Firefox keeps on freezing on me. Even when it doesn't freeze, it is sluggish and if I ever minimize it to use another program, when I try to get it on top again, the top of the window is from the original site, and half the time the address bar doesn't work. Sometimes I can still type in a new address or use Google, other times I can switch between tabs and follow links on open tabs, but can't create new tabs or use menus or whatever.

Then, when I try try download/save something or open a new window/tab/dialog box, Firefox freezes on me. The download/save thing always causes a problem, sometimes the dialog/tab/window thing will work and then it will freeze. It also doesn't matter if Firefox was relatively behaving before or not...

I have tried to restart the computer and no-go.

So yeah. Running Firefox in safe mode seemed to work, but the moment I went out of safe mode and tried to save a PDF file, it froze.

I've run a bunch of scans (ESET, Spybot, Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware, Hitman Pro, Stinger, Spybot), but none of them came up with anything besides some cookies. Any ideas of what I can do?

Question/Problem: I was reading the news online, when my computer screen got fuzzy, like you needed to use the tracking on the VCR kind of fuzzy, gave off some static, froze up completely, so I gave it a hard-restart, and...nothing. Oh, the fan spins, the power light and hard drive lights come on, but it's not running at all. The monitor is not lighting up at all.

Operating System, Version and Service Pack: Windows XP...not sure what service pack, since it's not turning on and working in any way shape or form. The computer itself is a Sony Vaio laptop VGN-FJ 290.

When did the problem start? Has it been going on constantly since then? It just happened today.

Any steps you've taken to troubleshoot? I popped the RAM out and then reseated it. Made no difference. I heard somewhere that you can pull the RAM out, and turn the computer on to hear a lot of beeps if the motherboard is working, so I tried that too. No beeps were heard. Not sure whether that test is accurate or not.

I bought a new notebook (Acer Aspire 7736ZG) at the beginning of this year and everything was fine so far, but now I am facing serious problems for a few days already.
It all started with winamp making troubles in playing some new mp3s (basically, it just stopped playing, but everything else worked fine, so I thought the files were corrupted), but when I rebooted the notebook everything was fine again. Then, the next day (yesterday, to be precise), Windows 7 started to freeze basically directly after booting. This is especially visible in the task bar, which would not do anything anymore and did not let me click and open anything. After forcing a reset, I was offered a system test and repair (I hope you know what I mean; my system is all in German and I don't know the English terms of art), but that did not really help. The system then was at a point where it seemed stable until one would open any kind of internet browser (IE or Firefox) and the trouble would start in the same way as before (freezing, etc.). In addition, everything slowed down extremely. Later, I was able to uninstall a program I had installed a day or two before (Veoh Web-Player) and I thought I had found the troublemaker, since everything (with the exception of IE) worked fine again, but I am back to where I was before since this morning. Moreover, the desktop background (only the background, not the icons) is being displayed strangely at the half (I cannot really explain it, but I can upload a screenshot later today) and the whole system is extremely slow. Actually, the speed etc. seems fine when I open a program (except anything web browser) or folder directly after Windows is finished booting, but after I close this one, I cannot open anything else and the task bar and startup menue freeze as before.
I cannot really think of a mechanical problem here, since everything was fine a day before and my laptop is practically standing around on my desk all day without being moved or touched or anything (since I am at university for most of the day). I tried to let my virus scanner look out for something, but so far, it did not really work out without it freezing.
I am really at a loss here what could have happened and what could be done to solve these problems and I would be very grateful for any help and suggestions~
(I really don't want to give it away for warranty repair, due to very bad experiences with my old notebook last year...)


Oh, before I forget, my system data:
I use an Acer Aspire 7736ZG with a Pentium Dual-Core T4300 (2.1 GHz, 800MHz FBS) and 3GB RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium (64 Bit), NVIDIA GeForce Q10M and a 320GB HDD. The browsers I have installed are IE8 and Firefox 3.6.3.

I've been hit with spyware/viruses/whichever.
I'm in safe mode right now since regular mode just freezes up now. :(
It isn't letting me open Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, & SpybotS&D.
I can still open pretty much open every other program that I have.
Is there a way to get those programs to open?

I also need your help in telling me which programs to check in the Trend Micro HiJack this. Some seem pretty obvious but I don't want to try fixing anything & messing things up further. So please help.

Question/Problem:
I hope I can explain this sufficiently... I bought a season of a tv show on dvd, and attempted to play it on my laptop, using Windows Media Player. On the root menu screen, I am unable to open any episode but the first one. Essentially, the root menu is frozen. The background music continues to loop, but I can't get the select-highlight thing to move. It's stuck on the first episode- the title is highlighted, and I can click and open it. In the menu for that episode, everything works normally. I can click on any of the options, and open each new window. However, when I return to the root menu, it's still stuck. The mouse doesn't move the select-highlight. When I click on another title, it's not the hand cursor, it's the arrow, and nothing happens. If I double click, all it does is change the screen to full-screen, or vice versa.
I took the disk out, put it back in and tried again. It didn't work. I restarted my computer, put the disk back in and tried again, and that didn't work, either. I tried with another disk in the box-set, but it had the same problem. The first episode was highlighted and would play, but that was it. I downloaded a trial version of a different media player (CyberLink Power DVD 5) and the same thing happened. So, I tried another disk from a different series, with WMP. It works fine. Then I tried the first (problem) disk again, but it still wouldn't work.
I would think that it is a faulty dvd set, except that this has happened to me before. The thing is, I can't remember why, or how (or if) it got fixed. If anyone has any ideas, I would be completely grateful.
