CHARACTER NAME; Jinora
AGE; 11
CANON; Avatar: The Legend of Korra
CANON POINT; End of season 2, following Korra's press conference at the end of "Light in the Dark".
FAMILY TYPES;
Nature Spirits: Growing up Jinora has had a fairly normal and peaceful upbringing (as peaceful as things can get with two siblings like Ikki and Meelo, anyway). She's also in general a calm and collected person as well as very spiritual.
Wind Guardians: As an Airbender Jinora definitely has an affinity for the air. She is the only one of her siblings (so far) who has shown an interest in her cultural heritage which could be taken as a desire to prove herself whether it's to her father, the other Air Acolytes or the world at-large.
Jungle Troopers: Of her siblings Jinora is the quietest and most reserved. Her most favorite activities are reading and playing the board game Pai Sho.
Virus Busters: Jinora would never hesitate to do the right thing, and when push comes to shove would rather stand and fight rather than hide away in safety as her elders would wish. She has even been willing to sacrifice her own soul for the sake of the entire world.
APPEARANCE;
Jinora stands at around the average height for a girl her age with a slim build, brown hair and brown eyes. Her hair is commonly worn up, pulled up into a small bun on the top right side of her head held by a red cord; she has not yet received her blue arrow Airbending tattoos. Her orange and yellow robes are the same kind worn by Avatar Aang and the Air Nomads of the past. Coming in from her canon point Jinora will also be wearing a long red coat and shin-high brown boots to protect her from the cold of the South Pole.
PERSONALITY;
A quietly reserved little girl, studious and calm and overall much different from her rambunctious younger siblings. Out of Tenzin and Pema's four children she is the most mature. Normally sweet and polite, Jinora has exhibited signs of becoming enough of a deadpan snarker to make her great-uncle Sokka proud; for example, when asked by her father not to grow up to be a frustrating, complicated teenager like Avatar Korra Jinora famously replied, "I will make no such promise."
An avid reader, it isn't unusual for Jinora to be seen with a book in her hand even at the dinner table. Her favorite stories are historical romances and her father's journals chronicling the adventures Avatar Aang and Team Avatar. She was in awe of Wan Shi Tong's spirit library when she visited it in the Spirit World, commenting that she could stay there forever reading. Because of her studious nature Jinora is able to rattle off tidbits of information in conversation with very little prompting. Sometimes this can be beneficial, such as when she educated Wan Shi Tong about how radios work. Most of the time this habit of hers has no real place in conversation and merely makes her look like a know-it-all.
Overall Jinora has a close, fairly normal relationship with her family. Like any older sister she does come into conflict with her sister and younger brother on a semi-regular basis (Rohan being too young to participate in sibling rivalry just yet), particularly with Ikki. The two sisters have their share of squabbles, enough for Ikki to call Jinora "mean and bossy". Once Jinora realizes she's stepped over the line, like when her teasing caused Ikki to run away during the family's vacation, she'll apologize sincerely.
The two most important relationships in Jinora's life are with her father and Avatar Korra. She loves her father and, for the most part, obeys him. Of her siblings Jinora seems to be the most interested in her father's teachings about Air Nomad history and culture; she was the only one to take Tenzin's tour of the Southern Air Temple seriously and show genuine interest in it while Ikki and Meelo raced around on air scooters. This is partly because of her position as the first female airbender to be born after the 100 Year War, and the second-oldest airbender in the world after her father. Over and over as she's grown up Jinora has heard how important her existence is to her heritage and to the spiritual balance of the world. Because of these factors, while she loves her father dearly Jinora also constantly fears disappointing or angering him. It was part of the reason that she was reluctant to reveal her spiritual connection, and afterward it was fairly easy for Jinora to interpret Tenzin's wounded pride as anger.
Her relationship with Avatar Korra is pretty sisterly, albeit without a lot of the teasing and squabbles that occur between Jinora and Ikki. The young Avatar has been a constant presence in Jinora's life since the latter was a baby, thanks to the family's constant visits to Gran-Gran Katara in the South Pole where Katara was teaching Korra waterbending. On Air Temple Island Jinora frequently assisted Korra with her airbending training, and she also provided counsel on matters of the heart. Of course Jinora's idea of romance leaves something to be desired; her advice to Korra about how to talk to Mako came from a book in which the heroine rode a dragon, burned down an entire country and then killed herself in a volcano over her lost love.
Jinora and Korra also share a deep spiritual connection, thanks to Jinora's sensitivity to spirits and the Avatar being part spirit because of the fusion with the Light Spirit Raava. The connection was first forged on the night that Korra opened the spirit portal in the South Pole; at that same time Jinora was drawn to the statue room in the Southern Air Temple where she witnessed the illumination of the statue of Avatar Wan and Raava. When Korra was fighting against Unalaq/the Dark Avatar Jinora was able to sense Raava's death and realized that Korra needed her help. During the battle Jinora used Raava's residual light that had remained in the Spirit World to revive her, allowing Korra to free Raava from the Dark AVatar.
While she was in the spirit world Jinora became trapped in the Fog of Lost Souls, imprisoned in her darkest fear of losing her Airbending, a fear that developed after she and her family were briefly captured by Amon. Jinora has seen the little respect given to her uncle and aunt by the Air Acolytes because they aren't airbenders. Although she knows that her friends and family love her some part of Jinora still fears being treated the same way if she were to lose her bending.
Despite her young age Jinora has displayed a great amount of courage. She was willing to give up her soul in exchange for keeping the world safe when Unalaq threatened her to make Korra open the Northern spirit portal. She also took on the Equalist Lieutenant during the Battle of Air Temple Island when he was going to kill Lin Beifong. However this behavior could also be viewed as reckless since she was a child going up against a grown adult.

THIRD PERSON:
Standing on the steps of the royal palace alongside her family as Korra addressed the newly-independent Southern Water Tribe Jinora tried to quash the giddy feeling in her stomach, a feeling that seemed to manifest itself in the urge to bounce on the balls of her feet in excitement. Never in her wildest dreams had she imagined that she would be standing here, counted among the Avatar's closest allies. It was just like something right out of one of Dad's books! But Dad and Gran-Gran were standing on either side of her, calm and serene as the Avatar spoke, so Jinora resolved to be the same.
As Korra talked about leaving the spirit portals open and humans and spirits needing to learn to live together in peace, Jinora stole a quick glance to where Uncle Bumi was standing. The little dragonfly-bunny spirit that her uncle had dubbed "Bum-Ju" was perched on his shoulder; occasionally Bumi would stroke the side of Bum-Ju's face with his finger and Bum-Ju would nuzzle his cheek in reciprocation. Seeing them together made Jinora smile, but at the same time she felt a pang of envy and loneliness in her own heart.
Furry Foot... She hadn't seen her little friend since the Spirit World, when a corrupted Furry Foot had taken Jinora to the Fog of Lost Souls and left her there. What had happened to her? Was Furry Foot still somewhere in the spirit world, a dark and twisted version of herself? Or had Korra's purification of the Dark Avatar in turn purified Furry Foot and all of the other spirits that Unalaq had corrupted?
Jinora wished that she knew. Part of her wanted to enter the Southern spirit portal and search for herself but she knew that her father would be reluctant to let Jinora anywhere near the spirit world for quite a while. And to tell the truth Jinora was a bit apprehensive about it herself. Right now what she wanted most was to go back home to her mother, sister and brothers.
