I meant to post this earlier, right after consent_issues_exchange wrapped up, but it took me a while.

I had a good CIEX! I got this great ASOIAF SanSan dubcon fic with Joffrey forcing Sandor to have sex with Sansa anally.

I wrote this Orville "Charly noncons Kaylon Primary" fic (with bonus Wenda/K-1 noncon in the past). The structure was much more difficult than the typical smutty oneshot I tend to write for these things, so it took me a while to get it right, but I'm quite happy with how it turned out in the end.

The Star Trek dubcon fics that were written for this were all very interesting and enjoyable too! I also liked this angsty Jafar/Jasmine canon divergence AU where Jasmine marries Jafar out of necessity, because Prince Ali drowns and is never heard from again.


The other thing I wanted to say in this post is that, with my latest CIEX fic, I now have reached 100 works posted to AO3!! Big milestone for me. I'm looking forward to what things I'll write for my next 100. :) (Judging by the rate I am writing, it will take me many years!)

Oh boy, has it really been three months since my last post? So sorry! I really would like to use this blog more to talk about my projects or just whatever, but I've been so busy that taking the time to write something for this blog just kinda goes to the bottom of the pile.

Anyway, for October, let me FINALLY round up my relationshipping and incestbingo works. I DID get bingo this year, but like with the last time I got bingo, there was just ONE pesky work that ended up dragging on and on. So I was hoping to have posted this post back in September, but it just wasn't ready until now...

A bit random, but I wanted to talk a bit about a WIP that I've had on the backburner but which I got a bit of inspiration on recently due to a thread on fail_fandomanon. Basically, a while back (in February), there was a thread on what makes for a bad [insert genre] fic, including a thread asking what people think makes for a bad omegaverse fic.

Trying to think about this question was interesting and made me think a little bit about what makes omegaverse appeal to me. I think the original question is a bit difficult to answer because omegaverse is a very flexible trope - like, fifty tropes in a trenchcoat that you can freely pick and choose as you like, and I think it has also changed quite a bit over time, changing from something that had a bundle of relatively niche kinks in it into something a bit more mainstream. I guess the central/non-negotiable aspects of the AU is that characters have a secondary sex/designation as alpha and omega (and possibly beta as well), and these come with specialized/dimorphic biology/biological urges of some kind. Aside from that, there's quite a lot of flexibility in the mechanics, worldbuilding, and type of stories you can tell.

As a result, omegaverse can be something different for a lot of people. Is it a way to make the mechanics of same-sex porn and romance as easy to write as the mechanics of het porn/romance (lubrication, G!P, mpreg and fpreg, etc.)? Is the appeal the animalistic anatomy and instincts (knotting, marking/scenting, nesting, etc.)? Is the worldbuilding the interesting part (e.g. rational fic trying to understand how heats would affect the way society is organized)? Ways to explore gender and gender oppression with a bit of distance that sci-fi/speculative fiction can get you? The list of functions goes on and on.

For me, personally, though, I think the appeal of omegaverse lies in two tropes that are commonly utilized in omegaverse: (1) D/s dynamics and (2) dubcon scenarios facilitated by biological heats. These are kinks, but I would say relative to the wider space of kinks, they are fairly common or basic ones, and ones that you'll find in a lot of non-omegaverse smut as well. So my omegaverse tastes lean fairly basic! Also, for me, omegaverse is primarily a porn/romance trope, and therefore has a lot of unrealism/porn logic/wish fulfillment aspects to it. So to answer the question at the start of my post, I think what personally makes for a bad omegaverse fic is one that punctures that fantasy or wish fulfillment aspect.

Of course, the line where something crosses from iddy fantasy into unsexy territory differs for everyone, but for me, I think there's a limit to how dystopian the world can be before I start to go, "oh, this is depressing not fun," even though - at the same time - I also think a good omegaverse fic has at least *some* darkness or fucked-up-ness to it. So that line has to be carefully balanced (and is obviously different from person to person).

I think I only have one WIP that involves omegaverse, and thinking about what I like/don't like about omegaverse is kind of illustrated by the setup of this fic, so I'll discuss it:

I've been working on preparing this event for a REALLY long time. Basically, I had this experience last year of thinking I had left a prompt on the soulcaliburkink meme, but then when I went to check, I had not, in fact, left a prompt. I do kind of want to leave a bunch of prompts there, but it's awkward if it's just me, so I've decided to have an event to encourage a lot of people to stretch themselves a bit and leave a variety of prompts. I finally finished making all the banners and writing up all the materials and stuff, so I decided to launch it slightly ahead of schedule (was hoping to release this by early January at the latest, but it's ready now):

I have some bingo cards up that serve as prompts for prompts, essentially. It should be pretty easy to get a bingo with a few prompts, but you can also stretch yourself to get a blackout or try the hard card. And there are little award banners for hitting a bingo!

So yeah, please spread the word and start brainstorming prompts, so that hopefully it won't be just me leaving prompts in February /o\ That's about it for the December update. I'm currently on a bit of a writing break, but I have a lot of fic on my to-read list, which I'm hoping to be able to take a look at over the holidays. But who knows if that will actually happen!

So... I did not end up doing a bingo for incestbingo. I was hoping to do mainly art but ended up being backlogged on art so went for fic instead, which took longer, and trying to do fic treats was harder to make work for some of the squares I was eyeing. I finished a bus pass version of my consent_issues_exchange fic. I'm really pleased with how it came out, but I'd just like to do one more pass to bulk up the sex scenes a bit because they came out a little rushed in the version I posted.

I'm also working hard trying to finish enough of a pinch hit in order to claim it, but it's taking me longer than expected. I was hoping to write it very short/concisely, but somehow the writing style keeps on going long back to my typical style. I'm trying out writing on my phone in case that helps - so far it's helping with getting the words out, but they are still not coming out concisely. Also, I hit a bit of a snag with the scene progression, trying to figure out the exact timeline of events I want. I'm still not sure how it will shake out in the end, or if it will shake out.

But that struggle and uncertainty aside, I'm making progress, and I hope I'll be able to make a big dent in this fic today and tomorrow while traveling for the holidays.

I'm hoping for next year I'll be able to work on some of my personal projects instead of writing so much for exchanges, but when the requests are so good...

I finally finished my incest bingo. One of these, a treat for myself, ended up giving me a lot of problems, and I couldn't abandon it (because I really needed that Time Travel square!) and I also didn't have a hard deadline for it, so it took me a while to get it out.

For these, I wanted to go back to my roots a bit and try to imagine them like kink meme fills, so I was shooting for a length of 500-1000 words for them. Unfortunately, only 1 fic fell in that range, and only 2 were nearby. The rest were closer to 2k words, which is fine. At least I managed to make them a bit more brief than my typical smut fic (~2-3k words).

I'm kind of proud because there's quite a lot of variation in terms of family relationships (mostly parent/child because that's where my id lies, but some sibling and selfcest too) and consent level (consensual, dubcon, and non-con). So I hope there's something of interest here. (Please heed the warnings!)
