built-in soundcard issues

Hello all,

I have a built-in sound card, and I recently had to wipe my hard-drive and install a new OS (went from Linux to Windows 2000 Pro SP3). Linux had no problem identifying the built-in sound card on its own and getting the driver, as it worked from day one on that OS, but now that I'm on Windows 2000 Pro SP3 (which I have to be for now, for numerous reasons), the driver doesn't work; under the "Sounds and Multimedia Properties" in the control panel, the Audio tab, it has "No Playback Devices" under "Sound Playback Preferred Device," which sounds to me like I don't even have a driver installed. This computer was given to me, and I have no idea what the sound card is. What I do know is that it's:

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+
AT/AT compatible

This I got from the properties of My Computer. Also when it first boots up, it has an Apex logo (which goes away when it loads Windows).

Anyone know what kind of sound card I've got here, and where I can get a driver for it? Or am I stuck picking up a new sound card?

I'm using the latest Mozilla Firefox browser (can't get any sound on youtube, either), and for right now I just have the basic windows media player, but I plan on getting Quintessential Music Player, and a new video player here soonly.

Thanks in advance!
Mary
