B-Roll

Image
A videographer from Taiwan's EBC News shoots b-roll video of planes taking off from HNL's "Reef Runway" during the 2024 RIMPAC exercises, and he's waiting for this Delta Air Lines Boeing 767 to taxi past, as jet fighters were lining up to take off.

B-Roll is a TV production term for extra footage shot that will be added to a live or pre-recorded news report, sports broadcast, or feature piece.

Silence Of Night

Hau‘oli Makahiki Hou! Happy New Year!

This photo was taken from Maunalani Heights, overlooking Palolo Valley and metro Honolulu, at 2:30A. It was extremely quiet above the city. A rain cell is blowing out of Mānoa Valley.

I took this photo after my dad passed away about 2 hours earlier. After I got the call, I went up to talk with the nurses, and wait for the mortuary to pick him up. That took a while, and one of the nurses said I could sit out on the lanai. I spent time in prayer, listening to praise and worship music, while enjoying the cool breeze, and felt God's peace.

Pineapple Drop

Image
While New York City has the ball drop at midnight on New Year's Eve, the town of Mililani in Central O‘ahu has the Pineapple Drop on New Year's Eve. Prior to development beginning in the mid-1960s, the land from the Kīpapa Gulch to Wahiawā, consisted mostly of pineapple fields.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

Baptism

Image
It's been almost a year since my Dad graduated to Heaven. One of the proudest moments I have as his son, was when he decided to get baptized about a year after receiving Jesus. Dad is pictured with Pastor Elwin Ahu of Metro Christian Church after his baptism at Ala Moana Beach in 2013.

Also, we wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Keawaula Blowhole

Image
At Keaweula Beach Park, also known as Yokohama Bay, there is a blowhole within the rocks along the shoreline. While not as well known as the Halona Blowhole on O‘ahu's east shoreline, this one does have some impressive spouts when the waves are right.

Ewa Airfield Memorial

Image
On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Pearl Harbor Naval Base was not the only military that came under attack. Located seven miles from Pearl Harbor, was the Marine Corps Air Station Ewa, which neighbored Naval Air Station Barbers Point. MCAS Ewa also came under attack that morning. Marines shot at the attacking aircraft, but four Marines paid the ultimate sacrifice, and 12 were injured. This marker commemorates the four fallen Marines.

The base served throughout World War II, and into the Korean Conflict, However, it was closed in 1952, and absorbed into NAS Barbers Point. Part of the airfield and aircraft revetments remain untouched, with a lot of overgrowth. Part of the former MCAS is now the Barbers Point Golf Course (opened in 1966), owned and operated by the US Navy.

Hickam Army Airfield, Schofield Barracks, and Wheeler Army Airfield also came under attack on this fateful day 84 years ago.
