Shutter Speed

Image

Image Shutter speed is the light that comes into the picture. By having the shutter opened, we control the shutter speed and control houw much light comes in. Our shutter speed was 15 seconds and the ISO 200. On the second picture we each had an item that lights up bright like an cellphone or ipod. During those seconds we had to move quick to get it correct. My favorite is the first one because it looks awesome and we actally didn't move during those 15 seconds.

Aperture

Image

Image

Aperture is how much light you can get into the picture. It's the local length divided diameter of light. You can see easily the amount of light it captures. The second photograph has a small amount of aperature. The reason is because the hole is not big enough to capture the light. For the first light there's a much bigger hole and the light comes in.

Flash

Image Some Pros about flash are that it adds light, freezes time, and eliminates blur. Cons are its disturbs subject, ughly lighting situationa and red eyes. Flash would be good to use when there is light, and you would not use flash when its too bright. The photo that I choose does not use flash. Colors are more clear and it does not look fake.

Metering

Image

Image

Light meters measure the amount of light there is in the picture. In the picture where you can only see the computer, I half pressed the button and took it. In the photo I'm focusing on the computer to bring in light so my partner can show up. Spot metering can help me in the future by focusing on anything that I want to show in pictures.

Surrealism

Image

In this dream I see that your in the picture twice, one your sitting on a banana and on the other your on the apple also sitting. Not only your sitting your reading a book. Its just not a simple book, I feel like you have a special connection with this book. Do you read it everyday? If you do that means you have this past that you don't want to let go of, which is your childhood. I'm not saying it's not good to read but you need to move foward from that book. I recommend for you to take a long vacation and explore other books. That book you have, you need to give it to someone that means a lot to you or just simply donate it.

Surreal Practice Tutorial

Image On the eye tutorial we did many things look real. We changed the eye color by adding two other colors into it. Also we added other layers and popped out the colors more. We added a drop shadow to the butterfly to make it look like its real.

ART SHOW "Laughs are Infinite"

Image My favorite artwork that I have accomplished is my social issue. There are two girls in a young age. They're at a park. The picture shows that they are glad to be together, on such a beautiful day. They are two sisters laughing, enjoying there free-time, and also shows how much her big sister cares for her by holding the little girl side. The flowers in the background mean that the day was bright, fresh, and beautiful.

To me it means that laughs never end. You can be sad, angry or depressed but someone or something can enlighten your day. When I get sad or angry, I can just go outside and see other many things that enlighten my day. My brother is the one I go to when I need help. We might have our ups and downs but he will always be there for me, as well as I'll be too.

Si Se Puede & Academic Letter Programs

Image

Image
My two programs are simple and readable. My favorite one is my Si Se Puede program. I felt like I put more effort on this one then the other one. I wanted to do a wrinkle background but didn't work out so I just kept it how it is. I took the picture out in the stadium which I had a little trouble cutting it out and take out the lines but it came out good at the end.
My academic letter is my least favorite. The edges on my picture are horrible, the background is plain and ugly and could have been more creative. The only thing I like was the fonts on there.

Personal Quilt

INSIDE

PAST

FUTURE

Image

Trying to find ideas was difficult for me. This project made me focus on my inside, past, and future. My inside quilt was a not hard but not easy. I realized I'm always find myself smiling every moment in life. I enjoy life as it comes and love the way I am. I believe my parents and god are the ones who take me to the correct direction. I added a horse to my saquare because I love them and been in my life. There is a specific horse that I love and is still in the family. It is really significant to me because my grandpa gave it to me before he past away. This project took so much time but it was worth it. Many people found themselves by asking people and family.

My past square is my favorite square. I like how I combined shoes as my friends, and shaped it like a heart. My friends in the past have helped me move foward with no regret. They have always been there for me in the bad and good. My mom is very important in my past. She was there in every little moment when my dad was not. They must of had there ups and downs but now I have both of my parents together. Also my past means to me that whatever happens to continue and never stop. I've been here since 1991 and continue to when god decides to take me.

My future just shows that I want to attend Arizona State University in the future. After graduating high school. Words that I have on there are courage, strength, dream, and believe. I need courage from teachers, family, and friends. Without there help I would be anything. Strength to not give up when I'm stuck in a situation and get help. Every bueatiful thing I dream can become real. The last one is believe. Believing is all up to you, and I do believe at every time I can. I believe in many things like going to school and studying criminal justice to be someone in life, god always being there with me, and no one is powerful to take anything away from you.

