What is CheckEye?
AI-driven platform for mass screening of chronic diseases to enable preventive healthcare for everyone around the world
Problem
According to the World Health Organization, chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes are the leading causes of death globally, responsible for over 70% of all deaths. This equates to 41 million people each year, with 15 million of these deaths occurring prematurely, between the ages of 30 and 69.
âChronic diseases are a global challenge, but through prevention, early detection, and timely treatment, millions of lives can be savedâ
– WHO
The World Health Organisation defines diabetic retinopathy as the leading cause of blindness in the working age population in most countries. However, early diagnosis and timely treatment of diabetic retinopathy can prevent sight impairment and blindness. Interventions that are both cost-saving and feasible include screening and treatment for retinopathy.
approximately 2% of people become blind,
and about 10% develop severe visual impairment.â
– World Health Organisation
Solution
CheckEye has developed a cloud-based solution to detect a wide range of chronic diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, using photographic images of the eye fundus through advanced ML/AI algorithms. These photographs can be taken anywhere, from optical retailers to pharmacies, by non-medical staff and then uploaded to the system for diagnosis. CheckEye makes early detection and prevention of chronic diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, accessible to everyone
