Hmmmm

NaNoWriMo.org is unavailable due to high load, must be October 1st.

Work, yeah well its been interesting, 14 layoffs last week, morale is lower than Palin's IQ, it's dead today, boss took off for two weeks because she is burned out.

Finally kicked Too Human and moved on to Civilization Revolutions. Only 23 pts shy of breaking 15K on my Gamerscore.

Got a petition from andim's mom last week kind of annoyed me. It promoted denying services to all non US Citizens. The intent was to deny all illegals but due to the poor language they used I was lumped in with the illegals because I'm only a Legal Resident Alien. I get to pay taxes, not vote and hell I'm not even sure I could claim unemployment. I need to make a decision soon do I renew my green card as a legal resident or do I apply for citizenship. At this point I think its clear I'm not going to be moving back to the UK. Guess I need to see how the election turns out because if McCain/Palin make it in I might have to revise this logic. Not that things look that much better back there.

Dazzled andi on the weekend with some fresh figs, halved, drizzled with olive oil, salt, pepper, small lump of goat cheese stuffed into each half. Also introduced to Ice Wine.

TrueBlood, anyone? Come on andi and I cannot be the only ones watching it. Wurmfood needs to sue the production company for image infringement for Eric.

We almost had rain on Monday just a brief shower. Need a good solid day or too of it just pounding down.

The dogs are good. Being woken up by a dog tongue in the ear or up the nose while effective is not my favorite way to start the day.

Tempted to grab a G1 when they come out.

Working my way through Reborn.

Watched Speed Racer last week, next time I will just bathe my eyes with acid. Not a bad film at all, however it felt like being beaten in the eyeballs with a pair of rolled up socks for two hours by the time it was over.

17 Days till I turn 34

What a difference a decade makes.

Ten years ago I was packing up my personal belongings from the house I was sharing with three other guys in Maidenhead, Berkshire in the UK. I had handed my notice into Northern Telecom. I had been married for six months and not seen my then wife since June. I was not allowed to enter the US while my green card was being processed. The Zone had been my social source of growth an shrunk the globe very quickly for me. For four years I had been traveling and socializing with many brilliant, funny and socially awkward people.

I had been building up my Laser Disc collection, which I did not bring with me but left with my folks. I had begun to transition to DVD way ahead of most folks in the UK knowing my pending immigration was coming up. My books, computer, movies, music and all but two suit cases of clothes were boxed up and being shipped by sea to Long Beach.

I'd cut my hair from being down between my shoulders to a grade 1 all over. I left behind my family, my culture, my history and my friends. Many of whom I miss today, yes Pete I'm looking at you.

Friday of this week is 10 years to the day since I landed in Los Angeles as a legal resident alien. Here are the highlights of the last 10 years.

- Learning to drive on the wrong side of the road and getting my license. I never got my license in the UK as I could walk and take public transport everywhere.

- Walking into the Social Security office of downtown Long Beach to find armed guards at the bathroom doors, listening to women discuss which order is the best high when consuming crack, weed and booze, watching the guy opposite me urinate in his pants. Good times.

- Roscoe's Chicken n Waffles, Brazilian BBQ's.

- Fireworks from Long Beach from the Queen Mary

- Telling Raven I loved her.

- Starting to get a clue that the ocean front view my life had promised to be was not quite consistent with the reality.

- Waiting three months to get my social security card so I could get a job.

- working for ETM who went bust.

- working for HiHo Technologies who went bust.

- Being employee 11 at Vital Stream and leaving there 5 years later.

- Buying my first car, a 1975 Diesel Mercedes, I named it The Tank.

- fun trips to Alberquerque, Denver, Jasper Alabama, Las Vegas.

- joining Shana's LA dining group.

- Living in two different apartments and going through the hell of buying a house.

- Meeting the SF Crew thanks to Cheryl.

- Meeting Marco and other LJ'rs, going to the LA Bash. Watching folks do body shots off each other and being annoyed the fun sponge was with me.

- Discovering I was more of a man than I thought I was and embracing it.

- But not until writing pornographic stories for three years before hand.

- Falling in love with a Beagle named Bagel.

- Developing a taste for Sushi.

- Starting a wine habit.

- Driving to work and thinking about crashing my car into the freeway over pass where the 55 crosses the 405.

- Telling my then wife and being stunned as she concluded on the spot I would leave her.

- Two weeks later telling her I wanted a divorce.

- Four weeks later moving out due to a friends kind offer to let me rent a spare room.

- Almost giving up on it all and moving back to the UK.

- Selling a house and making sure my ex was well taken care of.

- Filing my own divorce completely by myself.

- Finding out in three brief psychiatrist sessions I did not need help once I had decided to take action and being made to promise to not go into the field of psychology because I would use my powers for ebil.

- Never seeing Bagel again.

- Seeing yet more of Toronto than I ever thought I would.

- Almost turning around and making the exact same mistake again. Vowing to stop changing who I was to make other people happy.

- Formal creation of the Crown Princes of Assholia, because I broke off an engagement as a result of the above item.

- More fun in Vegas.

- Even more fun in San Francisco.

- More sex with more women in six weeks than I had with my ex wife in three months.

- More fun learning to live and play bar trivia with Al.

- Turning my work life around from almost being fired to getting a manager title, pay raise and becoming responsible for a four employee team.

- MMO gaming, Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, Star Wars Galaxies, Anarchy Online, City of Heroes, World of Warcraft.

- Moving to Console gaming.

- Failing to meet my own NaNoWriMo goals every year.

- Meeting a woman and her kids who fascinated the hell out of me and is the catalyst who keeps me wanting to be a better man. Seem's like a good place to stop. I'm getting all rambly.

Crushed.

While goofing in the pool with Bridget and andi yesterday Bridget went to jump on andi. Her foot came down in my crotch squashed both nuts under her heel against the bottom of my scrotum as she launched herself at andi. Thirty minutes later my kidneys were still hurting, everything is fine now.

Watched Nim's Island with Fidgy on Saturday night, cool for a kids flick.

Went to Baby's R Us, for a conditioning exercise. Holy shit there is a lot of things out there for the wee folk.

Caught Stealing Beauty on Saturday morning while Bridget was asleep. Introduced andi to MST3K:The Movie, there was almost milk out the nose.

Played a little of Star Wars Force Unleashed demo. Nice, pretty, Star Wars but not sure it's going to cut it for me needs more RPG. Wasted time here and there playing Fable II Pub Games.

Cleaned out the hall closet and rearranged the office to future baby space.

Between the movies, arranging the office I'm starting to get the creative juices flowing again. Might have to start writing again soon.

I need to reconnect more with music and inspirational stuff.

Held the kids two week old sister yesterday, wee wee baby. Fit along my forearm very nicely. Can see some confusion for the kids that their sister will not be calling me her big daddy.

Writer's Block: Six-Word Story

Hemingway was once challenged to write a story in only six words. His response? “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” He is believed to have called it his greatest literary work ever. Can you write a story in six words?

That was when things went wrong.

Well Bugger

Left work at 3pm yesterday to attend parent teacher conferences. Was calling for a tow truck 30 minutes later to drag the cruiser to the transmission place. Sigh. I don't know why this had to happen again now but there you go. I always have this crushing sense of guilt when ever I have car issues and I cannot for the life of Me figure out why. I take good care of My cars, they are maintained regularly and yet I feel this huge sense of embarrassment like its My fault the transmission started to piss fluid down the freeway. At least I limped off onto the off ramp.

$40 for the tow and now I'm stranded and have to wait for the call today and what is wrong.

Bridget did awesome at her conference though so that made Me feel better.
