywhere we went buildings were getting added onto or a facelift. I did fall asleep a couple of times on the boat. Lol. While on the boat ride we met some new friends. It made the ride much better.

After the boat tour we walked about twenty minutes and went to the Fishmarket Resturant. Luckily they served pork because Steve and I do not like fish.  We ate dinner with a fun group and had many laughs. The food was pretty good.

After we ate dinner we walked home. We split apart from the larger group because they finished eating first. We were trying to find our way back from the Hotel and made a wrong turn and went down the street called. As we were waking down the street we saw a lot of girls just standing and they all had moon boots on. I was thinking what the... And then it dawned on me. They were prostitutes. I was like oh man... Can we walk a little faster!

Right across the street from our hotel they had a carnival set up. On our way back to the hotel we stopped and walked through it. It was defiantly a little different. They didn't have annoying people asking you to play games. It was very clean and it was on cement instead of dirt. There was a ride that I had to go on. It was so tall and it spun you around and around. When we got on the ride they move you up to the top so they can out people on on the other side we were up in the air for a good 5 minutes. It was amazing to see out and look over the city!  That was by far the best ride I have ever been on. The picture does not give this ride justice:)

Image
After the ride we went back to the hotel and went to bed!  It felt so good to go to bed. I had gotten about 3 house of sleep in 40 hours!!

Germany trip- post 1

Last picture before we left. Poor Lucas had a hard time when we left. He cried for about 15 minutes. The only way we could get him to calm down was to tell him that Santa won't bring presents to kids who cry ( I know kind of mean). The other 2 did good. Image
