Erika's Tips: Overcoming challenges with focusing on school work...

Focusing challenges can learning feel impossible for some kids and can frustrate a lot of parents, but we’re here to tell you not to give up hope. Being a different learner doesn’t mean you can’t learn, it just means you learn differently, and sometimes need some help. Trying talking to kids that struggle with focusing, and ask them how they learn best, and help them develop the strategies they need to overcome these challenges!

Erika’s tips for getting organized

  1. I suggest using dry erase markers – students can write on a window or mirror. They can make lists of things that they need to do, and can also practice writing and spelling, etc.
  2. Create a visible at-home schedule, for students of all ages, including the time to play or relax, and a time that clearly marks the end of the school day.
  3. Have them make a list each night of everything that needs to be accomplished the next day – have your student review their list each night to celebrate everything that they have accomplished.
  4. Establish a designated spot in the house for schoolwork – this will help them know that in that space they do their schoolwork, but outside of that space school is done.
  5. Use color coding or pictures to help students easily identify their notebooks and folders.