Artist Statement

On my portfolio, you will see many interesting pictures. Each picture has a specific compositional trick. Each compositional trick helps you understand the image more, and takes you straight to the emphasis. I feel that my portfolio needs more effort in the beginning because I felt like I did not put much effort into it when I started. Moving up to the rest of the last pictures posted I saw that I had put more strength into them. The reason I think I started to do better is because I combined everything I learned and made a better picture. The best one is still to come.

During this semester I learned how to take a good photo. Also that’s there is many rules on taking a perfect picture. Some of the compositional tricks that I learned are rule of thirds, framing, simplicity, macro, leading lines, etc. The most successful project that I thought I did is my social issue. I felt like I had the idea and placed it in the correct picture format. I did have a little trouble at first but I figured out in the end. What I struggled more was on the rule of thirds pictures. I need a little more of practice on it.

In my future I can improve by taking better photographs. This will help me when I choose to take a family picture and not looking horrible. I’ve seen my improvement in the photographs that I took recently. Like on using the rule of thirds and focusing on my emphasis. My artwork, in my opinion has improved throughout the days. I have learned that everyone’s beauty is not the outside is what’s inside you.

Social Issue: Laughs are Infinite

Image In my photograph, there are two girls in a young age. They are on the end of the slide at a park. The picture shows that they are glad to be together, on such a beautiful day. They are two sisters laughing, enjoying there free-time, and also shows how much her big sister cares for her by holding the little girl side. The flowers in the background means that the day was bright, fresh, and pretty.

My photograph means that laughs never end. You can be sad, angry or depressed but someone or something can enlighten your day. This relates to me because when I get sad or angry, I can just go outside and see other many things that enlighten my day. A person is a great example, my brother is the one I go to when I need help. We might have out ups and downs but he will always be there for me, as well as I'll be too.

Scary Effects

Image Image Image

My favorite was the alien because I felt like I put more effort into in. Also I learned more photoshop tricks. Some new tools we used were the clone stamp, and pen. The pen tool was difficult to use and get it how I wanted it.

Photographic Effects

The trick I liked more was Paint: black & white because you can choose and change anything to the color you want. I used this trick more. As you can see on my pictures, I changed things to different colors. I would like to explore more with Fix because I didn't use for the fact of not knowing all the steps. I didn't explore anything new because I was scared it was going to ruin my picture or change anything else.

Image Prop

Image Surprise

Image Artistic

Image Face

I feel like the picture I put more effort into it was my artistic photograph because I had the light how I wanted it and a good angle for the picture. I tried to find a place with light and not an ugly background for the artistic picture. The mood I thought I took is motivation. My surprise photo is unique but not different. Many people can capture something like mine. My prop picture didn't come out as good. I used a basketball as a prop. It would of been better if I were to capture the whole scene with the hoop.

Creative Contact Sheet

Image
I have learned eight compositional tricks. The one I have enjoyed the most is Macro. It helps you seen more into the emphasis, and lets you capture things you never seen. My least favorite was Rule of Thirds because I seemed to struggle on where to face the camera and finding a good place. My favorite picture on my contact sheet is my Simplicity photo. I felt like I put more effort into it and found it simple to turn into black and white.

Compositional Trick #8 Fill in Flash

Image

Image

Compositional Trick #7 Drawing with Light

Image
Lighting adds beauty and causes a dramatic effect. It also shows emotion.

Compositional Trick #6 Framing

Image
Framing is anything that surrounds the emphasis in the photograph so the eye looks directly at the subject.

Compositional Trick #5 Extreme Angles

Image

Image
Angles are good to know because it gives us a better view of our emphasis from above or below them. I would have to say they are pretty good job because they show the emphasis from both below and above them. It gives us a good look on the color and texture.

Compositional Trick #4 Simplicity

Image

Image Simplicity is nothing boring because you see things more perfect. So with a perfect picture you can turn into black and white without even changing levels. I think my pictures are effective.

Compositional Trick #3 Macro

Image

Image
Macro lets you get closer to smaller subjects. It magnifies the subject and the background tends to get blurry fast.

Friday, August 28, 2009

Compostional Trick #2 Leading Lines

Image
Leading Lines are when they lead you to an empahsis or object. It takes you visually into the photograph.

Compositional Trick #1 Rule of Thirds

Image The Rule of Thirds is when you focus on an objects position but outside of the center of your photograph.
