Betty Mae Tiger Jumper, the subject of SHE SANG PROMISE, is honored in the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame & by her traditional singing recorded on two Smithsonian music CDs. She was a teen on her first day of Kindergarten, where she couldn’t read or write English. She became a path-setting nurse, newspaper editor, an author and a legendary storyteller for her people.
She served a U.S. President on an advisory committee.
In 1967, she was the first woman elected a leader of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. And, she also wrestled alligators.
