If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place
just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not)
without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

[Current Mood |sadsad]

Mom died this morning. She passed peacefully while the Catholic Mass from her home parish was playing on the TV in her room.

Off to Wisconsin, and very little internet access.

Keep a good thought, please.

Quick update [Jul. 31st, 2016|10:25 am]
clindau
My friend died three days after I visited him and his wife. We had a good time; laughter, good conversation and no tears. His funeral was a chance to reconnect with mutual friends that I haven't seen in far too long.

Mom had a stoke last Saturday night/Sunday morning and is in comfort care. I was there from last Sunday evening until yesterday. It's day by day for us as we wait for the end. It is a strange feeling to be planning and not planning, if you know what I mean. Meanwhile, my niece (Mom's granddaughter) is being feted at a bridal shower today. Life goes on, sometimes with heavy heart in the midst of joy.

More later.

O brave new world [Sep. 5th, 2015|10:23 am]

The couple who lived upstairs and had two cats moved out a few weeks ago. We called them our "time-share" cats because they would spend time with us when the owners weren't around, then go back upstairs for food and litter-box stuff. All the benefits of cat ownership without the pesky maintenance.

The new upstairs neighbor is cat-sitting an indoor-outdoor cat who was outside all last night. He came in this morning when I went out to see what the weather was like, and he couldn't get back into the apartment because the door was locked. I knocked, he meowed, but no one came to the door. I knew she was up, but probably couldn't hear us over the noise of her A/C. So I remembered that this is the 21st century and texted her; cat is home now.

I am so not of this young generation.

Does anyone know if basil is sensitive to the jugulone from a black walnut tree? I know first-hand that tomatoes Do Not Like jugulone, but I can't find info either way about basil. I trying to decide if I should plant my seedlings in a big pot, or in the ground. Thanks.

The "Christmas Flame" cutting you gave me has not only taken root, but it is sporting a wee flower bud. Whee!

Hot flashes during a heat wave are not fun. At all. Where were they last winter when they were useful?

Let's ride bikes! part the third [Oct. 10th, 2011|09:54 am]
clindau
Friday I ended up riding out to the Depot again. On the way back I "raced" a freight train. A rail line parallels the trail for part of the way and late morning is one of the times that a train comes through. I was able to keep pace with the train as it trundled east through the suburbs into Minneapolis and even gain a little time on it. My reward, though (that I knew was coming), was a rest at the point where the track crosses the bike trail. I enjoy the graffiti on the cars--some of it is pretty spectacular.

Over the weekend I rode the bike to the G and back. Six miles round trip each day. Not much, but it's something.
