So Dave was recently offered a job in South Carolina to work with his old boss, in Myrtle Beach. We have been contemplating it for a few months and decided to take a trip to see if we liked it. My sister Brooke was kind enough to take Kade for the week, while we took the girls. I am lucky enough to have a mom who works for the airlines and we were able to fly round trip for $200.00. Although the downer from flying on buddy passes is you are stand by which will come into play later.
We flew the red eye to JFK and connected to Raliegh and had to drive about 3 hrs. to get to Myrtle Beach. All went very smoothly besides being exhausted and not sleeping at all. Luckily the girls were so good.
We finally made it to our hotel which was awesome it had a ocean front view and a full kitchen. One morning I even saw two dolphins jumping. One thing about a big tourist town in the dead of winter is it really was dead in the winter. Dave's former boss showed us the sites and we toured some houses. Which by the way you get a lot more bang for your buck, and it doesn't hurt that you are only 4 miles from the beach. There was great shopping and tons of fun things to do.
With all of those great things I mentioned you would thing WOW easy decision right, wrong. I am extremely close to my family my mom is like my best friend and my kids absolutley adore their grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Taking them accross the country to grow up without any family whatsoever would just be sad. I know from experiance I never grew up with any family besides one grandma who lived by us. Also we talked to a few people who lived there and they all said that they love it their except they wish they were with their family. They also get a lot of rain in the summer, which I like my summers dry and sunny, not to mention hurricanes. I also feel like we would live in a bubble. Although they pretty much have everything you need, still to get to any other big city would be a 2 or 3 hour drive.
Anyway back to the story I had talked to my mom about 2 days into the trip making sure our flight home was still looking good, it did. The day before we were coming home I got a call from my mom telling me that there were 40 people ahead of us on standby list. Basically there was no way we would get on. All the flights until the next week were booked and my girls turned 2 on Friday,(which we would then have to pay for} we would not make it home until possibly the following Monday. I think I have the worlds greatest mom, she flew on the red eye to JFK and waited another 7 hours in the airport to meet us their so we would be able to get on the flight, because if you fly with an employee your status is immediatly bumped up. To make things even worse our flight from Raliegh got in and 11:21 and boarding for SLC was 11:26 by the way the gates were at the complete opposite side of the terminal. We were luckily enough to get on and made it home. Thanks to my GREAT mom!!!
Anybody with some words of advise please feel free to let me know.
Conway river this river can acutually take you all the way to Flordia, and yes their are alligators in it.
This was one of the houses I like especially the kitchen. I didn't get any picures of the other house I liked.
View from our balcony.
