Cheng Zhang is a Research Manager in the Llama team at GenAI, managing the EMEA team responsible for developing the reasoning capability of the next-generation Llama model. She has extensive experience in leadership and management, having previously worked as a Technical Lead and Research Manager at Microsoft Research Cambridge.

Throughout her career, Cheng has spearheaded numerous machine learning projects that have delivered both cutting-edge research and real-world impact, evolving her research with the field. Her work spans multiple domains, including deep generative modeling, causal deep learning, large language models, and multi-modal foundation models. Cheng has collaborated closely with internal and external product and business teams to align research with their needs. With over a decade of experience in machine learning research, she is also an active member of the machine learning community, organizing and participating in various conferences and workshops. Notably, she was the Program Chair for NeurIPS 2024 and will serve as the General Chair for NeurIPS 2025 and is currently NeurIPS Board member.
