As far as I see this community isn't very active but I'm still going to ask you. I have to organise a computer-based video surveillance system. Thing is that I need to use multiple sources (cameras) with 20-30+ meters cables. I know for sure that my software Xeoma does support use of multiple sources but I'm not sure whether usb hubs and such long cables will still output any signals from my far-away cams. Is there a way to find it out (apart from actually trying it?)
Question/Problem: Windows Update won't work: Error 8024A000
Operating System, Version and Service Pack: Windows Vista Home Premium
Web Browser: Google Chrome 14.0.835.202
Your level of experience: Beginner-ish?
When did the problem start? Has it been going on constantly since then? Since I've upgraded to a 320gb harddrive from a 250gb one, which was just last week.
Any steps you've taken to troubleshoot? Basically everything? I gave up last Sunday because I was so frustrated, but I'll try to trace my steps:
I'm stuck with this Intel Rapid Storage Technology icon sitting in my system tray that I don't fully understand, along with a huge headache. So, someone please save me from this agony? (There may have been some crying involved throughout this whole ordeal, yes.)
I'm at work and my girlfriend just emailed me from her iPod, saying her laptop had broken. Apparently she got some popup and then her computer crashed saying "harddrive failure" and she briefly got back into it to pull some stuff onto her memory stick but then it crashed again and now she couldn't get into it at all for a moment and then she got back in and it said all her Documents were just gone from the folder.
I know this is no technical information enough to give a decent diagnosis, but I bet you computer experts know this general KIND of thing ....is there any hope for her computer and files??
I am looking for a RSS feed reader with a particular functionality, and all of my attempts at googling and testing individual programs have come to nothing, so I hope someone here might be able to help me.
Basically, I'd like to have a feed reader (web-based or not, standalone app or in-browser doesn't really matter) that displays (or can be set up to display) a read item as unread again if it's edited later. To give an example: If I watch the RSS feed of an LJ account, view a particular entry in the feed and mark it as read, I'd like the program to mark the entry as unread again if the entry is edited at a later point.
For a long time, I was using FeedDemon, which did exactly what I'm describing, until I noticed that some of the feeds I was watching weren't updating even though I knew items had been edited. After some digging around in their help forums, I found that they had disabled that functionality because most users didn't like it. So, I went looking for another option. So far, the only program I found that did what I'd like it to do is the NewsFox Firefox add-on, and that's what I'm using now. But now I'm seriously considering switching from Firefox to Chrome, so I need a new solution.
I have Windows 7, and I'd like something that goes with Chrome - as I said, it can be a standalone program or an extension, but not FF add-on, which I have now. Something with web synchronisation would be nice, as I could use it on both my netbook and desktop, but that would be an added bonus. I'm a somewhat advanced end user, so a program with many options and functions wouldn't scare me away.
I've already tried a number of programs and services I found on Google and various freeware recommendation sites: Google Reader, FeedDemon, FeedReader and some others, I think. So, I'm not really looking for general feed reader recommendations, but for a reader that does what I've described above.
Question/Problem: I've been cleaning up unwanted programs to free up a bit of space, and tried to remove various SonicStage components. However, when I try to remove them via Add/Remove programs, I get a dialogue saying that An installation support file could not be found, and the remove fails. The components I'm trying to remove are:
SonicStage Mastering Studio 1.4 SonicStage Mastering Studio Audio Filter SonicStage Mastering Studio Audio Filter Custom Preset SonicStage Mastering Studio Plugins
Operating System and VERSION: Windows XP Pro, SP3
Web Browser and VERSION: Firefox 3.0.1
Your level of experience: Intermediate
Duration of problem: First noticed today.
Any steps you've taken to troubleshoot? I tried removing via CCleaner instead, but this gave the same result. Googling has turned up a few suggestions to reinstall and then deinstall the program, but I don't have the discs to reinstall it. I've also found some suggestions it is related to an issue with InstallShield, but I'm pretty much stuck on what to do next.
Added bonus question: In my further quest to reduce program demands on my system, I've been conidering deinstalling Adobe Reader and going with Foxit instead. Opinions on the wisdom of this move would be welcomed!

ImageReady can be found in CS2, which Adobe is offering free downloads to anyone that previously owned a copy. There's more info and a download link here:…
Did you ever find a program, I am in the same boat at the moment, although I have managed to intercept the MCL data stream and trying to code for this.
