Question/Problem: I can connect to the unsecured public school network nearby, but not to the home network. It shows up as "Unidentified network" with network access but no internet access.
Operating System, Version and Service Pack: Windows 7 with SP1
Web Browser and Version: Chrome 10 (or latest version) and Firefox 3.6.18
Your level of experience (we simplify or explain instructions based on how you answer): Seasoned
When did the problem start? Has it been going on constantly since then? Two days ago, ongoing problem.
Any steps you've taken to troubleshoot? Tried flushing the DNS cache, running Windows diagnostics, asking the landlord to reboot the modem.
If you are receiving an error message, please include the entire text of the message. (If you have an error log, please post it under a LJ-Cut): Ipconfig/all ( ipconfig/allCollapse )
Please help! Normally I'd try the google method first, but the next-door school's internet blocks many of the results and I'm a little desperate to get livejournal access back at home.
Question/Problem: When I hook up my wireless router, my PC no longer connects, but the Wii can, without a problem
Operating System and VERSION: PC: Windows XP SP2, and then whatevers on the Wii
Web Browser and VERSION: Firefox 2.0.0.11 for the PC, Opera for the Wii
Your level of experience: Seasoned with certain things, beginner with routers
Duration of problem: It's been happening for awhile. My ISP (Cox) says it's not them, but since I can connect with at least one internet-capable machine, I'm inclined to believe. It worked for awhile, but then stopped, and then would again, and then stopped again. We usually have to keep the router disconnected most of the time.
Any steps you've taken to troubleshoot? I'm not sure of which I can take. I've tried it with the router on, but the Wii off, and still have nothing. It's already password-protected and all that good stuff.
I'm not sure if this info matters: We're not sure if it's the computer (it's slowly dying a painful death). We're purchasing a laptop as soon as tax return comes in (should be by the end of the week), and we're hoping that both of us can get on the computers at the same time. We're purchasing a new tower in a few months (laptop is a priority, since I'm going to be going out of town, and still want to be in better contact than just phone with my husband).
Question/Problem: I can't upload any pictures to websites (Myspace, Tinypic, Imageshack, etc.) without getting an error that says "connection has been reset." When I upload to Myspace specifically it loads to 100% very quickly and never does anything or doesn't load at all and crashes my browser. I almost am sure this problem has nothing to do with the images I am using.
Operating System and VERSION: Windows XP
Web Browser and VERSION: Firefox/2.0.0.6
Your level of experience: Intermediate, I think
Duration of problem: a week and a half?
Any steps you've taken to troubleshoot? Cleared my cache, cookies, etc.
PROBLEM: Trying to figure out what the fuck is up with my internet connection. Again.
We have two computers; mine is a desktop connected directly through a cable to a wireless router, which is (obviously) plugged into the modem. My SO connects via said router to the wireless card in HIS desktop.
The issue was sporadic at first. It would go down every 2 minutes or so. It would give me the error message "a network cable is unplugged", but if I power cycled everything (router and modem) it would work again. For another 2 minutes.
So, I called the cable company who insisted that the error tells them it's a problem with either my router, or a cable connected from it. Okay. I'm inclined to see the wisdom in that. I even plugged MY computer directly into the modem, which seemed to solve the issue, so...yeah. Router.
I went and bought another router ($70 a pop) and used the cables that came in the box, killing what should have been two birds with one stone. And the issue continued to happen. Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. If it's going to keep doing this shit with new-out-of-the-box equipment, that couldn't be the issue. I was going to return it and get my money back. Which I did.
I plugged in the old router a couple hours later and our connection is FINE again. Stable as the day is long, no issues. For about two weeks.
Today, it starts happening again. It drops signal every couple of minutes, but if I plug my computer directly into the modem, it works fine. Cable company again insists there is no issue on their end so it has to be us.
My SO also noticed today that every time this shit happens, the digital cable says "no data available" when it usually tells us what show is on and gives us a small blurb about what it's about. Connected? I don't know.
I need ideas and thoughts, because this is weird and I'm confused.
Operating System and VERSION: XP Home, Version 2002, Service pack 2
Web Browser and VERSION: Firefox and IE, this question really doesn't apply to the problem.
Your level of experience: An unused(2002) Bachelor's Degree in Computer Systems Tech. Technology has changed A LOT since then, so I know more than the average bear, but I'm not God.
Duration of problem: Sporadically about three weeks total.
Any steps you've taken to troubleshoot?: Detailed in the above. Replaced the router and cables, plugged directly into the modem to test connection.
EDIT TO ADD: We went out for about four hours and came back to find that our connection had died totally. My computer was plugged directly into the modem, with no router involvement. So I restarted everything and hooked the router back up.
I've been online without any disconnection for about three hours now.
I have been searching the net for an Open Source Alternative to Norton Ghost. I want to Image the HDDs of several computers, all with the same hardware, on a network. Basically I'll have one computer to make the image of and send the image to a server. Then I will use that server with the image to broad cast that to the other computers on a closed network using a switch. The Computers are Windows based, XP and/or Vista, and the server could be XP or Linux (I'm open to whatever works).
Norton Ghost is just to expensive and I need an to find a Open Source Alternative. In other words something FREE. I don't know if any of you can help, but you never know until you ask. Any links, sources, or places to help me with this would be MOST appreciated. THANKS!
I have a wireless network with my Dell Inspiron 6400 and a Belkin router. Before, I used to be able to access adobe.com and style.com with no problems. Now, I can't even access them on the laptop and get the "Unable to connect" page on both Firefox and IE. Even pictures hotlinked from style.com don't show on my brower. I can access google.com and yahoo.com with no problems though. I was on the phone with Belkin, my router provider, for over an hour on how to fix it but no luck. Funny thing is, if I were to connect the laptop directly to the DSL line, the sites access perfectly.
Is it a firewall problem? I don't think it's a spyware problem but it's always possible.

I've disabled the Windows firewall and unstalled and restalled McAfee with no luck.
Belkin told me to download a Dr. TCP program and still, no luck.

Did you ever find a program, I am in the same boat at the moment, although I have managed to intercept the MCL data stream and trying to code for this.
