Dear Festividder,
Ah, that time.
It has come once more.
A good time.
Thanks muchly for making a vid for me, I look forward to it!
The usual disclaimer: vid what you want, how you want it, it's gonna be dope. π
Below is some more detail about my requests β really just rambling β should you require it.
Trigger-wise, I don't have any physical triggers.
And my requests shouldn't contain any others that you need to worry about.
I love music so much, across all genres, use whatever you want.

I've split things up, first the safety fandoms, then the longer stuff.

I got two very excellent vids this, please check them out, they are so great:
You Told The Drunks I Knew Karate (BFU) from stardust_rain
Music (Jungle music videos) from ultraviolet_catastrophe
But I also made three vids! Whereas usually I manage two, so that's neat. And since people have talked about their vidding process, I thought I might too!
undo u (Hard-Boiled) for caramarie
This was my assignment! When I offered it I was like oh man, I'm gonna make a vid to Turbo Killer by Carpenter Brut and it's going to be so fucking epic. And then I actually got the assignment and I was like... I don't think it will work? But I was fixated on this 90s synth matchup so I had a listen through Carpenter Brut's discography to see if there was a different song that worked, and I almost went with Looking for Tracy Tzu but I decided I should maybe widen my perspective a bit instead. To find a song that might not be the 90s synth matchup made in heaven but that works better as a vid song.
So I had a very fun few weeks listening to music old and new (to me). There were days when I was at work and I'd suddenly go Italo Disco! And then I'd spend the evening listening to Italo Disco. Didn't find a vid song, but listened to a bunch of banger tracks, so time well spent all in all. I never considered it for this vid, but Poison Lips by Vitalic was probably my favorite of the lot that I listened to.
I'd also make playlists with a bunch of random shit and then go on walks to listen to them. I was growing a bit tired of cramming so much music into my head, so I took a break from music as homework and put on 4x4, the new Ninajirachi EP just for fun, just because I wanted to. And then I paid attention to the lyrics and I was like waiiiiiiit a minute! Took a few days to mull it over, decided that yes, this is my vid song. The only regret I have is that it's a bit short. I don't care about duration for treats, but I feel a bit bad that the assignment vid I made is only 2 minutes long. :/
I also did not set out to make this a vid about Tony Leung's character, I swear! Back at the start I expected this to be a "this is that movie" action vid. But the lyrics only allowed for this POV. That also meant I had to skip everything from before Tony Leung's character shows up, a lot of great stuff I couldn't include, like the entire tea room scene, which is a million minutes long and the only bigger number is the body count it produces. What a ridiculous movie, I love it. π
Actually making the vid was pretty uneventful. It was the hardest of my three vids to make, not sure why, but I didn't struggle. Or if I did struggle, I have already forgotten about it. π
rescue cats to relax/study to for ultraviolet_catastrophe
I read fray's festivids letter to see if I had any ideas for it, but couldn't come up with anything, so I didn't offer anything from it (I think). But I *did* end up watching a whole bunch of Flatbush Cats videos because of it, quietly sniffling to myself. π π (they're good cats!)
The other thing that happened was that Spotify recommended L'Orange's album "Old Soul" to me. As if it was a new release! When it absolutely is not, I played that album up and down in, like, 2012 or something. Maybe it's a remaster? But I hadn't listened to the album in years, so I humbled Spotify and pressed play. And then "The Good Shepherd" came on, while I had the Flatbush Cats on my mind, and those two linked up. Which is how I get all my vid ideas, thing X was on my mind while song Y played and they became one.
This was after signups had closed, but before I had even started my assignment vid. And the assignment vid always comes first, so I put the idea aside for later. I actually ended up making this before I had submitted my assignment, though. I had a full timeline for it and I wanted to put it aside for a few days before making final adjustments. And so I did this one in-between and submitted them both on deadline day. This was by far the easiest of the vids. Just sprinkle cute kitties over the timeline, done! π
This is why I love festivids so much. I had no idea this organisation/youtube channel existed before fray talked about it. And then in the span of a few weeks I binged so many of their videos and made a fanvid for it. π Thanks fray, for introducing me to them!
Anymore (Face/Off) for periru3
While looking for a song for the Hard Boiled vid, I thought of ΓTNA pretty early on as a band who's vibe would fit. And I considered Like That Game, which I've wanted to vid Enemies to Lovers to for a long time. I didn't go with it because Chow Yun-fat's character and Tony Leung's character have more screen time working together than against each other, there wouldn't have been enough footage for it. But! While listening through the discography of ΓTNA, I came across "Anymore" and I was like damn, this would be perfect for a Face/Off vid! And cackled to myself while playing "I don't blame anyone but that's not me anymore" on a loop. So I put it aside for a treat idea.
All of that is to say that we came very close to me making a double feature of two John Woo movies set to two ΓTNA songs. π
Making the vid was a lot of fun. The beginning was tricky because it turns out it's hard to establish a POV if the face of the dude switches. π I don't know if I did a good job of explaining to the viewer what's going on, but I'm happy with how it turned out. I did that part a week or so before go-live. And I also had the ending. And everything else in-between I made the evening/night before go-live. Plus I also fiddled some more with the beginning and end. I wish I had had a bit more time, because so many parts I know I could have matched up better to the music. I'm pretty happy with everything else, though. And in the end, if it had really bothered me, I could have kept working on it and released that improved version for reveals, but I didn't. So there.
And there you have it, the story of my festivids. Gosh, that is SO MANY words in the end, sorry. And, like, 99% is about music, but welcome to my vidding brain, it is indeed 99% about the music! π
Also! An enticing thing to end on: I had one more idea for a treat that I didn't get around to make, but maybe I'll get a chance next year!
Dear Festividder,
welcome to a list of things I like and you also, partially, at least on one count, hopefully, like.
Looking forward to your vid!
