Celebrating 50 years of More-with-Less
Herald Press and Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) invite you to share stories of food, joy, and resilience to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of More-with-Less cookbook by Doris Janzen Longacre. The cookbook’s blend of wholesome recipes and commitment to thrift, Christian compassion, and abundant living remains as urgent and relevant today as it was in 1976. We hunger for food that nourishes our bodies and for connection that refreshes our souls and nurtures our communities.

Submissions may be featured in the 50th anniversary edition or additional digital resources, available in September 2026.

More-with-Less and other titles in the World Community Cookbook series are commissioned by and support the work of MCC, a global nonprofit organization that seeks to share God’s love and compassion for all through relief, development, and peacebuilding. Preorder your copy today!

Option 1. Share about a time you witnessed or experienced resilience, generosity, or joy through food. It could involve a More-with-Less recipe, but it doesn’t have to. Maybe you participated, or maybe you observed. Maybe you gave, and maybe you received. We would love to hear stories of celebration, generosity, and building bridges of solidarity and community. We welcome family stories, service and activism stories, church stories, work stories, neighborhood stories, local and global stories.

Option 2. Share some of your “more with less” tips: practices and ideas for simple or celebratory eating, hosting, and sharing. These may be inherited from family and your own culture, inspired by a host culture, or your own inventions.
Option 3. Share a favorite blessing or poem or brief mediation that connects with themes of resilience, generosity, and joy. Please tell us where you learned it, or if you are the author.
