Fishing is a fun sport!! I love it and it is a sport that I can actually take part in. I like may sports and can really remember how much I loved to play some of them. This is a sport that fits me well. I can sit and relax all day (if I want) and just enjoy the sun on my face and spend the time with my husband. He's the real fisherman, though. Anyway: Jon and I were invited by his nephew, Paul, and his wife, Mel, to go with them to their pond in southern Indiana and fish. It's a two hour drive to their pond; so, we stop at a little bait shop/filling station/food mart for breakfast, just before embarking on fish. They have the most awesome biscuit/egg and bacon sandwiches. Of course, we get a couple pickle loaf sandwiches to eat afterward on the way home. They always pick a perfect day as far as the weather is concerned. Jon caught several bass; but, kept just 2 of them. They were both over 17 inches long. I caught 12 bluegill. We didn't keep track of the amount that they caught. But; it was just as nice a mess as we had. These aren't your common lake bluegill that we are used to catching. They were Georgia Giants! The guys stocked the pond last year and the year before with these hybrids. We packed them on ice to travel home; then, cleaned them on the tailgate of the pickup after we got home. We are planning a fish fry!! Do you think that anyone will help us eat them?

Cookout at Jon's
We went to our son Jon's home for a fish fry and cookout. He had saved up some stripers, bass, and walleye, from several fishing trips that he has made lately. I am so thankful that he wanted to share it with us. We all took a covered dish and ate like we hadn't eaten for days. He has a beautiful pond that is just gorgeous; with a beach area on one end. There is a big float out in the middle that serves as a diving board or just a resting place in the sun. I can't believe that I let the girls talks me into donning a bathing suit and going for a swim. It was about 93 degrees and I couldn't resist. We had so much fun with the little ones. Maddy is 8 and Peyton is 5; and they are like fish in the water. They do use the little are floaties in the deep water. Haley is nearly 4 and Colton is almost 2. They loved playing in the sand and wading. Jon made a caramel pie that was so rich that you needed a quart of milk to drink with it. Jon Sr. and I split one little sliver. It was a fun day and we really enjoyed seeing all the family that we hadn't seen for a while. I hated for the day to end.

Critters & Hummingbirds
At this time of year; we are blessed with quite a menagerie to watch from our kitchen and living room windows. I don't want to think about the time that they will be leaving for warmer weather. I can't keep the feeders filled for the birds. There are about 5 or 6 hummingbirds that stay here. Having 2 huge "Rose of Sharon" bushes in the yard and 4 hanging impatiens baskets, help us to keep them around. Jon and I sit in the yard every evening after our walk, and enjoy those hungry little things, fighting over the 2 feeders. Why is it that the males are so possessive? We also have a finch feeder in another tree that is heavily used. We love this feeder the most, I think, because it takes care of all the other birds that don't drink hummingbird nectar and eat thistle seeds. Of course, the raccoons and squirrels have access to it too.

Jason Keith Bronnenberg
September 6, 2008
Today was a sad, but beautiful day. We buried our great nephew, Jason Bronnenberg, at Mechanicsburg, IN, in a plot next to his grandparents, Pete and Margaret Bronnenberg. He was diagnosed with leukemia November 2007. He was 34 years old and had a beautiful wife and two children. We are so thankful to have been able to share in his life; to watch him grow up and into a fine young man. He was a caring, thoughtful, loving friend to all who knew him; and he will be sadly missed.
