Dental School and other ramblings

Since I have never written in a journal, I guess I'll put something up here, so in 4 years I can remember what I thought about the 1st year of dental school.

Currently we are about half way through the first semester (which equals 1/16 through DS).  Our first year is spent at the med school at the U of U, then our last 3 years are out at Creighton in Omaha.  Since we spend a year with the med students, for all intents and purposes that is what I am right now.  After my first day of class, I was having second thoughts on giving up my pilot career to go through 4 more years of school.  Luckily, things have got much better since that first week, and I feel much better about the decision.  On that note, I am REALLY glad that I choose to be a dentist not a doctor... can you imagine up to another 8 years of training post med school graduation!!!

On top of a busy school schedule, life at home has been pretty busy as well.  We opted to live with my parents while we were down in SLC, to save us some money over the 9 months that we will be here.  It just so happens that my sister and her family (4 kids) sold their house and needed a place to stay until they found a new home... so they also would be staying at my parents house.  Well if you can't do the math, that is 10 people living under 1 roof... Kinda hectic.  Needless to say, I usually stay at school to study, so I'm there from 8am-8pm.  So 10 people living in one house is definitely hectic, but its been pretty cool. I've got to hang out with my nieces, learn more about my brother in law, and focus on not spitting logies on my sister like I did growing up.  They just found a new house and are moving this week, and I'm not quite sure what we'll do with them gone.

On a different note, Tballs is definitely pregnant.  She has recently gained the nickname "waddles".  I've been kinda upset about the timing of this kid thus far (or the fact that we are having a kid period), but once he started to beat t-neal up from the inside out, its kind of cool.  I guess she doesn't like it very much, but its pretty rad to see the little kid kicking and punching... It kind of makes it a little more real I guess.

While I'm on the subject of Tballs...I guess I'll mention that she started taking flying lessons.  I'm pretty stoked for her... well, because she is doing something I love.  She says it because she wants to do something out of her comfort zone, plus if we are going to eventually take our family on trips in our own airplane someone else needs to know how to land, in case I pass out.  Whatever the reason, I think its awesome that she is getting over her quasi fear of flying.  hopefully she will solo before she has the baby, then finish up her license before we leave for omaha.

BOY oh BOY!

Image

IT'S A BOY!

We couldn't be more excited.  Cody and I were able to get an ultrasound of the little guy today and it was amazing to actually see a growing baby inside my tummy.  The ultrasound tech really couldn't get any clear shots of the baby because he was moving around so much...he was practicing his 360˚ turns already!  He'll be ready for a wake board in no time.

Everything looks healthy, which is what I was the most worried about.  I was happy to see 10 fingers/toes and his cute little face.  When I first saw this image (above), I was like, "Oh no!! What's wrong with his head??"  The tech assured me that it's just the imaging equipment and his head is just fine.  Phew!

The doctor changed my due date to December 12, 2011.  Since we are moving to Salt Lake, we are currently trying to find a good doctor down there.  Any suggestions are welcome!

This pregnancy is finally starting to feel real. I am getting bigger everyday as evidenced by the pants I tried to put on this morning.  What the heck...they fit three days ago!!  Oh well.  At least this cute little baby is growing.  That is all that matters right now and we couldn't be happier.

Our Bun in the Oven

Image

Yes, you may have to take a second look, but I am indeed updating our blog! Can you believe it?  Well I figure that since I'm pregnant, I better update the blog every so often because before you know it, the little bean will be here!  Here are a few tidbits of the pregnancy thus far:

1) I'm due December 8th!
2) I eat like a champ...and you can tell! (sorry no belly shots are going to be posted yet)
3) I had a dream that I birthed a puppy
4) We find out what we are having on July 20th
5) Cody experiences pregnancy symptoms too...awww, what a guy
6) I am still dealing with nausea, headaches, and feeling sick all over.  It means the baby will be healthy, right?
7)  I crave cottage cheese and slices of cheddar cheese ALL the time.  I also am not too fond of sweet things, but love salt more than I did before, which may be hard to believe.
8) I take a nap almost every day...it is crazy how much energy you LOSE when you are pregnant!
9) It is SO hard to motivate myself to work out!  I used to workout about 15 hours/week. (I know, that was overload, but I was teaching fitness classes!) Now I probably work out about 4 hours/week.
10) I felt the baby move for the first time the other night...it felt like bubbles in my stomach.  Pretty cool!
11) My husband is the only one allowed to touch my belly.  I didn't know that I would have such a freak out about other people touching my belly, but I do!  Can't help it.
12) I realized I am the most impatient person I know.  I'm only 16 weeks into the pregnancy and I'm already like, "Okay, I'm ready to have this baby!" Hmmmmpph...24 more weeks to go.
13) Even though the first part of pregnancy is the pits, I am really excited to be a MOMMY! I have a lot to learn, but luckily have had some great examples in my life to follow.

