| 3D Printers: I'm so out of date |

Been out of the game in 3D printer stuff. Used one of MakerBot's first generation printers and that was pretty much it. Was able to get a part printed for my old Honda Insight after a couple hours of trial and error. Other than that however, never really used it for anything serious as the build platform on that was a pain to deal with; even after the heated platform upgrade.
So much has changed since then and as I found out during San Diego Comic Con this year, there are now fancy 3D printers out there that do decent color printing. Apparently, one of my friends that I met at WonderFest and Monsterpalooza works at 3D Systems/Gentle Giant. Never inquired about his day job but by chance, I bumped into him at SDCC manning their booth. Talked for a bit and he showed me a Thanos that's fully 3D color printed using a powder like material. After talking a bit, got offered access to one of their ProJet 660Pro printers they have if I ever have a zBrush model I want to send him. To what extent that access is, I have to confirm as it's kind of hard to pass up an offer like that at the moment. No way the general consumer can afford a printer like that right now and even rapid prototype time on that printer costs still costs a couple thousand dollars for giant pieces, so I'm told.
With the above in mind, may just continue working on the zBrush sculpture that was done on long ago as a basis for Jeff Easley's "Big Red Dragon" sculpture:

There has been some improvements zBrush since I last played with it and one of the big things I hear people raving about is how version 4R7 now has easy integration with KeyShot for rendering. As time allows, going to give the digital sculpting platform a go again and as technology improves and things become more affordable, may offer up a smaller 3D printed variant of the Easley dragon statue. For me, it's a pain to cast all 29 sized pieces which are person sized. Also think for most people, the size of the statue makes it out of reach as it does take up quite a bit of room. The sticker shock also doesn't help. |

Update from the last set where 1 and 4 were the most popular. Now here's a slight refined sketch based on those two:

1a and 1b expands foreground of the primary hero characters while the second cleans up the clutter from the fourth sketch from the previous set of five drawings.
Choices, choices. |

Hello LJ friends. You have five sketch choices to turn into a oil painting. Which do you choose and why?

Diablo II is by far one of the best games I've played during the late '90s. Been mulling on having some wall art done based on the game. I now have the opportunity to do so. Just need to flesh out concepts and ideas! |

Small side project based on a '90s TSR advertisement.

Keyed the fingers for easier fit to the main arm. Needs some cleaning, priming, and paint still.
Five piece resin garage kit, selling for $80. If anyone is interested, let me know. |

A while back, I got an oil painting commission from Matt Stawicki. Suggested a Draconian (surprise, surprise :P) from the Dragonlance series and he was more than happy to give it a go. Piece was finished this weekend and here is the result:

Been a fan of his work for years and even though the piece I got is considered a small (8.5"x11") and rough piece, still glad I got the opportunity. Might commission him to do a larger painting for one of my 2015 art purchases. He definitely will bring a fresh look on the Draconian creatures of Dragonlance. I just need some sort of scene/description to depict! |

Unsure if I ever shared this Godzilla bust. Created back in 2009/2010.

Sits in my kitchen. You know the fantastic thing about it? Since it's made of silicone, it doesn't collect dust! :D |

Done just in time for the dragon resin statue kit:

Had a good talk with Sensei Tom Kuebler here at IlluXCon and got some tips on how to better cast this piece using specific resin fillers. Also got some fantastic tips on making future projects easier to manage with building modular ball joint armatures. I WILL LEARN HIS SECRETS! :D Planning a visit to his place in Ohio next year. Gonna pick his brain for sure! |

Connected all the cables today and powered up the DIY charger (aka EVSE):

Right now I don't have anything plugged into it. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do so until two weeks as my concrete driveway is being torn out and replaced.
The idea of this unit will be to act as a portable level 2 charging unit I can keep in my trunk. It's outfitted with a NEMA 14-50 plug which tends to be a popular 240V receptacle at many places such as RV parks. I'll probably be making myself a NEMA 14-30 and 10-30 adapter as well so I can also use, if needed in a pinch, 240V outlets found in many home garages. |

Finished building myself a 15kW charging unit for my car.

Just need to connect the J1772 cable and the 60 amp supply. Current unit I'm using maxes out at 7.2kW while the car I have will accept up to 10kW. Extra features should be nice too as the charging scheduler on my vehicle is unfortunately, not known to be the most reliable piece of software. |
