How to break down a 3d printable mesh in the open source 3d modeling program Blender :
Take your solid mesh, select the section you want to separate hit “space”. Type in separate in the text bar, an option for separate will appear. click the option and select “from selected”. That object is now it’s own object. Rename obj, if desired. Repeat as needed.
After the mesh is separated go to the modifier menu. with an object selected, add a solidify modifier. Make sure you put your object into “Object mode”, you won’t be able to do this in “Edit mode”(tab will switch it back and forth between the two modes). add desired thickness with the modifier menu, check the uniformed thickness if wanted, then apply. Make sure that you apply the same thickness to all objects.
You now have a water tight mesh that can be printed and assembled! Save as seperate objects or lay them out in a grid, for later processing.
