Sleep when they sleep

Image
I've heard this advice for as long as I can remember. My response is ......

Yeah Right.

I'd like to know what Mom has time to take a nap when their baby is napping. I've never been able to for a number of reasons.

I'll just list Two.

First, any time I've actually attempted sleep, the moons realign and the moment my head hits the pillow a Baby belts out a cry.

Second, I have so many thoughts racing in my mind from:

what's for dinner? I have to prepare for Sunday's lesson. I really should clean the backyard. Crap, I forgot to start the laundry. I really should get my foot checked out, it really hurts. Who can babysit on Wednesday? When are we getting paid again? I want a snack. I really should stop snacking. Those birds make too much noise. I should call my Dad. I need to clean the fan. I'm definitely getting a snack.

After 10 Minutes of random thoughts and questions :

Well I'm not sleeping, I guess I'll get up.

There's no serenity in my head!

Then after a long day, including a failed nap attempt, I pass out on the couch around 9:00 and sleep like a baby with no care, question or thought in my head until my husband wakes me around 11:30 and says "Time for bed".

So I guess I do get my nap in after all. It just happens from 9-11:30 at night.

Who does she look like?

Image

When you have a baby, or two, one of the most common questions is "Who does she/he look like?". Sometimes the question is skipped all together and the onlooker offers her/his unsolicited opinion on WHO they look like.

I've never liked this question because there's no right answer. The answer always changes depending on who you ask and how old the baby is. The family on Paul's side always say the kids look like their side. My family would argrue they look like our side. It's a battle that will never be won.

With this being said, I have always reluctantly answered: the girls look like the Bugenhagen/Nichols family and Wyatt looks like a Bendoski/Jackson.
Always, until last week when I pulled out my baby album and found a picture when I was about 15 months. I couldn't believe my eyes....

I look like Lillian. Lillian looks like me.

It was a proud moment every mom secretly wants to have. Bragging rights that their offspring looks like them.
She will change as she grows, as they all have, but for now I can say she looks like me.
It truly is amazing how our children really are a PERFECT blend of husband and wife once all is said and done.
