5 Ways a Christian Woman Can Conquer Depression!
Let me start with this disclaimer: I am not a therapist, I am not a clinical psychologist, nor am I a psychiatry so if you are currently on medicine or getting treatment for depression, stay on your medicine and stay in treatment!
I just want to give you these tips to show you some additional ways to overcome and conquer depression for good.
Now with that being said I want you to know two things about depression. Depression is a spirit, and it has a voice. But through Jesus Christ, you have the power to speak to depression.
Secondly, just because you’re on medicine now does not mean you have to be on medicine for the rest of your life. So with that being said let’s get into five ways a Christian woman can conquer depression.
1) Stop saying that you’re depressed! The Bible says, in Proverbs 18:21 that death and life are in the power of the tongue.
Whatever you say is going to be magnified In fact, your words are magnifying glasses and whatever you put your words on is going to get bigger.
So if you keep saying “I’m depressed, I’m depressed,” guess what’s going to happen? You’re going to stay depressed and you’ll probably get even more depressed.
Since you shouldn’t keep talking about how depressed you are, then what should you say?
I will share it with you later in this article.
2) Spend quiet time with God. Psalm 16:11 says in His presence is fullness of joy at His right hand are pleasures forevermore, so being in God’s presence will give you joy, automatically.
But also Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, I know them and they follow Me.” (John 10:27) It’s very important for you to hear the voice of God.
Let me tell you a quick story. I was on the road to depression, a couple of weeks ago and let me tell you why.
I found out that was my favorite beauty supply store had burned down! (Please don’t judge me…)
And yes, there are many other beauty supply stores in my community, but when you get attached to a certain store, and it’s gone, you kind of think, “What do I do now?”
I had a lot to think about, so I spent some time with God. And guess what happened? God gave me a word. He told me to “amp up” (or increase) my prayer time by 15 minutes.
And you know what that did? It brought back the joy that reminded me that the stuff I was a little sad about was small compared to what He had in store for me.
For this reason, I want to encourage you to you spend quiet time with God. Now I am not saying you should to “amp up” your prayer life by 15 minutes. I’m just saying you should find some time to sit quietly with God to see what He’s saying specifically to you.
3) Find a scripture that deals with that depression. In fact, what are what are you depressed about, anyway?
Are you struggling with:
- Money problems?
- Health challenges?
- Marriage Problems?
If money is an issue, Philippians 4:19 “My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Maybe the enemy has attacked your body with sickness. 1 Peter 2:24 says that by the stripes of Jesus, you are healed.
If you’re dealing with marriage problems, or even if you want to be married, Matthew 6:33 says “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.”
There’s an answer to whatever you feel is causing the depression you’re facing. You just have to go to the Bible. If you’re not sure where to start, Google Scriptures for whatever you’re dealing with that’s causing you to feel depressed.
4) Fight! Earlier in this article I shared that depression is a spirit and that spirit has a voice. For this reason, you have to use your voice to speak to it and fight back when depression calls your name.
Let me tell you why you need to fight back. In Matthew 4, Jesus who is God, was in the wilderness, when the devil came to Him. In order for the devil to leave Jesus alone, He had to respond to the devil, it is written, so don’t think that you are just going to get through with just positive affirmations, and the devil will stop attacking you.
There’s nothing wrong with positive affirmations, but that will not keep the devil off of you.
The Word of God is the only weapon that will cause you to shut the enemy down.
Find your one Scripture. Then you meditate on it, speak it over and over you, and as you do it consistently, your heart is allowing God’s Word to become bigger in your heart than the problem associated with the depression you’re facing. As a result, you can defeat the devil and the depression he’s attacking you with. Just don’t give up on using God’s Word. You have to say something, so let it be the Word of God.
5) You must have a vision. Some people may refer to this as their “Why?”
The Bible says a couple things about vision. It says, Write the vision make it plain, and without a vision the people perish. (Habakkuk 2)
You must have a vision. In fact, let me ask you, “What’s your vision?”
My sister if you don’t know your vision, then why are you here on earth?
Now, maybe you don’t know your vision. That’s why I want to help you.
I want you to join us on Tuesday nights at 7:30 pm EST for ESPN Wives and Future Wives via Zoom.
We’re going to discuss the power of vision and how having vision will propel you to fulfill the purpose of God for your life.
