RIP Gwilym Newman
Gwilym was a phenomenal person and an amazing friend. He was like a brother to me, and I loved him as such. He will always be loved and forever missed by all who knew him. May you rest in peace, Gwilym. I can only hope that now you and your father can be together once again.
DoD Identifies Army Casualty
1ST Lt. Gwilym J. Newman, 24, of Waldorf, Md., died April 12 in Tarmiyah, Iraq, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire while on dismounted patrol. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

MND-B security patrol ends with small arms fire
Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO
BAGHDAD — An MND-B Soldier died when a patrol was attacked with small arms fire north of the Iraqi capital. The unit was conducting a security patrol when the attack occurred.
No other Soldiers were wounded during the attack.
Increased combined security has aided in reducing the overall number of IEDs and murders in the area north of the Iraqi capital.
Iraqi security forces and Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers continued conducting operations in support of Operation Fardh Al-Qanoon,setting the conditions for a stable and self-reliant Iraq.
The deceased Soldier’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and release by the Department of Defense.
