Dearest D

Image
First thing this morning, my dearest D was up, and out the door. He wanted to chop wood, to refill the log store. Making sure his family would be nice and warm, when the snow came. Even though it was so cold today, he didn't stop until it was all done, and tidied away.

Image
Finishing just as the first flurry of snow came down.

Image
I had a nice hot cup of tea waiting for him, and a joint of beef in the oven.

Thank you D, you do so much for us. Where would we be without you? x

Thrifty finds

Image
After days of white snow, some spring colour was needed. When I saw these pretty flowers, how could I not take them home?

Image

Laura Ashley fabric , and a tablecloth for £1.99 had to come along too.

Image

After a quick freshen up, they were ready to go on show.

Image
When I set the table, I couldn't believe what a great match they were.

Image
They were made for each other.

Image

So pretty, every time I walk in and see them, they remind me that spring is just around the corner x.

Spring is in the air

Image

This morning something was different, it felt warm, spring like. I flung open the windows the let the house breath. I checked our little weather station and it told me it was 8 degrees outside. We had to get out there, and go for a walk.

Image
We headed out the gate, little ones, sleep over friends, the dog, and me.

Image

We turned left up the lane.

Image
Passed clumps of snowdrops on the banking.

Image
Kept on climbing.

Image

Two minutes later we were at the cattle grid, and on the moor.

Image
They were off!

Image
They left me with my camera. I love it up here, everywhere you turn there is beautiful scenery.

Image
Even on a hazy day, like today.

Image
They came back to show me there treasures.

Image

We took the track that led us back home.

Image
Passed the neighbours flock.

Image
Back down the lane.

Image
Stopping to look down on the village below,

Image

and back home. To toasted currant tea cakes with lots of butter.

Image
Yes it really does feel as though spring is in the air.

Image
So if anybody wants me I'll be outside x.

Flippin' eck!

Bring in the Spring

Image
Now that we have entered March, (can't believe it's here already!). I've been thinking more about the garden. I took myself off to the local nursery for a little look at all the Spring offerings.

Image
Row upon row of beautiful viola, bright primula, and pots of crocuses. It was such a pleasure to be in amongst so much colour.

Image

I wanted to scoop it all up, and take everything home with me.

Image
I did show some restraint, and came away with a little trolley full of promise.

Image
I planted up tubs and troughs.

Image
Clumps of grape hyacinth, I'm hoping will put in a good show for Mothers Day.

Image
Painted up terracotta pots, to house cyclamen.

Image
Wondered where to put this beautiful bell plant,

Image
and found the perfect spot to display the blue hydrangea.

Image
Now I'm done with Winter.

Diggers at dawn

Image
Diggers arrived at dawn today, disturbing the peace up here on the moors. Not that the sheep paid any attention. They were too busy tucking into breakfast.

Image
They're here to start work on our stream, to dig it out and make a pond. We are hoping to have it all done for Easter, and have some ducks and geese waddling around. I'm so excited to be getting some new additions to our family. We've been planning and dreaming of this for a long time.

Image
But in the mean time we are dealing with lots and lots of mud, and I can't keep the little ones out of it!

Image
So we got out of the way and left them to it, taking  a trip to Grassington .
It's a beautiful village in the Yorkshire Dales that ticks all my boxes.

Image
Cobbled streets,

Image
cute cottages,

Image
and fantastic shops,

Image

with lots of Yorkshire charm thrown in for good measure. One of my favourite shops is the lovely Rustic Rabbit, I can never leave empty handed.

Image
It's the perfect place to escape from all that mud. I came out with three bags full.

Image
I'll share my goody bags with you soon, and let you know how the pond is progressing x.
