Celia Lerman

Intellectual Property Lawyer in California & Argentina

Who Am I?

I am a lawyer that helps technology companies protect their intellectual property, in the United States and Argentina. I am also on the faculty of the Torcuato Di Tella Law School.

Connecting Two Regions

The focus of the my career since I was 21 has been connecting Latin America and the United States, two cultures that I understand on a deep level. On the Latin American side, I grew up in Buenos Aires, was the valedictorian of the Di Tella Law School, I’ve been an associate at a law firm in Buenos Aires and have resolved complex international cases. On the American side, I received my Masters in Law from Stanford and lived in Silicon Valley, I was a research fellow at Columbia and lived in New York, I’ve been working with American companies for a decade — and, perhaps most importantly, my husband and two children are American.

My Strengths

Image

IP Strategy

Protecting your intellectual property starts long before filing any forms; a good strategy is the key, and a bad strategy can lead directly to failure.

IP Paperwork

Doing all the necessary paperwork requires an obsession with detail, dotting every ‘i’ and crossing every ‘t’.

Being Solution-Oriented

Thinking like a businessperson is critical. Solutions are not about minimizing all potential risk; but instead about solving problems in a practical way to help clients achieve their business goals.

Following Through

Being organized and responsive isn’t enough; you need to also follow through with the agencies, with the clients, with the other parties. My philosophy is to following-through until the matter is solved, and to be proactive to prevent new issues.

Responding Very Quickly

Responsiveness and constant communication that is not easy to find in Latin America.

Operating Bilingually

Speaking both English and Spanish at a native level, I’m profoundly comfortable working in an international context.

Research