The last few months!!!

When you don't live in a big city, don't travel, don't have kids, are not pregnant, or don't have any exciting news it is hard to keep a current blog.  Its a good way to keep track of you own life though (read online journal) since we don't keep real jounals, so I guess here is the boring life of Tennille and Cody for the last couple months.

First off, we bought a new car.  Our Contour was on its last leg so we figured we needed to get a new car and sell the Contour before it died all together.  Well we bought the new car, then no one wanted to buy the contour so... Now we are stuck with 3 cars.  That's probably a good thing though, because once summer comes and gas prices are around $4.00/ gallon, the natural gas Contour will sell for a lot more.  Anyway our new car is  2006 Scion XB.

Tennille's business Alotta Pilates is doing great.  Her schedule has gotten so busy that she now has hired 2 other instructors to help keep up with the classes.  She personally teaches more than 40 classes a month, on top of her other part time job working for a contractor.  She has had the opportunity to plan, coordinate, and execute 2 very successful charity events, where she has raised almost $1000 dollars.  Most recently she did a charity event for The American Heart Association. She had 6 instructors and over 85 students participate in the event.  It was a big "Party Hearty"

Cody has successfully recruited almost all of his friends to learn to play hockey, so he spends a good amount of his time at the ice rink.  It's definitely good for him though to have an outlet from so much studying and school.  Its always fun to watch "c league" games because most people barley know how to skate.  In this league there is everyone from 30 year olds that have never skated before to 60 year old husband/wife couples that are really good.

Image

Cody also got a new job.  He works for a company called Jacques and Associates.  Basically they are a PR firm that work with UDOT on construction projects.  Cody's job is the Public Information Lead, which basically means he is the messenger for all bad news.  When someone has a complaint they call Cody, and he'll find the solution.  When they have to close a road or business access, they call Cody and he delivers the bad news.  Currently they are doing major construction on 1000 West in Logan, and that is the project he is working on right now.  Anyway, the company he works for is amazing!  For their Christmas party, they flew everyone out to Disneyland for a day.  Cody isn't much of a Disneyland fan, but he was excited for the break from Cache Valley.  Surprisingly, he came home with a new outlook on DL.  He really enjoyed it, and had a lot of fun.  I guess this goes down as the coolest Christmas party ever!!!
Image

We aren't big fans of the snow and winter (why do we live  in Logan you ask... good question) so finally after 5 years of not going, we gave in and went snowboarding.  It was only Tennille's 2nd time ever going and it had been 5 years since the last time.  Peter, Jerald, Jon, Molly, Afton, and Olivia all came along.  It ended up being a really fun day.  By the end of the day Tennille looked like a pro.  I wish we could afford to hit the mountain more than once every 5 years, but owell.
Image

We had our 5 year anniversary on February 17th.  Who would've ever thought that WE could last 5 years???  Not only that, but living in our modest Logan rental, and STILL going to school; we are happier together than we have ever been.  At a time that we have seen more divorce and failing marriages than ever, we have to count our blessings that we can stay happy as long as we have.

Image

Lastly, we just booked our last vacation for the next couple of years.  We figured with dental school starting in August, we won't have a chance to sneak away until it is over in 4 years.  We are spending 7 days touring through Spain (does anyone have suggestions of what to see there?) then we are doing a 7 day Mediterranean cruise that will start in Barcelona with stops in Florence Italy, Rome, Naples, and Palma de Mallorca Spain.  We are super excited.  If anyone has been to any of these places and has suggestions of what we need to see (or shouldn't see for that matter) please let us know
